That second one is my favourite. It looks like the snowfall at my grandmas house in the midlands when I was a kid. Proper, chunky snow xx

Kathy, thank you for the nice series on "snow and ice for modelers". I had not heard of a number of these products, and someday "someday" if I take a halt from building midwestern US railroads I want to do some winter military scenes. You are right that the modeler needs to evaluate their scale and the type of snow being represented. As I right this I am watching a very cold, very fine snow falling on Nebraska. Very fine, gently making a layer but traffic has a;ready cleared most from the street. Other times we get the heavy, wet snow that sticks and clumps. So a bit of thought is needed. Mud and slush need to be considered also for an area that has any activity or traffic. Again, a timely set of videos to watch in the winter :-)

Thanks Gary. I feel at a bit of a disadvantage as we don’t even get snow every winter where I am.

Hi Kathy, great, interesting video, thanks. I was experimenting the other day with Mod Podge mixed with bicarb of Soda mixed to form a very thick paste & used it to form my winter base. I was able to create tracks/foot prints in the 'snow' which the paste held well. These products look great, the WWS method & Glass grit is my fav. I'm surprised how big the Woodland Scenics Flakes are, shame.

I've really enjoyed this snow series. I reckon the Precision Ice and Snow looks best - certainly for 1/35 scale - and for a one-off diorama I reckon I'll treat myself! If I had a lot to do, the microballoons and glass frit both look good. That's been great content, thanks.

I used WS Soft flake snow along with Flex paste ( I don't have a static grass applicator yet ) and they worked great on my latest display.
@KathyMillatt5 жыл бұрын
How did you find the size of the WS granules?
@zingerflippinz20665 жыл бұрын
@@KathyMillatt They seemed a bit on the powdery side but for my purposes it was OK. I can use multiple layers if needed. My display is more on the line of a first snow of the year. I do like that a little goes a long way. My display is about 2 ft x 4 ft and I only used about an inch of the flakes.

Thank you for the very nice breakdown of products. I'll definitely be looking into some of these. In my experience with WS snow, it looked best pre-mixing it with PVA glue and applying as a paste, rather than a sprinkle flock. While that may limit it's use, it makes for very convincing snow mounds.

I've done rather well with the Army Painter snow flocking used in different ways. One way to use it that's pretty nice is to use a polyeurethane gloss as a base glue and adding it over the top if you want a more slushy look to the snow.

Interesting, thanks. What length is their flock?

How would you do a snow shed and drift for Donner Pass Nevada . Oh one more thing with working HO rotary snow plow . Could you please do a video of this It's Not that I'm forgetting something it's that I'm remembering If you have the time could you please have 1:35 Cathy do a video of WW 2 US or USSR Equipment in snow ?????? ( and I still think that you could sale refrigerators to Eskimos ..... Lol )

Bill Horan ,was a snow scene depicting the last defence of the 44th foot regt at Gandemak ....he used baking powder ...along with powdered glass ....apparently it went yellow ...I have also used it on my model soldier scenes in the past ....and have now redone the snow with modern snow effects ....I like your work by the way ...some great techniques ....thanks for sharing !
