That's the passion it takes to understand, to be good at, any thing, doesn't it? Whether you're arranging millions of symbols and letters in the various extremely tedious ways (programming) or you're looking for, watching, and analyzing endless birds, their habits and foods, & the endless songs they produce, from one day to the next, for decades.... you just have to have the passion for it, if you're going to be "good" at any thing... Ian clearly has the passion for his studies (of Chinese and ecology)...

Wow, a whole episode related to birds. This is way better than I expected. I know China is great for birding so for a foreigner to do his study and research here is nothing unusual. Totally agree with you, Kathy. I also envy Ian gets to do his research in the wilderness, because I also completed my 5-year grad school in a chemistry lab, and then spent most of my professional life in chemistry labs with all the unpleasant chemical smells. .... what a bad choice.
