Is extremely refreshing to see that every team wag member gets the same treatment! I felt like you were talking about my own experience and I love that! knowing that a World Champion and a normal girl who wants to get healthy and strong has the same experience, the same awesome and positive support that Adee, Ashlee (my coach) and all of the other coaches it fills my heart with excitement!!

If you are training as much as a professional athlete does, you need carbs. if you are doing this for the health, carb restriction is beneficial.

It's a really good video. It makes me feel better because I was told carbs are bad but I've seen the best progress with moderation between fats and carbs. Although I do limit my low GI carbs because it makes me feel soo drowsy

You cant compare women and men to begin with .Viking men would have looked like this ,yea obviously .But women back then ?Hell no..feminism hadnt yet poisoned the minds of our women back then .People knew their roles depending on their gender and lived and acted accordingly .Women though would have been a bit more muscular compared to modern women on average since they all lived and worked in farms

Ha! Oh man I was on the same boat. Started wag as a high fat low carb athlete... Thought I would gain fat if I ate carbs so I stayed cleared of them, and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get stronger. Started wag about 3 weeks ago, I actually lost 10lbs (which I didn't even think I had to lose), have been feeling great, faster and stronger, all while eating 330 grams of carbs a day!

I don't see why people question the necessity for her to bring her own food with her. If she does that, she knows exactly what she is eating and that ticks that box so she doesn't have to worry about it. I'm no kind of athlete, but when I did go on a diet to drop 26 kg I monitored my weight very closely for 5 months (every single morning). If I stuck to my diet plan, I was losing 0.3 kg/day like clock work. If I went off the diet though, I could gain a kg very quickly. So that is not losing 1 day, then it takes like the rest of the week just to get back on track. I'm healthier now, and still looking to improve my diet (although it's come a long way!). I make mistakes all the time. Now I am training too and if I eat the wrong food, it affects my training and my motivation. She simply cant afford that if she wants to stay at the top level... if she has a couple of bad training weeks/year, that is 2 weeks for her competition to improve over her.

PLEASE PLEASE someone show this video to Crossfit HQ. Carbohydrates are the primary source of energy for performing the high intensity Crossfit workouts. In fact there are absolutely necessary to perform. Get over the whole "paleo diet thing". Crossfit HQ get some basic nutrition education and stop promoting a poor diet for performance. Additionally carbohydrates are also necessary for some vital organs of the body to function properly. Of course you need to take them in the appropriate amount and not excessively. SO PEOPLE IF YOU WANT TO PERFORM EAT CARBS! Thanks a lot WAG for educating the people of Crossfit on proper nutrition. Please spread the word. :)

what should have been said is that yes carbs are necessary if you are training 6 hours a day...if you are a regular, noncompetitive crossfit athlete you can perform well without the carbs...6-7 hours of training completly different story vs 1 hour of training

like it matters, carbs are carbs they are all reduced to sugar(glucose) once in the body. And do I have to telly you why is sugar bad?
@arisadevine196
@arisadevine196 7 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree that sugar is bad and yes, once consumed, some carbs are reduced to sugar. BUT, not all carbs are the same. There are slow burning carbs like oatmeal and such, and there are fast burning carbs (carbs that your body uses for energy), there are bad carbs (junk food, candy, etc.), and there are 'natural carbs' that are in normal and healthy everyday foods like fruits and veggies. We should be selective and choose wisely when it comes to the foods we put in our body, and we should acknowledge the difference in carbs, choosing those that are healthy for you. Some people say they need carbs for energy, but that doesn't mean you should eat a gallon of spaghetti before working out. Alternatively, a banana would be much healthier.
@Hoehihoh
@Hoehihoh 7 жыл бұрын
That's nonsense. The problem with sugar and some refined carbs is the insulin stress that's put on the body. The body reduces all energy sources (carbs, fat and sometimes protein, if there is a surplus of protein consumed) to glucose which it draws its energy from. But just because Glucose is a type of sugar doesn't mean all sugars are the same, or consuming sugars is the same thing as your body producing them itself. In general, the body uses insulin to regulate (or rather, lower) the blood glucose level. But with time and intense use of the hormone, we can develop a resistance to insulin, making it harder on the pancreas to produce enough to efficiently regulate, until our bodies fail. Sugar and refined carbs place a lot of insulin demand on our body, which is why they can cause problems. Other energy sources don't have that problem. Edit: To answer the original question: A year ago Katrin said in an interview her main carb sources are rice and sweet potatoes, along with fruits and vegetables. I don't know if that's still accurate, but I believe at the time she already was with WAG.
@arisadevine196
@arisadevine196 7 жыл бұрын
We agree. Also if those are the type of carbs she's getting, then it sounds good. My point is carbs and sugar in processed foods that completely lack the proper nutrients for your body are not the right kind of carbs to be eating.

Diet is important. Hers works well for Katrin. She looks magnificent. It seems a bit fanatic though to bring tupperware to a restaurant. In EVERY place there can be found something that fits your macros: protein source (lean meat, fish, Tempeh, lentils), carbs (rice, Quinoa, potatoes, noodles) and tons of vegetables. Go without the sauces and you are served! This "a true champion needs to make sacrifices" talk sounds a bit too dramatic to me. Her coach takes himself a bit too important for my taste as well.
@dawnc5797
@dawnc5797 7 жыл бұрын
There are too many unknowns when you eat in restaurants these days. I piece of meat isn't necessarily a clean piece of meat. You don't know what it's been cooked with or next to, you don't know what's been added to it. Same with veggies and carbs. There is almost no such thing as clean eating in a restaurant unless it specializes in clean eating and most do not. And the level she is at in her training, why on earth would she take a chance? I dang sure wouldn't. Is it extreme? Perhaps, but she is willing to do what it takes to be her best. I couldn't do it but I respect her for it.

Kasimir B I ordered chicken with a side of broccoli and sweet potatoes. The potatoes and broccoli were fine but the chicken was super super sweet it had a ton on sugar in the marinade and that was the lowest cal chicken in the place so I completely understand it. If I eat one meal out of my house my nutrition is out of whack and I have no choice and that's why I prep all my meals so that I'm not tempted to say yes to go out I know I have had at home to eat all the time.
@Hoehihoh
@Hoehihoh 7 жыл бұрын
I thought about this as Heather told the story: Sure, you could find chicken and broccoli or something _somewhat_ like that on the menu, but apart from it not being measured, macros aren't everything. She may not be ruining her macros, but she may be missing out on tons of vegetables and micronutrients that would have been in the dinner that was planned. Besides, bringing tupperware to a restaurant when you're with people who all order something off the menu doesn't really pose a problem, does it? The thing about this series and Ben Bergeron's pursuit of excellence is this: Don't cut _any_ corners. Sure, these things aren't going to make a big difference, but there's also no real reason not to do them. And it's just more fun and rewarding for Katrin if she can just live her life without exceptions. I'm sure Katrin doesn't consider any of these choices sacrifices.
