Vtuber SCAMMED By Artist Likely POSING As Two Different People...

It's so disappointing to me that so many scammers seemed to keep popping up. It's always been a thing but it's becoming almost blatant especially as someone who constantly has to try and advertise myself to try and get commissions.

As someone who likes to commission others, I've been BADLY scammed by people in the past and I feel awful for being very picky about who I commission. I WANT to commission more people but I don't feel safe branching out to anyone new and it sucks. (I work part time so I get paid $100 every two weeks, so that's a LOT of time I spend saving up for commissions. I even paid for adopts and customs and never got them :( so there's really only one person I feel safe commissioning)

It's something ive notice trying to get comms now, because I don't neccicarally have a history of commission work yet I'm having to do twice as much work to be transparent about my process and everything so people can feel more comfortable possibly hiring me but even then its been near impossible.

@@spiderleamer Yeah, and it only got worse since AI became a thing and people have been using that to try and scam people. I wish there was a way of permanently banning scammers off of social media because its so tiring for everyone else.

I've been trying to do commissions and was able to do one this year, but aside from that one enthusiastic commissioner, I haven't had any luck. It's so frustrating seeing scammers or people using AI getting all this money while I'm working so hard and not getting any attention 😭 How in the world do these scammers end up with 12 commissions at the same time? What are they doing to gain this audience?

8:37 because what you just suggested would still legally be fraud. Even if someone owes you money you are not allowed to just take it. You have to go through a court process. You could get into trouble for this. Married couples have had people arrested for using JOINT savings accounts. You definitely cannot pull money from the account of someone who owes you even if you have access to it

Yup sounds like they could accuse Ina of theft and this amount of money would probably be a lot. If they are two different people she should probably sue her for her money. Not sure if she could do like her own police report...?

I actually have commissioned Sora and I’m one of the people that got a model from them too but it hadn’t been cut apparently? I can’t remember much, but I still have the conversations on it. Thing is, Ina had told me that they had to put up the rest of the models and that mine was only a sketch. She messaged around July saying that she was in the process of doing our commissions and we can check trello. It’s been almost a year too. I’ve been waiting for it. I haven’t gotten an angel inspired for because of it. I basically can’t spend so much on a model but when Sora came around, it was like, the best feeling to see an artist who doesn’t charge much and has a beautiful art style. It’s not just me, but one of my friends also commissioned her. I don’t believe she got any sketch from her but I’m not too sure. I was really excited and was hoping to get it

You can sue for anything, you can even sue someone for walking past you too fast and you "felt threatened" or whatever, there is no minimum amount of damage that has to happen to be able to start a lawsuit. The court would never find someone liable of defamation for something this small though.

This reminds me of some of the sketch artists I use to see on Tumbler and Gaia Online. They were always taking payment, giving a rough sketch if they got that far, then disappearing, with a bunch of excuses. I've seen a few with "friends" accounts that popped on, trying to explain why the artist left or wasn't getting anything done, and eventually the accounts of both the artist and the "friend" would end up inactive ore deleted. It paints a bad picture for other artists. I had issues getting work as an artist before because my style was close to that of one of these scammer accounts, and later found out they had stolen some of my art, slapped a filter over the images and were using the art to scam people out of money. It's a big headache and hurts the artist community as well as hurts the community of art collectors.

This one is so complicated. Yeah it makes no sense. If the payment for comms goes into a PayPal account that has both Sora AND Ina’s bank accounts, why tf would Sora put the money in her bank account then cashapp Ina. Just deposit half into each??? Or whatever the weird agreement was.

I'm not seeing people mentioning this, but the model is only 250usd, which while a lot in the Vtuber world it's like the price of a lemonade cup. Usually models that cheap are scams like this case

'Not home' red flag to begin with. People aren't away from home all the time, that is expensive to do in the first place. Also telling the customer about other customer's jobs is a red flag. That's a privacy issue.

idk if anyone is going to see this but i have a super dope trick i use for doing commissions. i often make mistakes both with my outlining and coloring. if i make a mistake with the shading due to photoshops undo limit, i create files for each key stage. this goes as sketch - outline - flat color - shading. as all of these are in seperate files unique to each other, this allows me to go into the previous stage, copy and paste the section that has the mistake, and redo it withought needing to redraw the part entirely. on the model im working on at the moment, i had a situation where with the hair, id colored in the shading but i hadnt cleaned it up properly as it was hidden and i tend to have a very bad memory. as i had the flat color file saved seperately to my photoshop cloud, this allowed me to copy and paste the hair i had muddled up on, and trace over my previous shading. this time making sure to clean up the hair properly so when rigging, it wouldnt show. this is super helpful for me as it means if the person whos commissoned me wants a part of the model changed or reshaded, all i have to do is copy and paste over the previous part and re do it withought having to re draw it. idk if anyone else does this but i find that super helpful ngl

Honestly, I'm struggling to fully agree with you on some points 😅 alot of what you were suggesting (like Ina just taking the money out of the bank account) is VERY illegal and if this is true (which im still 50/50 on. Not saying its fake, but i have doubts), Ina could very easily be sued for doing that. And the burden of refunds WOULD fall on her because technically, they were operating in a joint. She could get some pretty bad legal repercussions if she hadn't at least said she'd try to refund

$250 for a model?! That's insanely underpriced. I feel sorry for people when they get scammed, but at some point people should do some initial research into how long things take and that peoples time isn't free. Minimum wage, and no skills, means your time is worth $10-$15 per hour. Minimum wage, and some skills, means your time is worth $18-$32 per hour. If you're very good at what you do, have a degree, and have experience then you're worth $32+ per hour. I would say the cap is $240,000 a year, unless you invest, network, market yourself, or own a business. My artist friend, who works for an architecture firm, makes $52 an hour, so her anime-style commission costs reflect that. Could someone without a degree make similar creations in the same amount of time? Yeah absolutely, but why would she work for less when she already knows her worth?? I can rig and texture a model in roughly 4 hours, but I know my hourly rate is $48 an hour. I also know my company pays more for my time with a benefits package, bonuses, hardware costs, etc. If I were freelance, I'd have to factor all that into my hourly pay, and also figure out how frequently I get a commission. If an org is making your commission, they have to factor in multiple salaries, health benefits, marketing, etc into their product prices. That $4000-$15000 price range starting to make sense to people now? If you can't afford, I suggest you work on developing those skills yourself with your time and limited funds. Then you'll have a skill you can show off for content.
