Politicians are far more corrupt on a larger scale, but it's all above board. They get the Ben Roberts Smiths to do the dirty work, and promptly wash their hands of them, but they were the ones who sign off on war. And those politicians then get paid very handsomely in their post political careers. Whatever you do, don't call it a post-dated bribe.

Knowing something about police in the 80' i can say that Rogerson wasnt the only really bent cop in NSW or VICTORIA. He was hopeless at keeping it quiet. The really bad ones kept quieter than Rogerson.

He's undoubtedly a psychopath. And while that helped him, it also blinded him to how normal people would view his actions and the consequences of it.

Roger was the Patsy of police corruption.far worse police in much higher positions escape detection and corruption is still well entrenched in all police forces in this country .the proof is the streets are awash with drugs and that is all the proof you need

He was a sociopath. And like all sociopaths they are superficially charming but cross them and you see their true colours. With the level of corruption he was exposed for, you would think he would keep a low profile but instead he seemed to like being in the public spotlight telling his stories. It was his way of manipulating people which is another core trait of a sociopath. This is something that you see with 'celebrity criminals'.
@wendyfay16

It was the narcist that made him charming ... but the psychopath also made him extremely dangerous when crossed .... He was like a snake that you could chop in half and he'd just grow another head... but psychopath is just as good. People with these personality traits also end up in politics and CEOs of corporate businesses. Just look around at some of our political leaders over the years.

It's interesting that Rogerson lived as long as he did. He obviously had no respect for human life yet nobody gave him the same treatment as he dished out. A very crooked cop and criminal.

I lived in Sydney in 1952 and the police were hated and feared by the people. People beaten up for nothing. I had a dear friend picked up and beaten for being drunk and was teetotal. He was also charged with murder but had a gold star alibi, he was at work😊

I wouldn't be surprised if he had some hidden 'insurance' whereby should he die under suspicious circumstances, there'd be a great number of very concerned people out there with their names already to be painted on several prison cells. He didn't last that long, working on both sides of the fence, without also having a good 'criminal' mind that protected him for all those years. There'll be a lot of old, and possibly a few younger men, breathing great sighs of relief. I still wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a book just waiting to go to the publishers 'if his family isn't well looked after.

I've always been interested to hear what Kate McClymont has had to say when she's been interviewed, especially on Roger Rogerson. She's always been a straight-talking journalist who doesn't need to gild the lily to get a good story because she does her homework well & has deserved the respect she receives. From the numerous interviews & telemovies I've seen with Roger Rogerson, and the articles I've read about him, I think that he was just a narcissistic psychopath who, had he not chosen the police force for his career, he'd have been just as successful in the corporate world or politics. It did him proud to end up where he finally did, a hard-core bad guy who caused a great deal of pain to a great many people. He was finally served his just desserts ... by ending his days in a jail cell. I'm sure there'll be a lot of relieved people out there with his passing, both crooked cops who were hoping that he'd take his secrets to the grave, along with those who he's threatened over the years and always slept with one eye half open. Kate McClymont has followed, or dogged Roger Rogerson for years and I expect that she'll sleep just a tad more easily with him out of the way. has always been a journalist to be respected.

A psychological profile of Rogerson found that money wasn’t his main motivation because he could have made a lot more money from corruption. His motivation was power, he fed off the fear he inspired in criminals and respect and adulation he received from his colleagues. His later crimes however were definitely money-motivated as he was flat broke.

Both times I was at her majesties, it was with RR. In 2005 he was in Kirrkonel, I was the librarian, he seemed always calm , a bit up himself. Second time he did a job at a storage site I used 3 units away and at one time we used the units that he did the job in. Very strange because the place had cctv on every corner, there were no blind spots and coded entry and exit.In 2018 he was at Long Bay hospital unit.

He either wasn't as smart as he let on, possibly losing his marbles in old age, or quite possibly he didn't commit the act of murder and it was the other cop. Both blamed each other but nonetheless both engaged in the terribly botched disposal of the body. There were cameras at the boat ramp they used too.

Regarding Lanfranchi. A gun was found, or presented as evidence. But it was some ancient relic with a busted firing pin. A bit hard to believe a notorious drug dealer and standover man would pull a gun that's not working.

I take issue with the term "noble cause corruption" A "cause" implicitly references an effect... or outcome. What might be considered noble is the effect or outcome, but that in itself is a moot point. The real corruption resides in the pretext that the *ends* justifies the *means.* Its the baseline predicate of every totalitarian regime.

And how? By being a stronger, reliant braver man? No. By sneaking, snitching, lying on the outside, giving working girls to rookie cops for a couple of nights to nail them in, taxing other working girls... yeah gee, a senior cop who takes money from a wg. Star.
