I have lived the last 28 years on the southern slopes of Dartmoor. Previous 40 years in Torquay so am used to cycling up hills. But I have to say that ride was amazing. To cycle up Oddicombe Hill on loaded bikes is truly epic. Well done to all 3 of you utter respect. Thanks KK.

One of the only places in England! The Scottish Outdoor Access Code enshrines in law our right to leave no trace wild camp (almost) anywhere in Scotland for up to 3 nights. Really opens up the bikepacking options!

Awesome ride Katie. I was born and raised on Dartmoor, no place like it. I live in Bristol now and this film has made me really miss it, so will have to have a trip down there. One of the epic rides in this country is the Coast to Coast over Dartmoor (Plymouth to Ilfracombe). The first part of the ride Plymouth to Tavistock is likely the best and most scenic cycle paths in this country. It follows and old rail path, so gentle hills, massive viaducts to cycle over and even a couple of tunnels. May be worth a look for a future adventure, usually takes 2 days

That looked an epic ride. I hope I get to do something similar if I can get all the gear I need. Used to head into the hills walking around Betws Y Coed, something great setting up a bivy next to a stream/river and looking up at the stars. I recommend the trek to Wales, the North Coast is lovely! The 5 route, granted mostly paved along the coast; is a great trek. Then, head a few miles inland and you've got the hills you love!

when travelling becomes the norm again...get yourself to a plane and come here to Iceland for a bikepacking trip! Road riding and gravel options along with some mtb adventures if that becomes your thing. Road riding along the largest glacier in Europe and suddenly seeing the glacier lagoon ahead for a stop of lunch. Riding along the southern coast along black sand deserts and endless lava fields can be spectacular. Screw the warm weather, get yourself prepared for a slightly colder ride and enjoy the challenge! But in seriousness, I got sunburnt riding along the east coast in Iceland!

Wild camping on Dartmoor is only legal within the Dartmoor national Park designated areas, a map of which you can find on their website. No more than two consecutive days, no large groups, no fires, only equipment you can carry i.e. no campervans or car camping allowed.

They’ve actually stopped it now for the time being because too many people were going and making a huge mess there. So sad!

I wonder if you reflect on how much your life has changed since you discovered cycling? I know youtuber life is not all glam, and the camera is a demanding taskmaster, but the adventures you’ve had in the last 5 years are an indication of freedom, at the very least. Wish you all the best. Won’t say “you’re worth it” cos that’s an advertising cliché, but “you’ve earned it”, instead.

Think wild camping on Dartmoor is limited to ‘open moorland’, don’t want to criticize as love your vids and attitude to adventures but if people are going to follow your lead and think they can camp anywhere in the national park then they will get in trouble with the local farmers and Park rangers. Please don’t hate me for saying!
@KatieKookaburra4 жыл бұрын
Ahhh no not at all! Thanks for making it clear as I didn’t. For those wanting to camp there, there are are only certain points where it’s allowed. That’s why it took us so long to find a bivy spot the first night as we were making sure we were in the right boundary :)
@richardbishop38864 жыл бұрын
Thanks Katie, it’s not that clear but this map, which you obviously used, would help. www.dartmoor.gov.uk/about-us/about-us-maps/new-camping-map. I’m in Dubai but used to work as a Mountain Leader on Dartmoor. Think you would love the cycling and desert camping here. Love your vids, a real inspiration to so many. Can’t wait for your next adventure.

Funnily enough I do believe Katie is from Sheffield, which is in Yorkshire. You could certainly do a 300 km circular ride around Yorkshire without leaving the county. Would the folks who live in the West Country be allowed to do it?
