Mine is so similar in design yet some differences i have electric steer with a 4" joystick voltmeter and speed controller permanently fixed to the side hull all the cables have been upgraded to 8 gauge to cover voltage drop. I also mounted a 135 aph lithium inside the hull up front the same as you.I can send some photos if you like.

@TahoeYakFisher6 жыл бұрын
John Lowder Hi John, thanks for the compliments. The pedals are the "tandem rudder module" from Wilderness Systems. I called WS and at first thought I might have to buy the whole rudder kit, WS literally used 'caller ID' to call me back because the rep came across the tandem add on. Hope this helps.

Is the kayak "rudder compatible"? If it is I am sure you could. Also consider where you would store the battery. It was a really fun project but I am a pretty handy guy, consider BassYaks, that guy will sell you a kit or parts of said kit so you can DIY what you like but might be a nice head start. Really it was the BassYaks kit that made me decide that I could figure it out on my own.

Great set up. Questions re your battery and run time. Do you know the weight of each 35ah battery? Is your TM the digital maximizer type? Can you comment on the run time you get with the parallel set up? Finally - how does the weight up front work out for you? Thanks!!!
@TahoeYakFisher6 жыл бұрын
Allan Halls All the right questions, finally. Batteries are 25lbs each, they work fine in the front of the kayak for two reasons; its a 500# capacity and the seat slides back quite a bit to offset the weight. The Wireless Trolling Pro switch is a variable switch so... it has a "low voltage cut off" that I have not experienced with the two batteries, 6+ hours of trolling and running full speed in and out of the marina. Charge times indicate a longer run time is available.

Nice set up... have you had many issues with your lines getting tangled in the trolling motor? I have a NuCanoe Frontier 12 foot with a Minn Kota off the back and especially on windy, wavy days running two rods it can be a real pain. Even sometimes running one rod I get tangled in the trolling motor and as much as I love to fish it can be pretty frustrating. Trying to troll into the wind or with the wind, and not to the side of it, has helped along with no longer making "S" turns to trigger a strike but I just had a bad day yesterday on the water trolling for kokes and am wondering if you have any tips. Cheers
@TahoeYakFisher5 жыл бұрын
I did get my line caught in my motor within a couple trips and have since moved my trolling position to a rod holder mounted to my milk crate behind me. I only troll one line at a time but with it mounted behind me I can turn my boat as sharp as I like making "S" turns. My rod tip is almost behind the motor and 7' off to the side. Hope this is helpful, thanks for watching.

Lloyd Boone Hi Lloyd, thanks for watching... Yes I am a little worried, no it is not water proof. I am actively considering a solution, maybe velcro, maybe some sort of device mount. Right now, my kayak seat has a pouch between my legs that the remote fits in, works great but not totally secure.

Tahoe YakFisher, that's a superb job you've done there! I really like how clean everything is. I have the WS115X and have been looking to put just such an outfit on mine. Do you mind if inquire about the costs minus the aluminum bracket (I have access to lots of aluminum materials) and also.....did you do the change on the shaft of the trolling motor or did you buy it that way? Thanks from the Lonestar State! Greg A.
@TahoeYakFisher5 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg, thanks for the nice comments. Not sure what shaft modifications you speak of? I did remove the stock tiller/ throttle head from the motor/shaft and used a PVC elbow to cap it. But, in short, yes I made all the mods myself. I paid about $110 for the Minn Kota endura C2, $130ish for the Wireless Trolling Pro kit, batteries were about $100 each, the WS rudder pedal kit was about $100 bucks and another $100 in materials like rope and pulleys, cam cleat, stainless hardware. Hope you give it a go, I love mine it performes really well.

Great vid! I’m torn between bow mounting or stern mounting mine. I’m leaning towards bow because of turning on a dime , easy turn , easy stow and quick access if I have issues. Why did you run with a stern mount ?
@TahoeYakFisher3 жыл бұрын
I am trolling for Mackinaw, pretty big fish. They turn the boat around as I fight them but I keep them in front of me, for the most part. I wouldn't want the motor in front for the fish to wrap the line around. I can let the fight run port to starboard around the bow... even when I'm jigging I will switch sides of the boat with drift, getting the line around the bow with a motor in the way would be tough. BTW, mine still turns quick. Also check out my channel, I just put a motor on my new kayak. Thanks for watching and the comments, good luck, let me know if I can help.
@TahoeYakFisher3 жыл бұрын
I think also because of rough water conditions. Tahoe can almost resemble "offshore" conditions and a bow mount might be out of the water a lot in bigger swell.

Very cool install! Do you think there is any advantage to running this setup versus a torqeedo or Bixby system? Thank you in advance for your help!
@TahoeYakFisher5 жыл бұрын
There are two advantages to my kit, in my opinion. First: cost, my kit uses a $100 Minn Kota motor and a $130 PWM from Wireless Trolling Pro and two $90 batteries, this all is the second advantage, parts are readily accessible and cheap though I have not needed to replace anything. Look at Bassyaks also, I would buy his kit and customize it to my needs before I would buy either kit you mentioned. Hope this helps, let me know if I can answer any other questions.

Minn Kota doesn't talk about these parts as they want you to purchase a kayak prebuilt with a Minn Kota motor but the parts you want are the replacements for their "engine mount" motors.

As far as the bracket goes I didn't video the fabrication but it would be a little different for different models. Mine is 3/16 aluminum sheet and 1.5×1.5 square tube welded into a 3×1.5, the seam in the middle keeps the motor clamp from crushing the box. I watched a bunch of vids and combined everything I liked, one company worth checking out is Bass Yaks, pretty well thought out kit but he likes bigger motors. Hope this helps.

If you wire 2 battery's in parallel for 24vdc. And hook up your 12vdc trolling moter to the 24vdc pack you will get double Rpms. But less moter life!. See you tube vids on 24v power wheels kid cars. If you need more run time amp hours wire 4 battery's in series parallel.
@TahoeYakFisher5 жыл бұрын
Two 12 volt batteries wired in parallel is going to remain 12 volts... I believe you mean wire them in "series" which would produce a 24 volt battery but understand this, two 12volt 35ah batteries wired in parallel produce a 12volt 70ah battery while the same two batteries wired in series produce a 24volt 35ah battery. This would be counterproductive for my application, I am, mostly, trolling which means I want to go slow for as long as possible, I don't need power, I need amp hours. Thanks for watching.

Speaking from experience battery in the front kinda sucks. The bow sinks lower and you plow water instead of gliding on top of it. Also when you run out of battery it makes paddling a bitch. I was using a 110 agm that weighed a lot more than your two batteries though so maybe you won't have as big of a problem with it.

Jack Gold Not long, get a good deep cycle battery. It will last for hours and hours. @TahoeYakFisher6 жыл бұрын
J J Hi JJ, the plug will do 2 or 3 wire applications. I only used 2, red and black or positive and negative. I am pretty sure on mine the #1 position is negative and the #2 position is red or positive. Hope this helps.

What keeps the motor from rising when moving forward?
@TahoeYakFisher3 жыл бұрын
The steering lines and your feet on the pedals... it works really well. The steering lines have to be below the pivot for this to work but I sold this one and built a new one with a bigger motor(46lb.) and it works great on that boat too.

@@censoredbyyoutube3099 I don't know where you are headed or with what kayak but please check out my channel and my newest vids on my Wilderness Systems Recon. It is pretty similar, with the bigger motor and a speed control that I am selling. I am stoked on my new kayak, the 46lb is Awesome, steady 4.2mph. I am more confident in my speed control as well.
