Love Ernie. He knows exactly what to say or ask to rein Lucy in. He is very supportive of her, but not afraid to point out the obvious. That is a best friend. And the fact he is going to assist Kate, shows his support to both and the love they have for each other. It definitely adds to the storyline.

Now, I know we all know that K and L are meant for each other, ok? But come on guys. Did you see that eye roll Lucy pulled when Kate first showed in the bullpen? I agree that Kate is completely transparent with her body language. I DON'T think Lucy is. And if I was Kate and saw that expression, I'd be starting to think Lucy hated me. Lucy gave her a glimmer of hope in the interrogation, but it was by no means a slam dunk. Lucky for Lucy that Kate is still trying! There. I said my unpopular piece.
