I just came from a Teacher job fair and wish I had watched this before going. I made all the mistakes you mention. I've been working as an interim teacher for 8 years and I was confused about their questions, I kept thinking to myself, "Why would they ask me something everyone who works in schools know". Now I know, they wanted to see if I knew. Instead of saying I differentiate instruction. I teach to the middle and then differentiate the students on the other sides of the middle.

Thanks so much for this video! You are the best coach and tutor I have ever heard from. Kindly help me answer these questions: (1)From your point of view, how important is technology in education? What technology-related skills would you intergrate in your classroom? Thanks so much 🙏 ( 2)Describe the classroom condition that best facilitate student learning and strategies you would use to assure maximum learning for all students.
@KathleenJasperEdD Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Here are my responses: 1. Tech is very important but no amount of tech is as important as an effective teacher. However, tech used to engage learners is very helpful. All tech should be used according to the academic standards and protocols set out by the district. 2. The main thing I would focus on for this is practiced procedures and routines. Learning can only take place when students understand the expectations and practice how to execute on those expectations. This is the number one way to maximize success for all students. For more information on that, check out my how to start the school year off with success video on this channel. Good luck!

Another thing that is important is that content is just as important as strategies. Often good strategies are used with mediocre or boring material. I stress my interesting content when I interview. It is important to have a website with some materials to email before your interview. And yes, procedures and routines are important. Often especially for ELA, the standards are broad so you can teach what you want. Standards unfortunately have really narrowed the curriculum. I think there are differentiation techniques which work for all students, especially showing sample assignments, bullet pointed previews and a view preview as well as practice tests.

thank you. i finished my interview. everything you mentioned was asked except one question through me for a loop - the assistant principal asked "Do you know what the 5 e's are?"
@KathleenJasperEdD9 ай бұрын
Congratulations on completing your interview! It's great to hear that you were well-prepared for most of the questions. Regarding the question about the 5 E's, it seems like a reference to a common framework used in science education, particularly for inquiry-based learning. The 5 E's typically stand for: Engage: This involves piquing students' interest and activating their prior knowledge about a topic. Explore: Students actively explore the concept or phenomenon through hands-on activities, experiments, or investigations. Explain: Students are encouraged to explain their understanding of the concept based on their exploration and observations. Elaborate: This stage allows students to deepen their understanding by applying concepts to new situations, extending their knowledge, and making connections. Evaluate: Assessment of students' understanding and abilities to apply what they have learned. This could be in the form of quizzes, projects, discussions, etc. This framework is widely used in science education but can also be adapted to other subject areas and instructional contexts. ~Yiana Team Member at Kathleen Jasper LLC

I would lean into the fact that you’re bilingual. That is a huge asset. Also, I would do research on ESL/ESOL instruction, specifically in reading. Every principal wants to help their ELLs pass their state tests. 😊

My situation is very unique, I am landed immigrant in Canada and certified teacher with good standing on the basis of my education and teaching experience back home but never got job in school, rather got job in administrative capacity for long 9 years , now my passion for teaching is telling me to try again in school, how to go for it now
@KathleenJasperEdD Жыл бұрын
Your situation is indeed unique, but it's great to hear that your passion for teaching is leading you to explore opportunities in schools once again. To make a successful transition from an administrative role to a teaching position, consider the following steps: Update Your Skills and Knowledge: Take some time to refresh your teaching skills and knowledge about the Canadian education system. Attend workshops, seminars, or online courses that focus on teaching methodologies, curriculum updates, and classroom management strategies. Obtain Necessary Certifications: Research the specific requirements for becoming a certified teacher in Canada. You might need to obtain additional certifications or qualifications to meet the standards set by the provincial education authorities. Network with Educators: Reach out to teachers, principals, and other educators in your area. Attend local educational events and join professional teaching associations to connect with people in the education field. Update Your Resume and Cover Letter: Tailor your resume and cover letter to emphasize your teaching skills and experiences, both from your home country and your administrative role. Highlight transferable skills, such as leadership, communication, and organizational abilities. Prepare for Interviews: Anticipate questions that may arise during interviews and practice your responses. Emphasize your passion for teaching, your dedication to students' growth, and your ability to adapt to new environments. Remember, transitioning from an administrative role to a teaching position may require patience and determination. Stay proactive, keep improving your skills, and demonstrate your genuine passion for teaching to increase your chances of successfully securing a teaching job in Canada. Good luck! ~Yiana Team Member at Kathleen Jasper LLC

How do we get the interview! I’ve been subbing on campus and did my in class observation hours as well. When I completed the hours I gifted the principals a succulent with a hand written note as a way for them to remember me during this time of year. I sent a follow up reminder email as my principal asked me to and let them know my application was in the system so it may be accessible to their convenience. Idk what else would help me get an interview.
@KathleenJasperEdD8 ай бұрын
They probably won’t start interviewing until the end of the year. The principal is probably slammed with end-of-the-year evaluations, testing, and other stuff. I would reach back out as soon as summer starts. That’s when hiring amps up. Remember, you’re thinking about your interview all the time. The principal is not. He or she has a million other things happening. Don’t take it personally. Just reach out at the end of the year.

How can I answer if my last AP did a bad evaluation in my 1st year in my provisional license.
@KathleenJasperEdD Жыл бұрын
Addressing a negative evaluation from your last Annual Performance (AP) review during your first year on a provisional license can be challenging but important for your professional growth. Here's a general approach to crafting your response: Acknowledge the Feedback: Start by acknowledging that you received feedback that wasn't as positive as you had hoped. Express Willingness to Improve: Emphasize your willingness to learn from the feedback and improve your performance. Describe Action Steps: Briefly outline the specific actions you took to address the issues raised in the evaluation. Reflect on Progress: Discuss how these actions led to improvements over time. Mention any accomplishments, milestones, or positive changes that resulted from your efforts. Highlight Learning: Mention the key lessons you learned from this experience and how it shaped your approach to your work and professional development. Commitment to Growth: Conclude by reiterating your commitment to ongoing growth and improvement. Emphasize that you're dedicated to using feedback to enhance your performance moving forward. Remember to maintain a positive and constructive tone, demonstrating your adaptability and ability to turn challenges into opportunities for improvement. ~Yiana Team Member at Kathleen Jasper LLC

So I had 4 interviews and did not get anything. Can you answer why a print would offer a permanent sub position instead of a teacher contract?
@KathleenJasperEdD Жыл бұрын
Here are a few potential reasons for such a decision: Budget Constraints: Schools often have limited budgets, and hiring a full-time teacher with a contract can come with higher costs due to benefits and other considerations. Offering a permanent substitute position might be a way to save on these expenses. Flexibility: Permanent substitute positions might offer the school more flexibility. Substitutes can cover various classes and grade levels as needed, which can be beneficial when dealing with scheduling challenges or unexpected absences. Trial Period: Schools might choose to hire someone as a permanent substitute to assess their teaching abilities and fit within the school environment before committing to a full teacher contract. Supply of Teachers: Depending on the area and subject, it might be challenging to find qualified teachers to fill open positions. In such cases, a school might opt to offer a permanent substitute position as a way to address staffing needs. Teacher Shortages: In regions facing teacher shortages, schools might need to use creative solutions to ensure classrooms are adequately staffed. Offering a permanent substitute position could be a temporary measure to address this issue. Unique Circumstances: There might be unique circumstances within the school, such as a specific program or curriculum that requires a specialized skill set. A permanent substitute might be better suited to fulfill those needs. It's important to note that the specific reasons can vary widely depending on the school, its policies, the education system of the region, and the context. ~Yiana Team Member at Kathleen Jasper LLC

Unfortunately the fourth point will be the obstacle for me to succeed in any interview in USA. I'm not used with this kind of strategy when I was French teacher in North Africa. I'm talking about Data
@KathleenJasperEdD2 ай бұрын
Hi there. I understand your concern regarding data-driven strategies. It can feel overwhelming when you're not accustomed to this approach, especially when coming from a different educational system. However, data is often used in the U.S. to help guide instruction and improve student outcomes. You might want to explore professional development opportunities that focus on data analysis in education.
