Thanks for the review. I am buying ALL THE THINGS because these gnats are driving us slowly mad. I have tried rocks covering soil, Neem oil, Venus Flytrap, Vinegar solution and have just purchased sticky traps, diatomaceous earth, and those pellets. About to get this Katchy too before my wife throws out all my plants out of annoyance. My next step is getting one of those carnivorous frogs that grow to the size of a dinner plate. These gnats are the scourge of our lives right now.

I identify with your post. I've tried EVERYTHING to get rid of fungus gnats, but still they seem flourish. Peroxide rinses, mosquito bits, diatomaceous earth, sand, sticky traps, cinnamon, changing out soil.....nothing has eradicated them. Most frustrating is that they will seem to lessen, then return. This was a wonderful review----for this specific product and as a review judged by itself.

I have two Katchy units that I've been running continually since 2020. The only thing, I wish maintenance were easier. Replacing the sticky circles is fine/easy, and you can even get inexpensive (and almost identical) off-brand sticky circles that fit/work perfectly, but after a few years of cycling seasons, humidity, and inevitable dust in the air, a lot of this gets stuck on the inside of the unit. I'm sure eventually this will cause the fan to fail, but for now, I just do my best with an electric blower to blow out what I can.

Hi Tikki! At first glance, I thought you'd misspelled Kratky. LOL! Last summer, I bought a similar contraption for mosquitoes. It worked pretty until you stop to consider the ratio of mosquitoes to the size of the device.🤪 I'm still convinced moving is the only option. Thanks! Hope you're staying warm!

@JudyG534 жыл бұрын
I just researched Venus Flytrap and learned that most gnats escape. Then there was Butterwort. Now it has sticky leaves and works great but looking at a plant with a bunch of dead gnats stuck to it is more gross than my yellow sticky pads. Might have to get a Katchy. lol

A couple of notes: I haven't tried the Katchy trap yet, since the current price on Az is $80-$90. I've had success with the yellow glue boards, but only temporarily. I have NO plants in the house, BTW. I've also seen other traps listed, with a UV light and a high-voltage electronic "zapper." These have not worked. I think, this is because the gnats are much smaller than the distance between the two electrified grids (positive and negative) to avoid arcing. These traps will catch mosquitos just fine, but gnats just sail through and out again. (I've confirmed that by experiment). So, the Katchy trap may be at least a partial solution, but at the $80 it's a hefty investment. Some Amazon products are returnable - if they are, it'll say so next to the price. Otherwise not. The really frustrating thing about these gnats is that even after apparently removing them all - none flying or lying around - they return after varying periods, usually several weeks. They are a really frustrating pest.

I just bought this device via the link but mine does not have the auto setting but instead has a low or high setting. So, it will be a manual on/off, but no big deal. Just a head's up to others who order. You may get a different model/style than you expect.

In the midst of my gnat battle, I watched this review. I've been diligent in my gnat triage; basically I did everything anyone on KZbin suggested and I gotta say, a multi-pronged approach seems to have done the trick (repotting, peroxide 1:4 drench, mosquito bits, sand topping, cinnamon, drying out for 2 weeks, bottom watering. It was a huge task, made harder by doing it in a small NYC apt. I bought the Katchy to catch the last few gnat survivors that were still flying around and it seems to have worked---I had about 20 gnats after one night of using Katchy and no more since. I haven't seen anything unwanted in the topsoil of my potted plants. I continue to put a few sticky traps around just to see if any gnats reappear-so far not one. Time will tell. But I wanted to thank you for your review.

Cheap is vinegar in water with a dash of dish soap. Foam up the dish soap by whipping it or spraying it with water. Leave on the counter. Gnats are attracted & drown. Found a taller glass or pitcher works great. Plus it is fun to see all the gnats on the bottom over time.

This worked well for me with fruit flies. Bought some apple cider vinegar, poured a little into a small glass jar, poured a few drops of liquid dish shop, left it on the kitchen counter. Within three days, I had about 25 fruit flies in the jars (I set two of them out), and no more flying around.

@TikkiOOO4 жыл бұрын
Maybe put the katchy not too close to the fan...the bugs are really attracted to the blue UV light, so they will go to it and then get sucked in. I really wish it was a bit cheaper, I would have bought more than one to put in different locations, but one was all I wanted to pay for, and it is working nicely. Great to the point review. I’m plagued with mosquitos inside…and most likely had been in years past but had mistaken my bites for flea bites. Since I get an allergic reaction from bites, and especially mosquito bites, this has been a huge problem, not to mention the diseases they carry. I would like to purchase this Katchy unit, but after all my goggle searches for real reviews for that purpose, I’ve come away crossed eyed and without a item that reviewers were 100% or close to that kind of success for a device that traps mosquitoes indoors. I checked reviews for the expensive Dynatrap, and interestingly, many said it was not good at trapping mosquitoes. At $40, I may try the Katchy. I have had loads of experience with fungus gnats this past year when I repotted a plant. The gnats or gnat larvae must have been in the store bought soil I used. This didn’t become evident till there was a population explosion. I purchased mosquito bits and yellow sticky flowers that I stuck in the culprit pot and a few more plant pots. I changed the yellow sticky (sticky on both sides) flowers each time I watered the plants, for an entire year. They are not inexpensive, and bought many packages. I could have purchased 2-3 Katchy units with what I spent on the yellow sticky flowers. In the end, although decreased, I was not able to rid the gnat population, and ended up taking the plant outside. What I absolutely dislike, is if something I purchase does not work, that it will become just another Amazon landfill item. So, fingers 🤞🏼 as I take the plunge and purchase this item!

Great info. I live in Florida and always have at least a gnat or two in the house and until yesterday, never had so much as a house plant. My Aero Garden just arrived yesterday and now I'm quite concerned that the gnat issue is going to become a real issue. I have to say having just one or two has been frustrating enough especially since they try to fly into my mouth and always around my face. I suppose they have always come in with the fruit. I always have a lot of fruit in the house. I don't like the price of the katchy but I'm going to purchase it anyway as I cannot live with bugs. Thanks as always. Let us know your continued experience with the Katchy.

Could go on and on. One female is on the same area for 3 years, I can recognize her since her tail is bent. How do I know it is female? Well she has a healthy sexual appetite, with a larger male. And I find eggs, soft smaller pebbles like around the oregano pot. I've seen one small lizard eat dozens of fire ants. Too bad I could not record. Higher grass, some empty vases for habitat, pile of leaves around the edges. The lizards actually sleep on top of my okra or eggplant leaves. Of course the kitty kat should be indoors
