I went to Katankudy for about 3 month back in 2016. The locals where great, generous and helpful while i was struggeling. Love to the people of Katankudy ♥️

As a tourist as well as a human being I am very sad to read many of the comments about Kattankudy on this video. I know the unfortunate history of the Easter Sunday attacks, but even more than that is seeing how divided Sri Lanka still is. I hope and pray for peace for all of Sri Lanka and its people. This is not a political channel or video. My goal is to see and show all of Sri Lanka and it's diverse culture, people, food, and places.

These comments aren't ideal, i agree. However one needs to know the place these come from. It has so much more to do than with the Easter Attacks. The people here and politicians have illegally taken lands that belonged to Tamils, during the war. Today they exploit labour in disgusting ways. If you'd speak to the people of old, you would understand. In my time working amongst the war affected Tamil villagers, I've learnt many sad stories. I cannot speak in detail as to whats happened to the Sinhala villages in the region, but i wont be surprised if its no different. Like i said before, Its very important to identify where and why the hate comes from. Understanding both sides of the coin helps put things in perspective and understand emotions better. As mentioned above, they've changed road names, etc and made it more Arabian. Ironic, especially seeing as many of them are of Indian descent yet clain to be otherwise. Many more shady doings have been going on in this town. However i agree that its an unfair generalization What many dont know is that it was a Muslim school master who identified some terrorists and that some Muslim communities had been protesting the extremism since 2017, which would fall on deaf ears.. Its human nature to be biased towards one's community, or in this case against. This produces a sociological dilemma for tourists such as yourself. If u do want to get the total picture then its best that you speak to all relevant parties, in this case, the communities in the region. Seeing as you're in the East, it might e best to speak to Tamils who've lived there all their lives and get their perspective on the matter. You'd be surprised to find a similar trend in the north West regions of SL like Mannar Also ask yourself why the other community in SL are against these Eastern communities? There has to be a reason, especially when they get on better than expected in other regions. Enough politicization- do try the famous Kathankudy soup if u can. It comes in a HUGE bowl, almost basin like, has a mutton leg in it and is laced with "herbs" ;)

My previous comments based on my real experience about Kaththankudy. I travelled Kaththankudy in 2016 on the way to Batticoloa. when I came to SL. I felt very strange about the Muslims in this area and it is totally different with the Muslims in Colombo.

Wow Sri Lanka is neat and clean and beautiful and their fruits are colorful and looks delicious. First time i have seen a red banana. We have green and yellow in Pakistan. Just saying. before Europeans started ruling us, all the minorities in our nation were following their culture. kings were never a hindrance for that. They followed their culture and mingled with other cultures by protecting theirs. They were never divided. We had no of tamil kings.Muslims have always been part of administration in the ancient Sri lanka. It was after Europeans we divided. They started schools based on religions and chased the muslims who were living in the coastal part of Sri lanka . King Senarath was generous enough to give muslims a land in Kandy, which is called Akurana now and some of them were settled in the eastern part of sri lanka. Sri lanka geographically divided based on religions after british. It was never in our blood to hate, we are following the British by all these hatred and racist comments. If u seriously want to follow your kings, then they accepted diversity. And kattankudy people tried their maximum to avoid easter attacks. they even protested against zaharan and filed a complain against him, but the authorities never took any actions against him. If you are blaming us for easter attcks, then i'm reminding yall, if there werent any attacks against muslims, there would not have been any easter attacks. By your racist comments dont prove the foreigners we are same as rest of south asia, bcs they think we are some sort of a civilized kind than rest of them. The christians who were affected by this easter attack, they dont show much hatred the way the Buddhists do. I would say it was muslims and christians were affected by this the most. In my opinion this place Kattankudy is an extremist place.... check their attire, Srilankan muslims in Gold olden days NEVER wore abbaya , our muslim friend's mothers wore a saree & covered their heads with the same saree and muslim sisters always wore a shalwar kameez and a shawl to cover there hair. So from WHERE did this Abbaya culture & Palm trees come from SUDDENLY and WHY??? why bring other country's culture when we have had our own Srilanka n Muslim culture for centuries.... A small question the way I see sinhales sisters wearing dress these days same as 10 years ago or 20 years ago? Where the mini skirt came from? When the tight t shirts arrived? When bubs and casino became part of the Sri Lankan culture? The tradition and trend changes all the time. From my understanding they feel comfortable with Abaya. I remember my mum wore saree long time ago and now she is on Abaya I asked her many times why? She said it's comforting and easy to put on. And deep down in Islamic teaching the beauty of the woman only for her husband not for everyone in the street. We don't have typical architecture for our country brother we been colonized by almost everyone that's why we have Indian, English, Portugal, French and Arabic architecture patterns in our country. There is nothing wrong to introduce a good tree to our country. We cannot plant coconut or Mango trees in middle of the street it will for sure damage some vehicles and heads. And Dates are really good for the health.

If you go to jaffna or batticoloa you will find Indian hindu influenced architecture. If you go to kandy or south you will find ancient Buddhism influenced architecture.. So don't expect same architecture in the entire country. The multi culture multi religion multi races also add colors to the beauty of Sri Lanka

To be honest really proud about my self as am from kattankudy!! Lot's of beautiful places are there to visit! And it's a historical place tooo ! If you people make a visit " you must take a sit for "AL aqsha mosque" it's a wonderful place which looks same as the real one in madina" and also number of village there surrounde kattankudy and that places will explain clearly how to live the life such peacefully. If you make a visit you must try the traditional food rather your journey won't be full filled.

You can see the hatred and racism in SriLanka. From the outside, it’s friendly to tourists but among each other there’s a lot of bickering and finger pointing. Dear Sri Lankans, if you comment saying that Johnny shouldn't visit this particular place in your country and ask him to leave that place as you say it's not safe, why would you go to real Abu Dhabi or Middle East countries to earn money? Not being racisr but pease look at things open mindedly before commenting. Kattankudy is a friendly area, All ethno religious people of Sri Lanka visit Kattankudy every year and the town will be crowded by the people of other parts of Sri Lanka. Kattankudy beach will be full of tourists during holidays. All those Racists lie about this town, may have never been to Kattankudy. And they say about Zahran, Zahran was escaped from Kattanduy in 2016 and hiding somewhere else in Sri Lanka. He was an outlaw bcz of his extrmist views. Why didn't the police capture and arrest him during 2017? The people of Kattankudy didn't like Zahran and the leaders of Kattankudy filed a complaint about him at the Kattankudy Police station in 2017 (Easter attacks happend in 2019). During that period he was no longer lived in Kattankdy and never returned. But you Racists never talk the truth! All religions of Sri Lanka has some Extremists and Racists people. illuminati SL i also have muslim friends and dont get me wrong here. I dont say that all muslims are racists and it is not the truth. But specially in muslim majority areas such as kattankuddy, akurana, aluthgama.., rasicm and discrimination against non muslims can be widely seen and if you can, just spend few days in those areas and experience the difference. It's not as much as bigger other places. But there are lots of things to see there. Even you could know more about the history of Batticaloa If you visit the "Ramakrishna Mission" and its Library in Kallady not only that but also You could enjoy the authentic food of Batticaloa there. The weekend is the best time to visit Kallady.

Pasting my reply here in the main comments as well... These comments aren't ideal, i agree. However one needs to know the place these come from. It has so much more to do than with the Easter Attacks. The people here and politicians have illegally taken lands that belonged to Tamils, during the war. Today they exploit labour in disgusting ways. If you'd speak to the people of old, you would understand. In my time working amongst the war affected Tamil villagers, I've learnt many sad stories. I cannot speak in detail as to whats happened to the Sinhala villages in the region, but i wont be surprised if its no different. Like i said before, Its very important to identify where and why the hate comes from. Understanding both sides of the coin helps put things in perspective and understand emotions better. As mentioned above, they've changed road names, etc and made it more Arabian. Ironic, especially seeing as many of them are of Indian descent yet clain to be otherwise. Many more shady doings have been going on in this town. However i agree that its an unfair generalization What many dont know is that it was a Muslim school master who identified some terrorists and that some Muslim communities had been protesting the extremism since 2017, which would fall on deaf ears.. this needs to be commended.. Its human nature to be biased towards one's community, or in this case against. This produces a sociological dilemma for tourists such as yourself. If u do want to get the total picture then its best that you speak to all relevant parties, in this case, the communities in the region. Seeing as you're in the East, it might e best to speak to Tamils who've lived there all their lives and get their perspective on the matter. You'd be surprised to find a similar trend in the north West regions of SL like Mannar Also ask yourself why the other community in SL are against these Eastern communities? There has to be a reason, especially when they get on better than expected in other regions. Enough politicization- do try the famous Kathankudy soup if u can. It comes in a HUGE bowl, almost basin like, has a mutton leg in it and is laced with "herbs" ;)

No country can have citizens 100% okay with each other. And certainly when compared to the countries which talk about SL's inequality while their own country has massive problems spanning centuries, one is inclined to think that SL is in a much better place than those countries with their holier than thou statements. Like i said, with matters to do with this particular region, the problem is one that predates the Easter Attacks. Its always a continuous process
