Awesome build mate. Really tidy package. looks amd sounds the business! 🤙 Your TIG welding looked pretty tidy too. digging the exhaust. Was toying with a similar style exhaust for my XS400 scrambler before seeing yours, but theres no way mine would be anywhere near good as yours 😅 the pipes and muffler just really nail that look on the Kwaka 🤙 People (purists mainly) will bemoan the pipewrap, but im a huge fan of pipewrap, it keeps the heat where it belongs and helps force those exhaust gasses out for better performance (and more comfortable riding!) 😉 I like how you kept the tank, the Kz is a gorgeous bike, and that tank helps to keep that dna in the bike, even though its now a formidable bush-basher 💪💯🙌

beautiful bike. do you have a link for the shocks and tires?
@DoctorMotorcycle
@DoctorMotorcycle 4 жыл бұрын
I did some digging for ya Andrew, I found some shocks that look very similar. www.ebay.com/itm/Shocks-14-4-eye-clevis-shock-absorbers-UNIQUE-Vintge-365mm-MED-DUTY-Black/222666439552?hash=item33d7f43b80:g:ZmIAAOSwQiBZ1Cgs Take a measurement of the eye to eye length of the stock shocks, generally speaking most vintage bikes can handle an extra inch or two depending upon how much clearance there is for the chain (too much extra length and the chain will rub the swingarm and/or shift shaft). I'd guess just based on how high Taylor's bike sits, they're probably 12-12.5 inches in length eye to eye. The tires can be found on eBay, just type in "dual sport tires" or "DOT dirt tires".

Hi classic octane, how long can you ride it before she asks you for a little break? I have a kz750 1980 4 cylinder and on the road going at 60 - 70 mph every 45 mins the bike needs a 10 min break, bike looses power and overheats. Is it normal on this bikes or... Thank you, awesome bike
@DoctorMotorcycle
@DoctorMotorcycle 4 жыл бұрын
Either the jetting is way off (lean), the timing is too advanced, too retarded, or your headgasket is bad. Does it leak by the headgasket at all? More than likely it's jetting, pull out the spark plugs and see how they look.
@manuelbaca7453
@manuelbaca7453 4 жыл бұрын
It was leaking but I changed all the gaskets and it stopped, the spark plugs look good and function correctly not too white or with oil either, the timing it's on correct position but I recently found out that I've been using 20w 50 oil instead of 10w 40, so the engine was working on heavier oil than it should be, could this be the reason? Thank you Dr
@manuelbaca7453
@manuelbaca7453 4 жыл бұрын
I think the heavier oil is also the reason my bendix spins out position after 4 or 5 seconds I'm pushing the ignition button, sorry if I confuse you a little it's just its been a while I don't practice my English, thanks again
@DoctorMotorcycle
@DoctorMotorcycle 4 жыл бұрын
@@manuelbaca7453 Ok, I suspect it's more than likely a vacuum leak. If you have a propane torch, turn the gas on and move it around the carb area. If the idle rises you have a leak. Starting fluid works to but it's less accurate. Do you have an adjustable needle? I would try moving the needle one notch to richen it up a bit and see if that helps. Also make sure that your float height is set correctly. If you don't have vernier calipers, a good baseline is to have the floats in line with the body of the carb.
@DoctorMotorcycle
@DoctorMotorcycle 4 жыл бұрын
@@manuelbaca7453 Thicker oil could contribute but most vintage bikes aren't THAT sensitive. It's more than likely the carbs/vacuum leak. You said you changed the headgasket?

Measure the eye to eye length of you stock shocks, and pay attention to the clearance the chain has over the swingarm. You could probably get away with an inch, maybe two if there's enough clearance. My guess is 12.5" would probably be the sweet spot.
