IMO, microbiome research is so new and there is so much that “we” don’t know yet. What happened in food production is that so many companies are using the exact same bacteria in products. What we need to look at is what helps our skin proliferate our own good bacteria and keep balanced. For example, in food, this would be high quality fiber; however, selling fiber is not sexy and does not command the desired price points. What happens is that if we consume these bacteria fortified foods then we get the same strains over and over again. What we know is that variety is important in microbiome health and there is scant research on what happens when we consume the same lab produced bacteria for prolonged periods. The fear is this in itself may cause an imbalance. Bacteria for manufacturing (skincare or food) are chosen in part because of how they stand up to processing and on the shelf. Important point, but not proven to be the most beneficial necessarily. Sauerkraut and kimchi are wild fermented foods, meaning that the bacteria is not produced in a lab but naturally occurs through the fermentation process. I wonder if there could be such a thing for skin, meaning a product that have varied yet still beneficial bacteria. From what I know the variety is key. That said, maybe scientists will discover that acneic skin or rosacea skin is lacking something in particular and look to correct specific imbalances. Fascinating to me.

I love Kate Somerville products but my favorite is the Eradikate sulphur treatment. It’s the only thing that stops the hormonal cystic acne I get before my period. Kate is a godsend. I just wish her products were slightly more affordable so I could regularly use a lot more of them.

On a side note: a fine spray is not enough for your face. As I have skincancer (in remission) the amount is a full teaspoon and of course, re-apply during the day. I have a spray (Coola and Lancaster) but that's just if I shortly go outside to walk to the car/train. 😘

Well I LOVE the sun, it helps tremendously with my depression. I use high spf obviously but sorry ladies, I'm not going to avoid the beaches in my city completely! Is there something I can do to help my skin deal with that? Moisture heavily I guess?

KTenpas I have psoriasis and I would recommend he sees a derm. Mine was severe but with the right treatment from a derm it’s down to almost nothing.
