My dad use to take us there on Sundays back in the 60’s. He always got the pastrami. We were kids so we’d share a knockwurst and fries. Then off to the fish market down the block to get smoked sable, Lox and the best pickles I’ve ever tasted (before or since). Great memories of Sunday afternoons.

I used to do roofing in Manhattan about 7 years ago. My coworker was dating a manager there. It lasted about 6 months between them, but Let me tell you, we had them sandwiches delivered to the work site for lunch every other day 😂 With pickles. Good times.

I grew up in New York. I’ve been going to Katz’s Deli for fifty years. My wife and went there three weeks ago and the food sucked. The sandwiches had no flavor and even the pickle’s were bland. Now that it’s owned by some Chinese investors it will never be the same. If you had a Katz’s sandwich six or seven years ago you know the difference. Sad to see a New York institution die.

Please tell me you’re joking about the Chinese investors buying it if it’s true which I have no doubt that it is true because they’re buying everything and that’s so sad because it shouldn’t be owned by some Chinese investors it’s such an American institution of fine sandwiches and the Chinese don’t do meat like this and they don’t care what it cost to own it so the families that owned it are now set for generational wealth with what I’m sure was a exorbitant amount of money,but at what cost and I’m sure too them that it was the right thing to do!!

The same thing happened in Philly to the legendary ishkibbles cheesesteak spot. They sold it to the Chinese and it's been pure shit ever since but it still makes a ton of money off of the name and the reputation that follows

@HAWKEYE go to Moline Illinois to the Belgian Village Inn, they have a house Reuben served on cinnamon raisin bread and there restaurant closed but they have the drive thru you just have to take it home and reheat it but it’s still just as good and still family owned. Kats is shit and it most likely will never come back. They only stay open because of its history but soon word will get around that it’s foreign owned and isn’t worth a penny to eat there. What it was is gone!! 😪😪

Went to New York a few years ago went Katzs got the sandwich great we are Scotish but always new about deli famous got photos on our way to Canada driving on the way back crashed in Manhattan on St Patricks day rescued army fella day to remember went Katzs aye made us feel alright

i've eaten there many times, unfortunately not recently, never been disappointed with any thing. my understanding is that they sold the "space" rights over the building, but the son of one of the owners owns and runs it. not sure if that is true or not. it's a must go place for me when in NYC. I've been to others but seem to motivate back to Katz
