I had a Vulcan 900 for about a year. One of my favorite bikes ever. Loved it and miss it. I got rid of it only because at 80mph the buzzing was a bit much for me. Had to get something bigger. Now I have a Vulcan 1600 mean streak and Yamaha Stryker 1300. I’m seriously considering getting another 900 just because it’s such a nice bike. 😊

@@martinandersen4003 so the Vulcan 900 much more maneuverable than Stryker and I know it’s cuz of the rake on the Stryker. The only other thing about Vulcan 900 is the buzzing at 80mph. I have had a 900 classic LT for years. I got it so that my wife and I could take week end trips together. "Chill" is a good description of it. I have been riding since the 1970s, but the Vulcan is my cruiser. My other bikes were sports or standard bikes. To me, the Vulcan is kind of like a trucki: slow, heavy, and stable. That doesn't mean it isn't fun, because it is. It is just a slower more relaxed sort fun. The stock seat is awful after an hour, so we replaced it with a mustang seat. The windshield is huge. because it is mounted on the bars it blows the bike around until you get used to it. The bags are kind of small, but they're fine for a two-up weekend. Cruiser riders think it revs too high and vibrates. I am used to bikes revving up to 12,000 rpm, so the motor seems slow to me, and I don't really notice any vibrations. A 6th gears would be nice, but the bike doesn't really need one. The riding position is good, and Joni loves the leg room. I wish it wasn't so heavy. Loaded up with both of us on it with our gear it weighs well over 1000 pounds. For a guy over 65 like m that can be a hassle. The stock exhaust is relatively quiet. I hate the after market Cobras that were on it when I bought it. Too loud for early morning exits from campgrounds. The bike has been totally reliable. Parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive. If you want to impress people, get another bike. If you want to go fast, get another bike. If you want to carve corners, get another bike. The 900 doesn't excel at any of those things. But if you want to get on a bike and actually ride someplace a few hundred miles away on something that isn't the size of a whale, especially two up, at a reasonably moderate pace, then the Vulcan 900 is really good choice.

Kaw makes a very reliable product for the most part. A friend has a 900 Kaw with 150 K. on it. Starter, stator, voltage regulator are usually the parts that let you down. And it isn't a "Canyon Carver". It scrapes the pavement even at a conservative pace. A very good value for the price.

Hahaha ..... He's Hooked, lol..... Welcome to Cruiser land. Just as a forethought seeing as you like to try other rides, try the Yamaha XVS950 Bolt. 65Hp, 5 spd, a bit longer in the legs than the Vulcan and about 100 lbs lighter, (547 lbs wet) and a 29 degree rake.... 27 inch seat height and a 38 degree lean. ( depending on preload and rider weight...) .... I digress. Glad to see you are liking the cruiser style of life..... And your girl will be glad for it too, once you set up your ride for her to join you on your journeys. Stay Safe.

Welcome to world of cruisers, there are wonderful and practical. My main cruiser is a Victory Cross Country, however I always have 2 or 3 bikes. I just sold one as I do every year and this Vulcan is on my search list as is the Yamaha Vstar 950 tourer, or a Yamaha Vstar 1300 tourer. I want a lighter bike as I get closer to 70. I tested a Vulcan 900 classic lt 2 months ago and did like it, and had a great price, but backed out due to spoke wheels and if they go flat I can not plug and get home. However I would only ride this in my area of SW Ohio on state hwy's and good back roads. Love your area, it looks be somewhere around Sonoma County, maybe Napa and some great roads.

I have heard of people cutting it off, but I like it for the simple fact that I only use the bottom of my foot to shift either way. Now, it has never gotten in my way. If my boots hit it or anything I would hack it off in a second. I've had 15 or so dirt bikes and probably 10 street bikes and this is the only one with the heel/toe shifter. I do miss the old center kick stands that some 70s and 80s bike that I've had. Lol. Reflecting just now, I have had well over 10 street bikes. lol. Just old and forgetful. Not as old as you pops. lol, but 60 is very close.

I have a 2016 & 2018 Vulcan 900 classic LT (one for my fl & 1 gor my ny homes) and have to disagree on their comfortable for bike & rider cruise speed on interstate open high situations. They are geared very short from the factory turning approx 3,200 rpm at 60mph & 4,200 & 70mph which is a fair amount of rpm for hrs at a traveling for bike & rider/s. The bike could definitely use a 6th gear but I did install a 2 tooth larger drive pulley in both Vulcans which reduced cruise rpm by approx 250-300rpm which helped reduce cruise rpm a tad on open road. You can also install a 2 tooth smaller rear pulley to bring rpm down a bit too but problem there is if you often ride 2up (like me) in mountainous areas with steep 3-4-5 mile inclines to traverse going 2 tooth smaller on rear pulley would cause you to have be either wot in 5th on those inclines or maybe even down shift to 4th at close to wot with only 900ccs and load it’s carrying. But with just the 2 tooth larger drive pulley the back can hold in 5th gear &hakf throttle) at 60-62mph riding 2up & bags loaded up those steep 3-4-5 mile long mountain inclines np with a little to spare. But in general on the interstate for any length of time 65-70mph is the max I find the motor & me to be comfortable at(it’s turning 4K ish rpm at 70mph) for any length of time. But as suggested here that cruising a Vulcan 900 with stock gearing at 75-80 is just fine for the motor/bike & rider is not good imho! Motors turning approx 4,800-4,900rpm at 78-80mph on its (if I’m not mistaken) 5,500-5,600ish rpm redline isn’t good for the motor & rider long distance though many Vulcan900 owners post here in KZbin as doing that quite often. I’ve owned hd’s & many sport bikes in the past with also 5 decades restoring & riding classic bikes too so have the 1st hand Exp to post what I have here in Ref to the Vulcan 900’s abilities when it comes to its comfortable open highway/interstate cruising speeds. But since my other residence in FL is mostly flat riding with little to no steep grades or mountains to deal with in considering installing a 2 tooth smaller rear pulley to reduce higher speed cruise rpm a bit more when traveling on rt95. But again,in ny with steep mountain grades to deal with the most I’d go is the 2 tooth larger drive pulley that makes for a fairly comfortable long distance cruise speed of 60-65mph all day long without felling like I’m killing the motor & tiring me out with too much vibes too. I also installed foam grips over existing stock grips which reduced vibes s bit at higher cruise speeds of 65+mph. Also installed gel type comfort cushions in my riding boots to reduce vibes thru floorboards at 65+ mph too. In general I like everything about the Vulcan 900 classic lt,it’s a good running & handling light to mid weight v-twin cruiser that replaced my considerably larger & heavier Yami roadstar that I lived that was just getting too heavy to deal with post 2 back operations,a heart attack & 3 stents & most recent a quad heart bypass operation. So now bring almost 68yrs old I’m ok with max cruise speeds of 65-70ish mph on the interstate in the slow lane & 50-60mph out on country roads. But I do step it up when riding (by myself) on my classic Kawasaki’s,1 being a 1974 H1 500 triple 2-stroke & the other being a 1978 KZ1000 LTD both being some of the fastest bikes in their class back in the day which are s blast to ride & love the sound & exhaust note they both produce too. When todays young guns pull up next to me at a light their like what the heck is that, esp seeing & hearing that triple 2stroke idling & then taking off screaming at 8,500rpm banging gears as the young guns catch up when I quickly back off at like 80-85mph or so & they go flying by me! Happy motoring! Scott

@scottwheaton9689 so interesting to read, it's like reading an old school letter. Kinda sad that isn't a thing for us in the younger generation. I'm considering the Vulcan 900 Classic as my first bike. Have driven quite a lot of cars, trucks and semi's, but so far my survival instinct has been to prevalent to get the bike license. Been driving 125cc 2 strokes though. Cross shopping for the Honda 1100 XX Blackbird, my childhood dream. It's half of the price from a 900 Classic, but muuuuch more intense and dangerous for the driving license. 150hp with fairings hits differently than 50hp and no fairings. Anyways, time will tell. Again, thanks for your long message, just reading it made me a bit happier.
