Kawasaki ZX6R Mods: Aggressive Sprockets

Decided to toss some street tires and a new rear sprocket on the old ZX6 track bike. The new setup is now -1 in the front and +2 in the rear, resulting in a ton of torque and power in the lower end, with a bit of a top end loss. My estimates are that the top speed when stock was around 163 mph, and it has now been reduced to about 142 mph (indicated).

You lose so much top end doing -1/+2... Really only makes sense if you track your bike a lot, stunting, or you're really high above sea level. I had done the same on my gsxr 1000 when i lived in Colorado springs due to the altitude. But moved back Washington so now im back to stock gearing.

Yea this bike is 99% of the time a track bike, and my main tracks I’ve never seen over 140 so it’s setup perfectly for those tracks now, on street it definitely doesn’t make sense but I wanted to make sure everything felt right before my next track day.

@@2WCapowont the 15 make you go faster as opposed to more power? I wanted to drop my rpm at speed so dropped to a 40 and contemplating the 37. Wash state. Neighbor Karens hear the high rpm and think im doin 80☹️

Just curious on why you dont think it makes sense if you use the bike for street. I just bought a -1/+2 because i want to start wheeling more, but it is for my daily bike

I am thinking of -2 +3 on my street triple 675 any suggestions ? Will it wheelie easily?

@@aniruddha4119 that will be a very aggressive setup for the street. You may want to try modifying the rear first since it’s easier and see how that feels.

What sprocket setup will still be good for wheelies but won’t take away any of your full speed ?

That would be stock changing your gearing at all to give you more torque will always take away some top speed

Compare the 0 to 60 to the stock ones

Would be super hard to compare but I can try and do a few 0-60 pulls on camera next time and see what I can manage

It's gonna be about the same 0-60 bikes just gonna rev higher than stock for any given speed and probably wanna lift the front more in 1st maybe even 2nd gear. -1/+2 is a big change to the gearing. You'll lose about 20-25mph off your top speed. But the low end and mid range grunt you get is insane

@ you would lose acceleration and gain top speed, but your dash may not show that speed difference accurately. Would need a gps app to get accurate speeds most likely.

@ would you recommend going to 16 from 15? I was planing to stay stock however the stores here doesnt have 15t in stock. So i purchased the 16t

@ i personally wouldn’t as it will make it feel sluggish off the line, I went smaller in the front and bigger in the rear but mines a track bike. Stock size is pretty good for the street.

I’m fairly confident that it will, I’m significantly faster on the 636 than I am on the MT10 outside of maybe the straight lines. Hopefully I’ll find them again this weekend and try it haha.

Taking your mirrors off and replacing them with a camera is the dumbest thing you can do. You are not on a closed track. You are on public roads and there are a lot of careless, idiotic drivers out there. You need to watch you back, dude. How can you do that without mirrors?

@@Backtothehat was test riding a bike that’s primarily used for track, but I 100% agree not having mirrors is terrible for the street. That bike no longer does any street at all and is running track fairings. Thanks for watching
