Floor has such unique technique of using chest and head voice, as well as blending them and switching between them effortlessly. Only in Finland do most people know Nightwish. Before Beste Zangers, basically no one in the Netherlands knew who Floor Jansen was. All these reaction videos have been a delight, but metal is and remains a marginal genre. Never forget how ignorant normies usually are.
@cinderellsworth4 жыл бұрын
@@Distorted80 I don't think that "ignorant" is the right word to describe what you call "normies". In fact, as an American who had never heard of Nightwish until a few months ago, I find that offensive. The U.S. Corporate world keeps bands like Nightwish from being mainstream by refusing to give them air time. They would rather sell the masses their canned version of music, which THEY control. So, the internet, and specifically these Reaction Channels is how MANY if not MOST Americans find bands like Nightwish. Every country has their own forms of restrictions on the flow of information. The U.S. is no different. Stay Safe, Friend.....be Blessed......🕊❤ Sincerely, 🌟💫💛
@garyballard1794 жыл бұрын
@@Distorted80 Ignorance about metal is mainly due to disinformation spread by metal "elitists" trying to keep 'normal' people from listening to metal. In the US, elitists intentionally reinforce the stereotype of metal as "devil's music" to keep people away. If I tell people that Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band, the image they're conditioned to associate with metal is a Black Metal band in face paint with black spiky leather outfits and blood running out of the corners of their mouths as they scream at the top of their lungs while blasting noise at 150 decibels. Floor hitting the D6 at the end of GLS would never be considered a possibility in the genre.

Thank you for not interrupting this amazing performance and instead, going back to pick out the moments you regarded as of special mention afterwards. This performance is all the more outstanding once you know that this was a setlist that she had no part in creating and not one of the songs was written for her (although she had changed the way the end of this song is performed) - in fact, she hadn't even been confirmed as the permanent lead female vocalist at that stage - See the documentary "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" for the full story of that tour, which had begun in early 2012 with Anette Olzon, with whom they parted company (after a near cancellation after the audience was admitted in Denver on the 28th September was only saved by the singers from Kamelot, who were opening for them - Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz - frantically learning a revised setlist between them in about an hour) at the end of September, after their show on the 29th in Salt Lake City, with Floor invited to complete the tour as a stand-in. She was at her sister's wedding when the call came to her in The Netherlands, and her first show was on the 1st of October in Seattle. Floor was announced (or rather confirmed - she'd made the role her own by then) as the permanent lead vocalist and a full member of Nightwish on 9th October 2013 - this performance was on 3rd August 2013, over two months earlier. No pressure then!

You mentioned it, and I saw you enjoy hearing it, and that made me happy that I wasn't the only one that noticed how great that part is. I truly enjoy watching you listen to the music and the singer because I know from your face that you are really listening, and not just doing it for the views. It's a very interesting fact that, I also used to know/listen to Nightwish when I was (much) younger but I never liked them that much back then. I recently sorted through my CD collection and found some Nightwish albums as well which proofs that lol. But it was very recently that I stumbled upon this song here performed by Floor which cought my attention immediately! And now after re-listening many songs from Nightwish perfromed by Tarja, Anette and Floor I definetely think that Floor is the best fit for this amazing band. All three singers are great, don't get me wrong but Tarjas and Anettes style, voice and acting never touched me the way Floors did in the very first moment. I know many "old" Nightwish fans will start argueing now but for me there's no doubt about it that Floor is the one and only person who is able to perform Tuomas compositions in the way they are meant to be performed. Tarja has a beautiful operatic voice but she was focusing almost exclusivley on this style which often made me think that something was missing. Tarjas stage apperance and acting also seems not to fit some of the more powerful songs. Then came Anette, she managed to add a bit more rock feeling by using more belting and more "acting" on stage but the tonality of her voice does not fit some of the songs and she didn't had the flexibility to go through the whole vocal spectrum so some songs sounded almost boring. Finally when I listened to Floor I realized, she is the one who combines the positive aspects of Tarja and Anette without the negatives and adds her own distinct style on top. Her voice fits very well and she has perfect control in every single note and she knows exactly how to emphasize and express emotions with her voice AND her acting/movement/gestures. She might not have Tarjas great operatic voice but she can still go all classical and operatic as well but then immediately switch to a full on belting slash hammer voice that blows your mind. And on top of that just watch her apperance on stage ... every gesture, every step even every blink of her eye is spot on to the music and the story she's telling. I know, the way Nightwish sounds and performs today with Floor is not all Floors work, it's also an evolition of the whole band, it would not be fair to say that this is just because of Floor but I'm very sure that they managed to evolve together as a very strong team and as very good friends.

What made it even more unique: she does it live and was not on stage as a full band member, but still as a guest singer. Although she was on World Tour with NW since late 2012, she was still the stand-in for Anette at Wacken Open Air festival 2013. - "it is not ALMOST a classical interlude." It is classic!! Wonderful reaction. This new wave of alpha live vocalists (Dimash, Floor, and Sohyang) transition effortlessly between vocal placements based on personal expression of the music. What they do can not be presented on an album recording because one simply assumes this has been cobbled together from multiple takes/tracks with a computer... You have to see them create each color live to understand the mighty thing they have done. These three are currently the greatest live vocalists on the planet, and you're lucky if you hear any of them on the radio. Ever. Shame on the music industry and honor to these 3 true artists in a sea of fakers and technology ❤

@@mattphillips2530 Ok, well maybe it was different then. I can't remember really as I wasn't that big a fan of Nightwish back then. I've been familiar with Nightwish ever since Oceanborn was released. Lost a bit of interest during the Anette era, as thought her live vocals were a bit average. But from the day I heard Nightwish with Floor for the first time in early 2015, they quickly became my favourite band. 😄

Super nice reaction of you, and excellent analysis of Floor's techniques, power and ability to switch between the techniques. Please more of Nightwish with Floor - but I am sure you didn't find Floor's limits. On their new album, she was challenged for the first time in Shoemaker - getting the right feeling at the end - but she solved it, at home in her own studio, and now it's on the album. Great reaction and do enjoy the Nightwish adventure together with the Nightwish Army 👍🤘🤘

Your analysis was spot on. Or as we say: lots of singers sing how they can, Floor sings how she wants. Indeed she chooses the vocal placement/technique that the song needs, at any given time during the song. She is able to switch seamlessly, whenever she wants or whenever the song requires it. She is probably the most versatile singer on the planet.

Great reaction! GLS, with Floor singing is the most reacted to song, in the history of music video reactions. A bit ahead of Jinger Pisces. FYI:There were 82,000+ in the audience that night. It is the 13th of 15 songs that NW performed that night. I would recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime'from the same concert for your next Nightwish reaction. The singer's name is Floor Jansen. She is the 3rd and still current female lead singer of Nightwish (est. 1996) She had been with the band for little over 10 months at the time of this concert on 03 August 2013. She started performing in her first Metal Band, After-Forever at the age of 16. After that band disbanded, she started her own band called Revamp. Which was on hiatus, when she received a call from Nightwish to take over the female lead singing duties mid-tour. The rest is history.

Welcome to your first stop of a long, surprising always awesome Nightwish journey with Floor. Here are some suggestions for your next stops: -> There are a couple of great songs from Wacken: "Storytime" and "Ever Dream" are catchy in a very positive way. "Song of Myself" starts catchy and ends with everyone headbanging. "Romanticide", "Last Ride of the Day" and "Ghostriver" are the heavier ones. -> "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast: Maximum speed and Marco (the singing bass player) becomes Hannibal Lecter ;-) -> "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look!! at the growls. You'll be surprised.) -> „Dead Boys Poem“ from Buenos Aires (so amazing and emotional) -> „Weak Fantasy“ (Tampere): Kai the beastat the drums, Troy joins in, great duets with Floor and Marco, ... -> "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) is epic as "The Poet and the Pendulum“ (Wembley - get to know the background of this song ahead) From the new album there are for obvious reasons no live sessions so far. For all songs there are lyric videos, except "Noise". But maybe you'll give some songs a try as well. It's an awesome album. Definitely not an "easy" one with a lot of really unique songs, different from what is "typical" for Nightwish. -->"Noise" is probably the most "typical" song and the only one with "real video". The video is great as the song itself --> "Tribal" is the heaviest one and Kai, the drummer, had to change his normal setup to be able to play it. --> "Shoemaker" (about Eugene Shoemaker) is such a heavenly and epic song with the possible epic ending. --> "Music", Pan", "How's the Heart", ... are really cool songs as well. All songs are challenged Floor as singer, which is not easy to do. --> "Harvest" is so different with Troy singing, that you will wonder if you're listening to Nightwish. Just in case (which I can really recommend) you're going to do watch Floor at "Beste Zangers" make sure you take the clips of "jenniezelf" on KZbin as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles. The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them. It's a song that is from that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers.Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is legendary.

I think you’d really enjoy checking out more of Floor, she’s the most versatile singer I’ve ever heard, ever. You already saw how many tools she has in her voice in this song, you mentioned how she chooses her vocal placements and tones so well to suit the song and emotions she’s expressing and that’s so true again I have a hard time thinking of a singer who does it better. But you’ve only begun to see all the tools she has at her disposal. Her live stuff with Nightwish is all amazing and she was on a show called Beste Zangers, her performances on there are all great and again showcase the versatility, she songs everything from pop to country to salsa to opera to musical theater on that show, and in particular, the musical theater, her performance of phantom of the opera with Henk Port as the phantom... it’s just so so so so good

Nightwish Army is of course here! ;) Well, I can only say that I agree with every word being said. I don't know what else to add... Maybe only some details that may be interesting to you: for example, this particular show was Floor's first big gig with NW (82K people in the audience), and at the time she was not an official member of the band yet, she was replacing Anette Olzon who left the band in the middle of this (Imaginaerum) world tour. This song was played on a 1hr 10min mark of the concert. Maybe you already know, but Floor used to be a vocal coach for a number of years, and has classical training as well) If I start recommending Floor's performances here, the list will be quite long, so I'll try to shorten it a little: Beautiful acoustic: How's The Heart ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4rXnIOme76thdE ) Classic opera: Puccini: O mio babbino caro ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5a3qnSQqbtoras ) Classic duet (kinda): Phantom Of The Opera ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp2mhJagq6mCgK8 ) Soft pop: Shallow ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2eboZhqlsRssM0 ) Touching, emotional: De Beelden Blijven (A Song for War Child) ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2eQZ4GMqMeabLc ) Growling: In Nightwish ( Yours Is An Empty Hope kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKqvpIhthphmac0 ), in ReVamp ( Wild Card kzbin.info/www/bejne/faG9fnl3gb6YfcUm51s ) Latin: Qué Se Siente ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/epe8ln-LpNaqZqc ) Thank you for your reaction and analysis! Greetings from Moscow and stay safe! ;)

HI Katriinka, How do you feel reacting and analyzing another vocal coach and singer? "Phantom Of The Opera" with Henk Poort in Beste Zangers is a great recommendation. 4:06 Saying that she is not pushing hard now is true, consider it as foreplay. A goosebump starter. 4:11 We are witnessing here a real girl crush building up. 7:14 This is a fact, Floor knows how to use her toolbox. In her first show with Nightwish, she had to learn de 15 songs in the setlist in 48 hours. 9:40 Ghost love Score is practically 2 songs in 1, an interlude is very good for the vocalist to rest her voice a little bit. Also, add suspense and a theatrical mood in the show. 12:10 this part of the song, she starts the Goddess mode. 13:56 the start of the Floorgasm as only she can do. 14:19 The Floorgasm in all your glory It was a pleasure to watch a reactor that knows what she is doing. Thank you for the video.

That was a nice reaction especially the part where you point out how she applies emotion and expression by transitioning through various techniques and that it is all a matter of choice on what would be the best fit for the current mood of the song. I have heard many people say Floor is too technical and doesn't have any emotion because she is too concerned on hitting the notes flawlessly (usually Amy Lee fans say this), I should forward them to this reaction video!
