Kayak Jump Shooting Geese On The River

Jump shooting geese on the river is always an adventure and this hunt was no exception. With early goose season winding down here in Virginia we headed out to a new stretch of river to see what wildlife we would find. It was a long float but we saw plenty of canadas, woodies, and teal to keep the adrenaline flowing throughout. Unfortunately I made a stupid decision on the last jump shot of the day which left me with some regrets but I'll use it as a learning moment and make sure to avoid that mistake in the future. Hope you enjoy!

Self restraint and patience takes time but experiences like this makes you reflect and learn pretty quickly. Good on you for showing your mistake. That's one of the best things about hunting - some days your quarry might outsmart you, and you must accept it and marvel at nature's ability to do so. It would only take away from the experience if it was easy!

@@HokeOutdoors It has been hard to find steel shot shells this year that is for sure. I think those 1s patterned pretty well out of your gun. I know I use BB for geese typicaly but never have it flat out kill them like those shells you use did and have been wating to try useing 2s to see how they prerform. I know some guys say they have a better pattern out of a choke which helps put the birds down better.

good video, didn’t think your shooting was so cringe worthy, but awesome that you have a high standard for yourself. That’s the way to go.

Thanks Isaiah! It was a good day of shooting overall but that last flock was the part I was really annoyed at myself about

Just make a mush from the fruit and add some salt and a fresh herb of your choice and eat it with your goose as a sort of jam or chutney.

I'm glad to answer any questions you've got and help any way I can but I'm a decent ways west of you unfortunately. I'd check out the delta waterfowl chapter in that area, they would be a great way to start networking with others who hunt down there

How do they not get up earlier? Do they think ur some big trash or do they just not care about boats as much? if I was on land they wud have been gone 100 yards earlier.

My theory is that they see fisherman using these stretches of river during the summer so they become accustomed to seeing kayaks. The fog certainly helps with sneaking up on them too though
