I swear you have the best fish channel. I have just watched like six videos on this topic from other youtubers, and they just don’t know how to explain things well, half the time I end up just shutting their videos off a minute in cuz I can’t stand the sound of their voices, I feel like they were all just frustrating me and you just made the whole set up process so easy just by watching your video. @KaveMan Aquatics Exactly!! New tank as well. I have a ton of substrate to rinse first. Do you reccomend only setting up one of the fx6's until the tank clears up from set up so I don't have to wash them both out?

Nope! Hook up and have them both running to get as much bacteria growing on your media as fast as possible. After your tank clears up just replace the white pad with a fresh one and you’ll be good to go!

In case that you dont need that much current in your tank because you have goldfish , you just change the output for another intake and you have one filter normal and another more slow and the fish do not suffer the water speed., you are the best, thanks.

Very informative video Kaveman, I too run two FX6 canisters on my monster S.American cichlids tank to keep the water clean and clear. I have modified the intakes with pre-filter sponges and the returns with a 90° elbow so it’s not longer dual outlets, gives better flow with the directions they’re pointing. If I never had the FX6 I would say this is probably the best video I’ve seen for set up👍👍👍

Recently bought a second hand tank and one of these came with it. Realised after trying a these steps that my pump is crap. It's leaking and won't pump water at all. Really don't like this filter, but your video was great! Finding your channel made it worh it after all... 😄

Hey Kev...my name is Kevin, and I am your new subscriber from South Africa. I owned a 4ft Malawi tank a few years back, and at first it was all going well, I had about +-25 Malawi's ( peacocks and mbuna's) oh and 2 frontosas ( my most favorite). They were around 3 to 5 cm. My frontosas were bigger though. Unfortunately, they all gradually died, so I did not take too well to it, and that led me to sell the entire setup. I have been watching your videos for almost 2 weeks now, and I have realized where I went wrong. I must say all your videos are by far the best I've seen, easy to understand, and most inspiring no disrespect to the other aquatic channels, but your videos stand out bro, because anyone can see just how passionate you are about this and most of all your honesty and transparency, you have inspired me to give this another try, with your videos I am confident that I will succeed. I did enjoy this video. However, I prefer sump filtration over the cannister.I would highly recommend your channel to others, fun to watch, and thank you very, very much Kev... I just joined 🎉 . I've just purchased a 75 gallon aquarium primarily for angelfish. I'm trying to figure out what filtration to purchase that is not too much flow for angelfish. Eheim is a well known brand but I prefer Seachem or Fluval. If you’d like to go with an HOB the Seachem Tidal is the best. If you want to go canister I suggest the Fluval 407. Hi Kev, your channel has helped me so much with setting up and maintaining my 75G freshwater. Thank you! I’ve had it for almost four years with a Fluval HOB and it’s very well established with beneficial bacteria. I just got a FX4 and wanted your advice on switching from the HOB to the canister. Will the bacteria in the tank be substantial enough to keep the tank from crashing until the FX4 is fully established or should I run both for a while?

IDK brother man, I’m probably gonna have to try your method. I just got back in the game about 2 years ago after a 10 year hiatus from the hobby. Back then the FX 6’s we’re just coming out. When I started my aquariums up again went with an eheim 2262 and an FX 6. And so far the FX 6 has left much to be desired. But I’m gonna try to hang with it. So my next maintenance day, gonna try your method.

@KaveManAquatic Love the new set up but how do you clean it when it is set up THIS way (no bags, no sponge)? The linked video about cleaning the fx6 is older and different set up. Also one of my faves but its not apples to apples. Would love to see how you go about cleaning this set up.

I should have put the media in bags, it's easier for clean up process. But it can still be done. Bio-media should hardly ever be touched. Just slightly rinsed off in tank water. if it was in bags, its just easier to remove and rinse.

maybe one day I'll splurge on 2 glorified water buckets for $600 CAD a piece. They obviously have a cult following, but it's hard to justify on anything but the best builds IMO. For now my SunSuns will do the trick on the 75's. Great step by step video though!

That’s awesome! Glad I was able to help you overcome that obstacle and stick with the hobby!! Yes this will work with non fluval canister but keep in mind you need to know the direction water travels in that filter and load it up accordingly. 😁

Setting up a new 75 with a background soon. Does your background have holes in it? The reason I ask is how does all the fish waste get behind the background to the filter intake?

Doesnt matter when. just leave your old filter installed as well for about 2 weeks so your benefical bacteria can spread into the new filter as well 😊

Absolutely. Thats the reason for the multiple trays, even the red trays in the white trays. So you can mix any bio-media of your choosing. Congrats on the upgrade! 😁💪

I use 2 FX6s on my 120g cichlid tank. Great vid. Just a little note Kev. The Stability should be added after the Prime so there is no interaction with untreated water. Your tanks are rockin! Question, why do you run your intake hose halfway into the tank?

Chlorine doesn’t kill bacteria instantly. I sometimes begin adding tap water to the tank and then add the prime. Either way has shown to work fine without any issues 😊
