I notice that you don't tend to spray penetrating oil on parts to help loosen them prior to disassembly. Is there a particular to avoid using it, or was there a step I missed? Thanks FWIW, back when I first tried to work on a Japanese motorcycle (many, many years ago) I had no idea that they used JIS fasteners and managed to damage quite a few of them. I remember that a common practice was to replace the JIS fasteners with socket-head cap screws.

I do apply duck oil to many threads, but as it needs time to penetrate, I do a long time before I film. Also with stuck threads, is to heat it up, then let it cool. Once cool it will simply undo. There is a very good Kawasaki channel here on KZbin and the chap often states that he uses Phillips screwdrivers, and when you look at all the damaged screw heads, you can see why he should be using JIS

@@km90restoration45 Thanks. Back in the days-before-Internet, it never occurred to me that Japanese would use something other than a standard Phillips-head screw. Although it is funny now, back in the 1980's when I first started working on a Yamaha AG175, I cursed the "Stupid Japanese Engineers" for those fasteners while the Japanese Engineers were probably laughing at the "Stupid American Backyard Mechanic".

No. You tighten in a pattern, but not loosen.
