I was on sick leave for three short months to care for my 65 year old mum from August to November last year when she passed away after she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. This interview made me cry so much, through absolute admiration and sympathy for Kate and her beautiful, caring children. You are such a selfless person Kate. I send my greatest sympathies to you and your family. You are an absolute inspiration and woman of extreme courage. I'm a consultant in Emergency Medicine with children of the same age as yours. My mental heath has been damaged beyond belief from the covid years on top of all other tragedies that I see and have seen over 30 years in the job. You give me inspiration to be stronger, to pick up and carry on as a middle aged mum with so many stresses in a failing NHS. Thank you for being such an amazing role model. I'm so very sorry for your loss but I'm so relieved that Derek is now in peace. God bless you and your children. ❤. You demonstrate the best of humanity. ❤

I lost my husband suddenly 18 weeks ago he died in front of while I tried to resuscitate him. Yes you can be strong and I went back to work as a nurse but I'm still grieving and I can see myself in Kate. She is putting on a brave face just like I still am she has to do what she thinks is right for her. You shouldn't judge until you have lived it

I'm 33, I work full time and help care for a terminally ill sister and disabled dad, as my aging mother can't do it alone. Its hard - I see all my friends getting married, buying homes, getting promotions and I'm stuck, life on hold. But it's an extreme honour to help my family despite how hard it gets. Well done Kate!

I think that Kate is a very strong woman. Her children Darcey and Billy have been so supportive of their parents. I was shocked to see Darcey carrying her Dad's coffin it was very brave of her. How the family have got through this have thoroughly humbled me. Kate, Darcey and Billy have now got to start building their lives now. I really admire Kate, Darcey and Billy bless them all. Kate my Mum died in 2020 April 26th from Medical Negligence. I took on caring for my Mum for 13 years and i had many fights with Social Services and the Hospital admin. My husband had covid 3 times each time on ICU with complications and now long covid admitted 9 times this past 4 months struggling to breath heart issues diabetes was fit and healthy previously, not been well enough to work since. I think the fascination is that it all started with covid and as Kate is In the public eye and popular. Rip 🙏 to all who we lost to covid and since due to complications.

I have sympathy for anyone who has lost their husband, my dad lost his wife my mother very young. It is so very painful, but at the same time, it is a private time. But something that feels so uncomfortable is this over sharing with everyone about Derek. I mean we will never really know the truth on why he passed away, but as long as the whole country believes this was due to long covid, then a sucession of books, documentarys and god knows what else can help paddle this covid narrative. Yes its really sad, but there is no denying she is and will continue to make money off all this oversharing, something just doesnt pass the sniff test, I did hear "problems with addiction" but of course we will never ever really know. This mans very front and centre covid diagnosis did a great job supporting and helping the government paddle there lockdown justifications and keep this scare tactic going. I hope they all find peace and try and deal with this loss privately as a family I think his dignity must be respected at some point.
