You are the only person on You Tube I actually find helpful, like you are genuinely wanting to help rather than just earn views like Think Media or any other channels that make views by people wanting more views. I love listening to you even when it's not just to learn how to improve my you-tubing, but to learn different ways of looking at things so thank you, Katie. So massive like, I wish I could give more likes. I watched it twice. And will watch it again.

I'm a public speaking professor, and the "speaking to one viewer" concept is something I try to teach to my students in every class. Some get it. Others just don't, no matter how many times I say it. The funny thing is that when you said this in your video, I just realized that I've kind of forgotten that in my own videos. That's something I'll be focusing on again, and it's ironic considering how many times I say it to my students.
@simplyylanice2 жыл бұрын
Katie thank you for this. I can’t tell you how discouraging it is to constantly put out vlogs and wonder why they aren’t getting views. To top it off I watch these KZbin educators who pretty much all say “Stop making vlogs cause nobody cares.” Your video makes me feel seen!

I'm so glad to hear that! I personally love vlog style content - it's what I love to watch so I know there is an audience for it, it's just all about learning the right tactics and strategies (and building your story-telling muscle!)

Definitely don’t listen to that advice. I’m a beginner KZbinr myself. But from a consumer stand point I love watching random videos of people just doing everyday things. & I feel like other consumers do as well. Just have to find our community is all. Good luck.

The timing of this couldn’t be more perfect. I am coming out of being bedridden/housebound, for a near decade - while surviving CA’s most deadly and destructive “wildfire,” in Paradise. I just moved back to Paradise, to clean up my grandmother’s property, (as we just had to place her in memory care, when her companion died in May) and plan to live in her motorhome, and maintain her property (until the town kicks people off their own property, whom aren’t building, at the end of April) - being I am, technically, homeless. I’d like to film/Vlog around Paradise, and show people what such a resilient town and community is going through, four years later (the anniversary was Nov. 8th) - as well as how I am getting back on my feet; both, from being removed from society, for so long, as well as after losing my home and not able to go back to the work I, once, knew (I was a hairstylist in Hollywood, before I fell ill). Today I intended to film me driving my (grandmother’s/now my) truck, and learning how to back up her cargo trailers - as to better prepare her property, for easy escape routes, in case any other devastation occurs. Though, also, I would love to travel - so, I am utilizing this experience, as to better prepare me for living on the road. So, I am super grateful for the experience - and everything, which, has come with it. Your videos couldn’t have began showing up in my feed (last week or so), at a better time. Thank you, for making such supportive videos.

감사합니다 도움이 많이 됐어요 :) - not speaking to your audience in a personal way : 청중에게 개인적인 방식으로 말하지 않는 것 - always saying "and then" instead of "but" or "therefore” : 항상 "그러나"나 "therefore" 대신 "그리고"라고 말합니다. 이거했고, 이거했고, 이거했고 ㄴㄴ 하지만! 그래서! 그렇기때문에! 그랬더니! 이런걸 써서 그날의 스토리텔링을 하라. - telling and not show : 말로만 하지말고 보여줘라

Katie you are a goldmine! I've always known since the beginning that my storytelling would be what I needed to work on the most. I love vlogging and I love sharing my experience of motherhood through my lens of vulnerability and failing a lot! But telling my story in a way that's captivating is hard for me. I've watched videos on how to be a better vlogger or why people aren't watching you and so on and of course, everyone mentioned storytelling but did not go in-depth on what it means to be a great story teller! You have helped me see it clearer and I thank you so much! 😍

Documenting your journey around something you’re passionate about can be one of the most rewarding experiences. Vlogs are a powerful way to share the story you want to tell and to connect with others who share your interests. Putting yourself out there can feel challenging, but it’s also one of the most courageous steps you can take. Embrace it, you never know who you’ll inspire along the way!

i love this emphasis on vlogs as STORYTELLING more than anything else! i feel really lucky that when i started creating vlogs recently it felt so organic BECAUSE there are so many other excellent vloggers (such as yourself) who have DEMONSTRATED this and made it feel intuitive for those of us who have been watching this content for ages. it can't just be a list of events, there's gotta be an arc to it. that's what i love most in the vlogs i watch, so i'll keep trying to emulate that in the videos i make... good luck to all of us trying to have fun and find our style!

Thankyou Katie this is what I wanna know. I have been struggling for so long. I put so much of energy and effort to make vlog but nobody sees it. I think there are more depth on this topic like how you edit and expose to your audiences. That’s also compelling I believe. Like not sitting on 🪑 for whole video. thank you for this video 🖤 there’s some stuff that i needed to be reminded of and some other that i should start incorporating (the but/therefore principle especially) 📝 i’d say that a good rule of thumb to build your b-roll footage library is constantly filming whatever feels special in your day, even if you are not in “content creation mode” or it doesn’t occur within a video’s timeline.

This is super helpful but I will also say I don’t watch a lot of KZbin videos that require my full attention. I like to “watch” when I’m doing chores or driving even so I love the videos where a person is sitting in front of the camera and there’s a small amount of b-roll - kinda like this video. I find KZbin content is so much easier to find than podcasts so I don’t even bother with podcasts. This is all in regards to your last point of why make something a video if it could be a podcast. I think a lot of people feel that way which is why the sitting in front of the camera videos often get more views than a vlog

ohhh this is super helpful! one thing i worry about with using footage from storyblocks or else in vlogs is that i sometimes worry that it might come off as inauthentic? like is it realistic for me to have a drone shot of a city, doesn't an establishing shot of a landmark or the train station serve the same purpose you know? will it genuinely make a difference or is this more of a "nice to have"? i understand storyblocks more for video essay types where you have to find b-roll but idk. maybe im just neurotic haha
