Nothing but admiration for anyone undertaking a solo 2000k bike tour in a foreign country, holding down a job, and creating some of my favorite content on the internet! I read in another comment you're "taking your time" editing (not enough hours in the day) the video, but selfishly the wait is killing me. Thanks, have fun, and stay safe.

Great to have you back Katherine! It is very fresh contents you are making here. You know, it is not a new phenomenon that foreign influencers flocked in to report China. But we often got bored soon by those view count oriented contents which seeks too much attention on the bling bling(hardware) side of China. You on the other hand refuse to be classified as those and continuously do it your way without a single step back. How precious it is! Your focus on the ordinary people, rural areas rarely seen from other bloggers, cultural aspects of a transforming society and seemingly trivial matters like environmental topics are actually more revealing of how China it is today. You have reported more of a China an ordinary person will likely to experience than those bling bling bloggers do. Thanks for your hard work. Please keep up! Take care of yourself and safe journey.

Cattt: Even the big cities are China. Her fans claim that the real China is rural China. No, the real China is BOTH the cities and rural China. Americans insist that China is poor and rural. China has fantastic cities too. They sure are cleaner and have fewer crimes than those in the USA.

It is remarkable how China manage to restore all these temples in these third or fourth tier cities/villages. I was travelling in a couple of them last month and it's like those shown in this video.
@WilhelminaRa Жыл бұрын
its not only that, they still build even new temples . I live a bit further north from shanghai, in nantong area, and there i went to a buddhist temple looking like the old ones you know, only that it was build from 2018-2021, and still needs some final adjustments. Here they also copied an ancient garden with a big merchants house (from the qing dynasty) for relaxing purposes, it looks exactly like the original. If you look around you will find a lot of gems here in China , I am so glad to have moved to China withmy chinese wife.
@hclau218 Жыл бұрын
@@WilhelminaRaThat Buddhist temple was built by donations from local businesses, as are most new temples. They build as funds become available. The temple you mentioned has its own vege plot that provides for the supply of greens... I had dinner with the head monk a couple of times several years ago!! 😂

@@jackolantern7342 it's a categorization of the GDP and population of any given city, 1st tier being the highest that include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, etc and tier 2 includes cities like Guiyang, Changchun, Dalian, and Harbin.

It is remarkable how China manage to do so many things such as space program, GPS, HSR, roads, bridges, renewable energies (hydroelectricity, solar power, thermal, nuclear, etc.), alleviation of poverty, education, 5G, health care, environmental clean up, just to name a few. And this was done within last 10 to 20 years.

Hi 阳离子, been your subscriber for a few years now, from Nanjing, love your video as always. Just a small thought off the topic, the very thing got me thinking when the stranger in the video taking selfie with you was calling you russian girl, to me it is nearly impossible to imagine a russian girl with your traits. Actually the US is probably one of the few countries that can actually produce or educate someone like you, open-minded, adventurous, easy-going, confident and willing to embrace culture from other places, not saying Russia doesn't have this type of person, but the very thing you strike me as an American at first impression means something. Only for this matter I think we need to have a healthy and strong tie with your nation, even though Washington today is filled with anti-China sentiments and politician and China vice-versa in certain degree. Hope the kind of you can keep 加油, contents like this deserve way more credits then it does now.

Kath, love your posts and adventures and looked forward to watching them. Honestly, you and a few other Westerners living in China have awoken the half-Chinese part of me which makes me yearn to go back to that part of me. And hearing you guys speaking fluent Mandarin makes me green with envy! P/S: Still not sure what you do for a living and, I think, that is the 3rd time someone mistaken you for being Russian. "Lots of these guys" are guardian lions (known in Chinese as shi or shishi (石獅) which are placed on both sides of Chinese houses, buildings, and temples to guard against evil spirits. Interestingly, these did not originate in China itself, but in Persia which were presented as gifts to the Han court by Persian diplomats and, by the sixth century CE, they had become popular as guardian representations for the rich and powerful.
