let katelyn be a freshman and dont put too much expectations for yourself, just enjoy and celebrate the fact that she is now healthy and running 4:14 in her second collegiate 1500 race and stop comparing her to upperclassmen who are healthy and are way experienced kt literally had a knee surgery last year and only started racing less than 3 months ago, missed a lot of training last year and has just slowly putting up mileage this year .. despite all that, katelyn's already putting out great times .. shes been the fastest freshman this season in 1500m and 5000m .. was also the fastest freshman in cross country championships at top24 (she was the only freshman in the top 45) i hope you know that her peers, and competitions from hs who are also in college now are running 4:20s and 16:00s while katelyn runs 15:40s and 4:14s (out of injury) ...

@@buddylight1599 She has quite a few records too and does both middle and long distance like Tuohy, Kateln Hart, Zofia Dudek, Taylor Ewert, who finished last than a half second behind Tuohy at the NXN, and then did the Footlocker nationals right afterwards for another top ten, and she race walks, and others from the class o 2020, this year so far Dudek, was the fastest, and on a roll, insisting in the top 5 o all her distance races, and setting a record at the AAU, in December. And winning the PAC 12 freshman of the year award. until she got injured, at the ncaa championship, with a foot injury, she needed crutches after that race. Katelyn Hart did not finish that race, she has it hard because Michigan lockdowns really prevented their state from doing almost anything. I love Tuohy like everyone, and in high school in the races she competed in she was one of he best o all time, if not the best, but these other girls are not chopped liver, they are also great in their own rights, and until Tuohy fully recovers and proves otherwise when both are healthy, equally as good. In college it’s a whole new ball game, it’s very difficult for any runner to lead from wire to wire like high school, you have to use strategy, draft, careful planning and moving in a crowd, and you must have a kick at the end, I see Tuohy developing those skills each time she races, she only lacks the finishing kick in the shorter races, which I think is why she enter them to improve that skill and see if she can beat her high school records in those, and she has, she can still pull to the front with ease, and keep a steady pace with long strides, the problem is in college, the other girls don’t mind, because they are just as fast or faster, but have more experience in racing in a group or crowd, and a much better kick, so her lead usually evaporates, in the lat 200 meters. Bu she is getting better, and she is great in distance, next year, I think she will be way more competitive in the shorter races too, by a lot, as will the other class of 2020, if they are healthy, along with the class of 2021, and there are some stars there too.

@@katelyntuohyfans Thanks, because of the lockdowns, I only heard of the one race in fall with tuohy and starliper, both did not do so well, Dudek first race was in December when she was still 18 setting a record of 16:16 at the AAU invitational, then she did top three I believe at three invitationals, and pac 12, and won the pac 12 freshman cross country of the year award, I was hoping to see a close race between Tuohy, Hart, Starliper, and Dudek, at the NCAA championship, but Starliper was still injured, Ewert I believe is training for race walking for the olympics, Hart did not finish he race, bu did start, not sure why, watching it I could see Dudek right there a little behind Tuohy, until about 2 or 3k in, and then she disappeared, Tuohy was amazing and the fastest freshman. Later Dudek was on crutches, due to a foot injury, but she did finish 155 or so, I am not sure that was a good idea for her to finish. It was her first race so far out of the top 3 or 4 in about 2 years. I like the class of 2019, so I always look to see if any of them are racing, so I can see a rematch between Dudek and Starliper, and a healthy Dudek take on a Heathy Tuohy, and a rematch between Ewert and Tuohy, those races were at the nxn and footlocker, and were won by about a second. And of course Hart who is always very competitive, but just barely loses in big races, by going out too fast at the start. Maybe next year, they will all be healthy, and the government will stop all of these overreacting lockdowns on these healthy athletes, who have almost 100% recovery rate, even if they get sick. This was actually a very good race for Katelyn Tuohy. I was impressed with her "come back" following her problems. Remember, she is still young and she is NEVER going to be a top 1500m runner. She simply isn't fast enough. As long as she keeps improving strength/stamina, she will become an excellent/top 10,000m runner. Internationally speaking, she isn't in the top 80 even for the event people say is her best distance, 5000m. Why? Because she isn't fast enough. Plus 5k is NOT her best distance. Her body frame, stride length, running style, is made for a 10k runner. (I'm just talking Track. Not Road nor Cross Country, where she could also shine) Disregard completely the INDOOR 5k races. They are very misleading as very few international runners bother to run indoors. Plus, with middle distance indoors, you either can handle the banked boards or you can't. KT's small frame is ideal for indoors. So, over the next 5-8 years, fingers crossed, she will develop progressively into a fantastic international 10k Track runner, unless "Life" gets in the way. Cheers. Olympics 2028???? 10k Gold???

Of course it takes a whole package of excellent natural talent mixed with good coaching and fine training to develop their potential. Sadly, many people also put too much pressure on them. Particularly when the public often have no understanding of how long it can take a middle/long distance runner to mature. Normally many years. Some idiots were claiming that Katelyn would medal at the 2021 or 2024 Olympics. Anyone with an international understanding of what is required can easily see that would never happen. I wish her good luck and simply hope she keeps improving. Cheers.

@NOTREALLY HANKAARON I mean no disrespect by this, but almost none of those things you said would help her. Maffetone is not effective in any pro runner’s training regimen. It works for regular people and triathletes decently because the hobbyists don’t need that much speed and the triathletes get enough muscular stimulation from biking. If you look at the training of any world class long distance runner, they will do about two hard sessions per week, a long run, and easy runs for the other 4 days. Additionally, a low carb diet is a fad for people who want to lose weight without working out. It can potentially be effective for ultras, but carbohydrates are the most effective fuel for anything up to 50k really. This is also evidenced by many pro runners releasing details of a well balanced diet consisting of all necessary nutrients. While shortening a stride is not necessarily important for increasing speed, I understand what you mean. Tuohy does seem to overstride a bit, but having a long stride is not necessarily bad. Katelyn Tuohy could actually have the same stride length without overstriding. Her back kick is excellent though, so I don’t think any change is needed there. I agree she could make some changes to improve herself as a runner and to reduce injury likelihood, but I don’t think “a lot” of changing is needed. I know why you have stated all of the hyped training/nutrition techniques, but don’t believe everything you hear on social media. Look into stuff first and you will find that a lot of the media buzz given to stuff like Maffetone training and a Keto diet is based on inconclusive science and has been disproven by the results of far more effective techniques. The NN running team is very open about how they train and many pros release details about their nutrition. I can guarantee you will not find a single world champion track/road/XC runner who uses these hyped techniques.

@NOTREALLY HANKAARON please, name a real world class 10,000m runner who uses MAF and Keto. They don’t do this stuff because it doesn’t work
@benanastasoff89803 жыл бұрын
@NOTREALLY HANKAARON Why are you so convinced that Maffetone and low carb diets work? There is only evidence to suggest the opposite. MAF works fine for entry level runners, but not for top end athletes like Katelyn Tuohy
@sanderslongdrive3 жыл бұрын
All top athletes concentrate on competing against themselves. It really is that simple. One thing I learned a lifetime ago, is to do reps. on grass in quality trainers. It is something largely ignored and as a result all manner of injuries ensue. And these days few athletes study, plan, and take a grip on their careers. Instead choosing to dwell on their coaches every word - coaches usually good intentioned but often far too inexperienced and insufficiently read.

all the big schools with much better running programs offering katelyn tuohy a full ride and she picks..... nc state? WHY?

Nc state is great distance program..... they just finished second in the country at cross-country. And have a good chance to win next year. Also their distance runners in track are awesome. Ellie henes is the second best distance runner in the country... they probably had the most depth of 5K runners in the country as well. Anyway a bunch of her good friends that she ran against in high school are there and more on the way so it was basically teammates, coach, warm weather, Great facilities. And closer to home than other schools

@@AthletesJournal or....you know...make your comment more clear. But to your point you vaguely made in your own cryptic way, the bigger risks of night runs would include running near roadways in the dark, and rolling and ankle/falls on dark uneven terrain. These are all still very much controlled for on the track. If the night ambient temperature drops too quickly, their warm-up may be insufficient to prevent some injuries which also was not a problem with this race. They could see each other just fine, likely better than when the sun is riding low near sunset. A day time run on your neighborhood sidewalk is way more risky than this run.

@Divisiononebasketball3 жыл бұрын
@@katelyntuohyfans NC State perennially is not a powerhouse in track and field or cross country. They had success this past season in cross country. Traditionally, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Arkansas, BYU, NAU, University of Colorado are the best teams year in and year out in track and cross country and indoor. BYU, Colorado, NAU always lead the way in distance running specifically. That’s attributed to coaching but specifically high altitude training. NC State is not in the conversation of top programs. Once again that’s why I was surprised Tuohy wouldn’t have chosen a “traditional powerhouse” to attend.

@@Divisiononebasketball what you're saying really isn't accurate! NC State is a power house in distance running. They have two runner-up finishes in the last 20 years in cross-country , and a third not too far before that. And they've won the ACC almost every year over the last decade . They're probably about the 7th or 8th best cross-country team in the country over the last decade. And they've only been getting better recently. Coach hennes is a great coach being an ex top Runner herself. And right now they probably have the best depth of distance runners in the country. Basically it checked all the right boxes. A warm-weather school. Good in math and engineering. Strong distance program. A bunch of Runners she knew well from high school. A great coach. Basically she didn't seem to want to go west coast, probably didn't really gel with the southern schools. And didn't want to freeze her ass off. Anyway it turned out to be a great choice as they have an awesome team. And two of their distance Runners just qualify for the Olympic trials so it's pretty big time.
