I'm 63 and never even thought of painting a picture. My wife died in April 20 and I came across an untouched art set I had bought for her. After a while I decided to have a go. I came across this young lady on you tube and actually managed to paint a half decent picture. I have now got a new hobby. She has such a relaxing, gentle approach. A natural teacher X

I am NOT an artist, or so I thought. After I went to a paint party, I changed my mind. It felt peaceful as I painted and the brush glided across the canvas. Tonight I decided I would give painting another try over spring break. After a short search, I found your KZbin channel and so glad I did! The camera was positioned perfectly and your instructions were incredible! No distracting, annoying silliness, just a lesson that was explained so well, I have the confidence to give it a try! Excellent job! By the way, your calming voice adds the final touch of a nicely done tutorial!

I totally agree Jenn, I have been painting for several years, mostly figurative art, but I just love seascapes and had just about given up on them and I stumbled upon this wonderful tutorial video of Katie's, I took up art about 15 years ago as therapy, and I just love it, it's sort of a mindfulness as I am totally absorbed in the process and forget everything else, and Katie is such a good teacher, explaining everything easy to understand and follow

I absolutely agree!!! You have a talent for teaching, it's a beautiful gift! The world is yours to take... continue your special craft, and you will go far! Thank you, for your time & help,. Katie
@dyliaklatt8 жыл бұрын
Katie, this was a GREAT lesson which also refers to various key aspects of seascapes such as distance, motion, and color blending theory -- you're narrative is so very helpful here, so clear and concise and fun! The only tiny little thing you forgot to mention was that the special brush you used for securely getting that horizon line exactly straight you came in with a slanted flat brush and dragged it with the high tip trailing the lower part of the angle... As a beginner I have had many frustrating moments attempting super straight and clean line with a stare flat brush.. If you could dub in spot of narrative (or a graphic word overlay) at that point of the film which would describe the brush and technique for that it might be helpful. I am a huge fan of yours, I love all your work, and I especially love your tutorial sessions... You are a capable, generous and charming teacher! THANK YOU for sharing your passion with the world.
@KatieJobling8 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, I'm really glad you have found it helpful. I didn't use anything special to make the line straight. The brush just blended the colours slightly, which I mention and explain in the video. But the straight line was just hand-drawn and can be done with any brush. Getting a straight line is very often just down to practice and how steady my hands are that day. But if you struggle with this just use masking tape :) Hope this helps! I'm so glad you love the tutorials and really appreciate your comment :)

I received a BFA degree (Bachelor of Fine Arts) from the University of Texas at Austin, a good University to say the least. What I mainly learned in studio art, was to let your passion do the work and paint your surroundings as you see them. I also learned to critique all paintings, which is a civilized way to read the painter's intentions according to the style of the time. I learned how to prepare a palette and some mediums, but all else came from me, my gut feeling that is. Katie is a very inspiring young artist, unafraid, full of gusto and talent. I prefer her approach more than any "intellectual" class I sat through, but do advise nature and life drawing when one has a chance.

Thank you so much for this video. It really helped me being more confident about myself after a few trials based on speed paintings. The thing is when its speed painting you dont see the most of the process. So when you try on your own what you saw, it happens to be a mess or I used to think so. But after watching this, everything is much more clear to see and I feel sorry for my trials I got rid of which looked just like this painting's first layer. I always thought they would never be a step of any kind of beautiful painting but you totally changed that. This real time video taught me A LOT and I think beginners like me should be patient and watch real time art process videos to learn. I cant thank you enough because I was too excited to sleep all night and couldnt stop watching your art videos and waited for tomorrow to try some of the things I learned from you :)

I followed your tutorial and my piece came out great! Obviously not as good as yours but impressively better than I could've done by myself. I am proud of it, thank you for the awesome guide! You're gifted.

Amazing Katie. I have my first ever paint from this painting of a seascape. I never tried painting because I am afraid that I am not cut out to be even trying a new hobby. OMG, I found out that painting, even though I just decide to try it in my 40s, that it is so relaxing. Your teaching is very easy to follow and love the background music. I may not be a painter, but I love seeing what I have created. If I did not write my initial on my painting, I wouldn't think I was the artist. I love learning a new hobby. Katie, you are simply Marvelous!

like when you first look at it, it looks super hard and like impossible to do but when you follow the tutorial correctly it doesnt look that hard only if you put your best effort in it, it will look good.

I love the way how you explain everything in regards to the layers and details. One of the very best tutorials I’ve seen especially on waves besides Mural Joe but I am just beginning so there’s no way I can follow along with that stuff as this one is right up my alley. Thank you so much I really appreciate it and I love the accent especially being from the US

I'm so in love with art. At my camp today we went to a paint and pottery place and we were painting whatever on a small tile and I did a very detailed beach something similar to this and I really enjoyed it, thinking about doing this painting of yours to help me improve! I'm 12 years old. I also watched the whole video!

Aaagh this is so lovely! I am not really a tutorial kind of person honestly, for some reason I just haven't got the patience to watch them and I like to try new things myself. But oh my, this was so so so lovely to watch! Your voice (and this video in general) was so calming I even think my 14 year old self who never painted in her life could actually do this- which is a really good thing! I found an old analog picture back I took at the sea a few years ago and I really wanted to paint it, so this video came at the right moment, haha!
