Kayak Fishing Slightly Frozen Lake using my new Major Craft Benkei BFS Rod! I am throwing small 1/16 oz jigs and various swimbaits and plastics using the Ark Gravity BFS reel on my new ‪@majorcrafttube‬ Benkei BIC-672L that I have gotten at ‪@baitfinesseempire‬ . Very cold, but the pine waters of Collings Lakes NJ seems to have somewhat active fish going on!

Once again great review! Couldn't decide between the Benkei, Majestic, or another TSU for "power" BFS fishing. Just purchased the 672L and mainly fish for large mouth bass and I'm hoping it will pair nice with my Abu UltraCast BF8, hope it won't disappoint. Thanks for posing!

@@rawrfishing Just curious on your opinion. I currently fish a Currado BFS with .6Goh and 4# leader on a Teton 662L for LM bass and it's my go to setup. Is there a Benkei (multi piece) comparable to the Teton? I want to hand a setup to someone new to BFS and not have the them get wrecked on a fish and / or have them totally dislike BFS. I've landed a 5# and a pulled a 4.5# LM bass through the grass with no problem with the Teton. Your thought and / opinions would be greatly appreciated. 🤙

I would say the Teton vs the Benkei (the ones i got, which both are 2 pieces and both Light) the Benkei would be stiffer. Would they wreck the setup, likely not if you set the drag for em. If you throw lures lighter than 3.5 grams, i don't see any problems with 0.6 gou Anything more, you can step up to 0.8 gou and use 6 to 8lb leader depending on lure/techniques used. Both are great rods! cheers!

It's stiffer than my favorite Tsurinoya Dragon C702L because it's more of a bass rod. So I can't wait to explore it some more! gonna try other fishing rigging and see if it can handle some finesse weedless jigs and also texas rigging of thin plastic lures with thin hooks. lot of playing around this spring!

I've been using the four piece 6'4 UL Major Craft Benkei BiS644UL for a few years with a Shimano Stradic 1000 ci4+ and it's been a great combo for packing light and compactly on the bike and on foot.

How does the Benkei compare to the Shimano Majestic in power and action? IIRC you said the Majestic is closer to a ML.

The Majestic is certainly stiff making it a light plus closer to ML. The Benkei here is definitely lighter than the Majestic. While stiff, it still bends, but not as flexy at the mid section of the dragon c702l. So I will like this rod a lot as it's in between... Or at least I hope! Gonna play with it more

Benkei was my first bait finesse rod from em. So I don't have experience with the older ones. I don't even see it on their website. But I can tell u that it's stiffer than my most used rod, the Tsurinoya Dragon C702L

Jimbo is that the 6ft5in UL or is that the light version? I am still looking for a third rod right now and when I buy a new reel it will be the Gravity. And I am just not sure which rod would better suit crappie fishing.

The light version. The Tsurinoya Dragon would be better, L and UL. It got a better bend for crappies where as benkei be stiffer for bass fishing

Hey Jimbo. I'm finally upgrading from my old Tsurinoya Dark Knight and I'm trying to decide between the Daiwa Salamandura and the new Ark Gravity. Any suggestions?

I have done casting videos for these two reels so I am pretty familiar with them. not sure if you have watched them. but what are you trying to accomplish with the new reel? What rod would you pair it with and what lure weight ranges you are throwing? While both are pretty good all rounders, the ark can go lighter out of the box.

@rawrfishing I've watched the videos you have one both reels! I'm mainly going to be ultralight fishing. I hardly ever through anything heavier than 7grams. It looked like both reels did that pretty well in the videos you have of them. I'll be paring it with a tsurinoya dragon 6ft, and then a jenko double down later on.

If it's UL, the ark will win. but then again i think ark will win regardless how you compare to the SATW for many reasons: Price is huge difference, ark is cheaper Ark goes lower out of the box SATW Spool is heavy, making not able to go too low. They compensated with micro bearings so it can throw lighter lures, but that pigeon holed them to a UL/L area as it's not gonna be good for the heavy lures as it will lose out on some distance in the upper range of BFS when using a ML rod (Do know that i would suggest a larger diameter spool for ML rods anyway) on the side note, didn't jenko stop production of the double down? someone mentioned that to me recently, not sure if it's true.

Thanks man! I'll go with the Ark then once you put it that way. I don't really intend to target anything bigger than crappie and trout, so I'll probably not reach the ML range often. Yeah Jenko did discontinue it unfortunately. I found one for sale on Facebook marketplace in my area which I plan on picking up. Shame since I heard a ton of good things abt it. @@rawrfishing

@@williamtomlin9983 well hot damn! NJ here too! Let me recommend a cheaper rod first that feels more than it is being priced at. The Tsurinoya Dragon C602UL will go down to 1 gram on paper, but it can go lower especially if ur using thin braid and not max out your spool. You can get the rod at Www.baitfinesseempire.com The c662L is rated down to 2 grams and is great for everything from trout fishing to bass fishing. I use a L power for most of my fishing... Like this trip here at Collings Lakes
