if you want to hear more of their stuff i recommend Yuve Yuve Yu or their cover of Sad but True from metallica. Yuve Yuve Yu is incredibly catchy and i definitely recommend switching the english subtitles on because the song just hits that much harder when you know what they are saying. same goes for wolf totem actually

What's more terrifying than a Mongolian on a horse? A Mongolian on a Harley Davidson!
@veteranhoffman67768 ай бұрын
5:15 the 2 stringed instruments you are discussing are called Morin Khuur (horse head fiddle) and is usually played in a sitting position, the HU have theirs customized to be played while standing. Traditionally the Morin Khuur’s “strings” are made from the tail hairs from the player’s own horse to bind instrument to player. The “Male” (thicker) string has 150 hairs, the “Female” (thinner) string has 130 hairs. It’s said that the Mark of a Master Morin Khuur player is they can mimic a horse’s neigh/whinny and Falcon cries with the instrument.

Mongolian folk combined with rock/metal, using traditional Mongolian instruments along with standard guitar bass and drums, and yes, throat singing. The 2 string being played with a bow is a Morin Khuur or horsehead fiddle. The 3 string being played like a guitar is a Tovshuur. The Tumur Hhuur (jaw harp) and Tsuur (end blown flute) are a couple other instruments used in other songs. They are awesome live too, saw them open for Halestorm a couple years ago. Wolf Totem is one of several songs that they had redone ,with new English lyrics and guest vocalists. Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) joined them on this song's remake. Song of Women was done with Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), check that out. They have also covered Metallica's Sad But True, in Mongolian.

"The 3 string being played like a guitar is a Tovshuur" What took me far too long to notice (multiple videos and many moons), was that the tovshuur was shaped like a bow and arrow. Blew me away when I finally noticed it was a full on "How the fuck did I never notice that before?".

Please reference that.. but the Mongol without doubt one of the most effiencent (sorry english isn'y my first)..As far as I've seen in actual (not slander writings) the empire became as a never ending attack on them.. Gengish was a man who was misunderstod.. In our times he would be called a hero! He protected his land and expanded when accted upon.. Gengish could have taken all of (modern) India he didn't but wanted to revenge against an personal attack agains the small Mongolia we know today!

Another string instrument that sounds good in many music types is the Hurdy Gurdy. The Hurdy Gurdy was even the main instrument used in the intro song for the series Black Sails.

Great reaction as always. Here’s some stuff I read. Mongolia has been invaded but never conquered. It’s the most sparsely populated country. 30% of the people are nomadic. The president of Mongolia was one of the bikers. Genghis Kahn and the Mongols took over more contiguous territory than anyone ever. If you joined them their reputation protected you. If not, you died.

10:26 Interesting Information: In an interview the HU revealed that “The Wolf Totem” is actually part of a 12th Century “poem” written by one of Chinggis Khaan’s (Ghengis Khaan to Westerners) sons, that they shortened and put to music.

The voices are the traditional singing of the Mongols. Basically it's the same as the Groals in metal. They also combine it with a whistling sound from the vocal cords, making a two-voice chant. This is not always good for the vocal cords: Traditional Mongolian Ethnic Music Group "Khusugtun" (Хөсөгтөн) The Mongols are still largely nomads today. Communities do not have to be a permanent settlement, but can also refer to itinerant nomadic groups. In the Middle Ages, they conquered large parts of Europe and Asia on horseback and created the largest contiguous empire in history. The British Empire was larger but spread across the world. Of these, only a small buffer state remains between Russia and China. Their nomadic life has given them a reputation for learning to ride first and then walk. In fact, as small children they are tied to the horses while they move around. They grew up on horseback and are therefore excellent riders. The HU - Yuve Yuve Yu

This is an excellent video. The video they did with Jacoby from Papa Roach does the main verses in English primarily, but the Mongolian throat singing is by far better. I love this band. If I'm not mistaken, the instruments that the 2 men are playing are supposed to be played sitting. They had to re-learn how to play these standing up. The guy who isn't playing an instrument actually plays a flute-type instrument as well as the thingy that sounds like a spring (I Don't know what it's called) that is plucked at the mouth.
