This video covers the basics of converting the 2005 to 2008 Kawasaki ZZR600 and the 1998 to 2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R into a streetfighter...
I have owned this ZZR600 for about eight years and have never had an issue with it. I painted the left side of the bike several years ago after it was struck "hit and run" style while parked in a parking lot with no witnesses. A couple years later I ended up low siding the bike while riding at Deals Gap. I didn't feel like fixing the bodywork again... Streetfighter conversion was the next move! This is a video covering what I've done to convert the bike.
Here is a link to the fork clamps I used:
www.speedmotoco.com/Hinged-Sh...
Here is a link to the headlight I used:
www.amazon.com/Projector-Head...
These bikes are super cheap these days (especially wrecked ones) and are still very relevant machines, making them great streetfighter candidates! Thanks for checking out the video and good luck with your conversion!

You don't know how helpful this was! I was about ready to sell my ZZR because i thought I was losing my top end after a crash, then i watched your video. I completely forgot about the tube regarding the air/fuel ratio and now my bike is up and running again. THANK YOU!!!!

I'm stoked to hear this. Keep enjoying the ZZR man! Did that tube get disconnected in the crash? I'm curious to know what happened.
@DStar-ql6ds
@DStar-ql6ds 5 жыл бұрын
@@FishStick_ADV It didn't get disconnected, I just forgot that I'd need to adjust the stock tubing for the air/fuel ratio. It was just a small low side but I had to remove all of the front fairings including the front air dam. A buddy of mine said it should be okay because it would be getting enough air through the 2 holes on the side of the frame but we forgot it's all interconnected. Thanks again!

Do i have to do all this to street fight it front end only iv the 02 model my right side faring is damaged side on by a jeep front end not bad just a few crack here and there on the fairing i want to put straight bars on it and the same light as yours or would i be better just with the bars and leave the fairing on i can buy the top yolk bar riser from cnc moto for the straight bars just bolts on over the top yolk thats on the bike easier to do just 4 bolts and new brake lines is all i need be less hassle the air ram thing is putting me off

One question where is this garage and what kind of security do you have LOL Nice bikes I like the street fighter loock of ZZR slick any idea what the weight is with all the body work and stuff gone. Thought of maybe finding one scuffed up doing this and saving on body work and lose some weight. I have always preferred to be happy with the 600 bikes power my biggest issue is todays 600s need to lose 40-50 lbs to be great. Grew up as teen when a 600 yamaha in late 80s early 90s wet was under 400, like 375lbs. I know the zzr is a bit pudgy but stripped down to basics maybe 380 390 wet with its power would be a blast. Buddy did an older zx 7 and stripped it to almost like cafe bike nothing but it needs to run and not get tickets he tossed a lot of stuff to drop weight and it is BIG time difference in performance and flicks into turns like a 125 dirtbike now.

Hi pal, I know this is 4 years old but could I do this to my 93 zzr600? With only the same sort of changes?
@FishStick_ADV

No worries bud! I’m unsure how the 93 is setup. The problem with this particular vintage is the ram air system. It’s designed to run correctly with the ram air setup. When you remove the front fairing and the ram air system, you have to compensate. You may have to do something like this if that model is setup similarly, but I have never messed with the older models. You may not need to do any of this at all. I’m admittedly ignorant on the 93 model.

Weird that your blinkers don't blink without the speedo, mine work fine on my '01 zx6r. Maybe bad relay on yours?
@FishStick_ADV
@FishStick_ADV 4 жыл бұрын
That's interesting to know yours works. What kind of signals are you using? You may be right about the bad relay. If not, I wonder if a fixed rate flasher relay would solve the problem. Or load resistors.
@bodeym

@@FishStick_ADV they're all aftermarket LED with the stock flasher and are working fine, but yeah fixed flashers seem like a good thing to try

The pipe you conneted to the air box will make it worse as the pipe shoud be posative air and the airbox is negative the faster you go more air pushes down the pipe and force more fuel in ak ram air system the indicators wont flash because they need more voltage so a led flasher unit will solve it but but led blubs in the rear done my bike with dominator headlight and aftermarket led speedo took the little air intake from the front and monted them in the frame holes plumb them back the the carbs to improve top end
@FishStick_ADV
@FishStick_ADV 4 жыл бұрын
Paul Wells I get what you’re saying, but I’ve actually ran the bike in both configurations. I started off by just plumbing the tubes up to the frame holes like like you’ve mentioned. Figured I’d try that first since it was easier. That worked to a degree, but it still didn’t run right at speed. Routing the tubes into the airbox made it run correctly for me. But like I said, that was just my experience. You obviously had better luck the other way for whatever reason. You’re right about an led flasher relay, that would have fixed the signals. After switching front to LED the system no longer drew enough current to cause the relay to work correctly. Unfortunately I’ve put the bike back together as it was stock and sold it... If I still had it, I would give some of your thoughts a try! Thanks for taking time to comment!

Where can I get a seat from like that.
@FishStick_ADV
@FishStick_ADV 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dylan, these seats are just the original OEM seats. If you need an OEM seat your best bet is probably eBay or possibly a motorcycle boneyard if there is one near you. They made a lot of them! Seats from the 1998 - 2002 ZX6R or seats from the 2005 - 2008 ZZR600 will work.

I have 2007 that I have done the same with, but slightly different mod for the carbs that seems a bit more straight forward, but essentially accomplishes the same thing. I also noticed you did not block off the air valves on the valve cover, which you might consider. This is not my video but this guy uses the same method I did more or less: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2nZl52FjaZ4hbM

Hey Lee! I appreciate the comment. I wish I could make the adjustments you’ve suggested here, but I no longer have the bike. I rode it as a streetfighter for about a year then ended up putting the body back together. I later sold it in original trim.

@FishStick_ADV
@FishStick_ADV 10 ай бұрын
Oh man! I feel attacked! Lol. Admittedly, this is (almost) precisely my story. I crashed... When I got home, I remembered the work it took to fix it right after a previous accident, and decided to "just get it back on the road." As it turns out, this is nearly as big of a pain as just fixing it correctly. It's just cheaper. I rode it around as a "street fighter" for a season or so before eventually undoing everything and putting fairings back on it. Admittedly, I can confirm that if you get them down as a streetfighter, it seems they hold up remarkably well as long as you have some sliders and such... Anyway, I put fairings back on in an effort to sell it at a reasonable price. The lesson here is, crashing your motorcycle will cost you. Either now in repairs, or later when you sell it. Your choice. BUT if you are planning for multiple crashes, you might leave it as a "street fighter" for a while before putting it back together. 🤣
