I don't think anywhere near 1% of the world population can break five minutes because the running community is pretty small relative to the whole population. I mean come on. If that were true, there'd be 70 million people in the world who can do it.

Really it's kind of crazy how she has to decide when to go full beast mode. Most people at the High School level just always try to get their best time. Her best times are some of the best ever. Most of them are. So I can understand how only every now and then she goes full out for another record. We shouldn't expect Katelyn to set a new PR or in her case a Girls High School record every darn race. I think that's also why she likes relays. They give her a chance to possibly run someone down for a team win. Probably way more fun then going 90% and still winning by a ton. Regardless she certainly is one great runner.
@rickiovine21705 жыл бұрын
Gary Raymond : As a retired coach who remembers the great Mary Decker, I hold back judgement until I see a great athlete fail. When they get beat, which they all inevitably do. They have to be tested. Katelyn is not being tested against anything but herself, and the clock. Look at Mary Cain. She was as fast as Katelyn in high school, but has not made it at the world class level. She never learned to ‘race’ in high school. You have to ‘race’ with the European women. They will jostle you. They will box you in. They will pick up the pace; slow down the pace; force you to the front and then blow by you in the final straight.
@France21075 жыл бұрын
@@rickiovine2170 I'm a huge fan of track and field events at all levels and I've never seen the type of strategy racing that is common on the international level present at the high school level. So it would be hard for her to gain that kind of experience at this point. Plenty of time for her to pick up that experience in college and she will either adapt or not. It will be very exciting to watch. Another note is that even in international level or national college level racing, few runners have the capacity to maintain an all out pace over the entire length of a distance race like Katelyn does. So it will be very interesting to see what happens.
@rickiovine21705 жыл бұрын
France2107 : The issue with our American girl middle distance runners is that very few at Katelyn’s age and skill are successful beyond high school at an expected progression. When Jennie Simpson took the bronze in the 2016 Olympics at 1500 meters that was the first medal of any kind for an American woman. Ever. That is very sad when you think of how many girls run track in the US, and how poorly it compares to USA medals in all other events. If it is beyond 800 meters our women have failed miserably on the track. It is changing, but in every case it is a women who has peaked years after college. This is because they learned how to race before their skills diminished. There is a very small window of opportunity for Olympic hopefuls. For 1500, 3,000 SC, and 5,000 runners you must peak at the right time, and avoid injuries. They dropped the qualifying standards for the 2020 Olympics, but have added your placing in the world rankings to the equation. Katelyn should hit that qualifying standard on 2020. This would put her as one of the top Americans in the rankings. She then gets invited to the trials. I wonder if her coaches are targeting 2020?
@ecostarr4 жыл бұрын
She's at her best when she anchors though. One of her team's losses in the 800-meter relay was when they had her start the race rather than finish it. She gave them an incredible lead, but her teammates just weren't able to hold onto it.

Look at Katelyn Tuohy's long hairs behind her. When she runs, her long hairs only up and down, rarely swinging left or right or all over the place like the other girl runners. This shows that her running gesture does not waste a lot unnecessary left and right off the center, that ergonomic straightforward all in-line running technique is just superb! Her dropping-down long hairs are blocked by her back and do not cause any Resistance coefficient to affect her running. She runs so fluid and smooth. Most of the female runners overlooked one important factor, their whole bodies from the head down, their shoulders, the piston to-and-fro pumping, their whole upper bodies are not in a straightforward line, they waste a lot dashing forward power in their upper bodies' random swinging, their whole bodies are not in sync with their forward dashing position, while K. T.'s dashing forward is in a straight forward line, her whole body is in sync with her running forward dashing, no extra energy waste on unnecessary and incorrect body positions. Her simple all in straight forward line, not only speed her up but also save a lot of energy unlike others who waste a lot speed and energy due to unnecessary body swinging. That's why she could run so fast and so long. Look at all those runners behind her, almost everybody's long hairs are all over the place.

She popped a 4:24 1500m (almost 1 Mile run), and if she stayed on pace or better with a strong kick she is looking at a 4:36 to 4:37 1600m run. The fastest I ever ran the 1600m in High School (my last race of my senior year - 81) was 4:43 (and I missed the cutoff of 4:40 to qualify for State). Okay, I feel really inept. But give her credit; her form the whole way is flawless and she goes out at 3/4 kick and stays with it the whole way. Most people start out at 3/4 kick to get a place in the pack and then dial back a little to stay on pace. Not her, she puts maximum distance from the pack and just runs them down. I saw another video of her in the 5K and she lapped most other runners 3 times over on the track. She will be qualifying for the Olympics next spring.

I feel like you should be able to do basic math if you wanna be a track announcer, I was kinda doubting them when they called the 500m point 600m

the problem with runners going out all hard like that is that they will burnout and not finish. Katelyn fucking kills everybody and goes all out to the finish

Not her best performance, hoping to see her new balance performance though. She went slower because of nationals coming up
@jmorrin325 жыл бұрын
She probably went slower because she just ran a 3k when you go for a record usually that is all you do.
@keithtinkler40735 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was just a hard practice run for her; Her 3K was way slower than her best time too.
