Runs strategically like Steve Prefontaine did. Sets her lap times ahead of the race and knows what she is capable of running. If she is "allowed" to run her own race, she will be dominating once she is on the world stage. Will be interesting to see how she fares once she is racing against the worlds best. No one in high school is a real challenge for her.
@Horkslair6 жыл бұрын
Watch Steve Prefontaine in the 1972 Olympics. In that race, he got boxed in and WAS NOT ALLOWED to run the race as he had planned. In a field of relative equals, it will be interesting to see how strategically Katelyn runs when she is not instantly way out in front and able to run pretty much any speed she chooses.
@Jimmy911ism6 жыл бұрын
Maynard Runkle he answered you. If you watch the start, you'll notice she didn't take off and that the tall girl who briefly led didn't shift in, allowing Katelyn to pass her. If she competes at a better level then she won't be able to run like that. She'll get boxed in as four or five girls try to lead and she's stuck inside. But she'll probably be aware of that and adjust. I doubt it'll be an issue.

It's always fun to hear the great New York schools names come up. I grew up and ran for Watertown, NY back in the 60's. I'm remembering not so long ago Nicole Blood, Caitlyn Lane, Lindsey Ferguson, and Hannah Davidson from Saratoga. Blood - Oregon, Lane - Penn State, Ferguson - Notre Dame, Davidson - Providence. Another Rockland County great, not too far from Katelyn Tuohy was Shelby Greaney - also Providence. I live in California now and have coached here. We have a star coming up too. She starts her senior year this fall. She's only run for two years instead of three and is learning as fast as she can. Running for Malibu High Claudia Lane has won two FootLockers so far, broken most of the course records, Mt SAC, State Meet at Fresno, Southern Section at Riverside, etc. 5K typical courses - 15:41 so far. I have all my fingers crossed, hoping she signs with the best coaching staff we have in the PAC-12. Most people aren't even aware of the summer changes. Oregon's Andy and Maurica Powell are now at U Washington (Oregon's Hayward Field is shut down until 2021 for the World T & F Championships remodel). In addition a couple of assistant coaches have signed on, one being Matt Centrowitz - 1500 Gold Medal at Rio, and a 3:50 Mile. I would give anything to see Miss Lane of Malibu pair up with the brand new Washington Huskies coaching superstaff.
