Break in day for my new 2020 Suzuki 2.5 paired up with my Old Town Topwater 120. Motor ran smoothly and started up first pull on every attempt. I assume six (mph) is an accurate average speed for this set up. There is very little difference in speed upwards from half throttle. I am more than happy with the way everything went and should have another video out soon!

you can get a rod, with a small bend in it.. for gear shifting .. push it back to neutral, forward put it in gear.. the example would be on the jonny bass website

Thank you so much for the u-joint tiller extension. I was wondering how to rig it up. I just ordered it from Amazon.👍

The only issue I had with the tiller extension is when I throttle up and the effects of torque make it harder to turn. If I need to turn sharply I have to throttle down.

What’s the general draft with the outboard? Awesome setup. River fishing for me but being able to run a few miles up river for a nice drift: that’s the ticket.
@benpeel5589
@benpeel5589 11 ай бұрын
It sits a good 4 inches below the hull, how shallow you can run depends on your weight though. I can idle through one foot but running at least two. It’s a really fun way to cover more ground but is not near as effective for stationary fishing compared to a trolling motor.

I would like to know how many km or miles you travel on a full tank of the engine you have? where did you get the engine mount? Thank you
@benpeel5589
@benpeel5589 7 ай бұрын
Roughly can run 10miles on one tank. I made the mount with salt treated wood and used large metal washers to disperse the stress on the hull.

Was it worth it? I am looking for more speed from a 2.5 outboard on my tandem kayak, know your said it does the job on power
@benpeel5589
@benpeel5589 2 жыл бұрын
It does the job and the efficiency is great! I’m sure this motor could get a flat bottom kayak almost on plane. Just make sure the transom is very durable. The constant torque can really mess up plastic if mounted improperly.

I got the 2.5 Suzuki 6 months ago and its solid dependable and super economical to run. That said, I have a 1991 Johnson 2-stroke (2cyl) and it runs circles around the Suzuki and weighs about the same and isn't any louder. Less than half the distance on the same amount of gas as the Suzuki plus you need to mix the gas. I'm keeping both motors and will use them for different types of trips. For what is available, the Suzuki seems to be the best. The air-cooled alternatives are much louder and ruin the moment.

What kind of bracket did u use for the engine I have a sportsman 120
@benpeel5589
@benpeel5589 2 жыл бұрын
No brackets, just wood on wood but used large washers and scrap metal on the inside of hull to spread the stress on the plastic. Had to create a hatch to access the rear but I’m not sure if the sportsman has a rear hatch already.

Hey Ben I like your set up with the with that motor do you have a video on how you put it together and question are you going to replace the block wood to aluminum plates also can you show where you got the u join I would appreciate it 😊
@benpeel5589
@benpeel5589 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! The link to the U joint should be in the description. I haven’t made a walkthrough video yet but I may soon. The wood however is holding strong so I’ll be sticking with it but an aluminum plate wouldn’t be bad for a future build.

How is it controlling the throttle using the Ujoint ?
@benpeel5589
@benpeel5589 2 жыл бұрын
It works well. The only problem with the extended tiller is the force needed to turn the motor at a higher RPM is much greater. I can make gradual turns at half throttle and above but need to throttle down to make sharper turns.

Dude your video is pretty confusing but you do realize that A KILLSWITCH IS SUPPOSED TO BE HOOKED TO YOUR BODY RIGHT? THE KILLSWITCH IS USED TO KILL THE MOTOR IF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS. LIKE SAY YOU FALL OUT OF THE BOAT. YOUR KILLSWITCH WILL PULL OUT OF THE MOTOR TURNING IT OFF. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO EXPLAIN ABOUT YOUR KILLSWITCH. ALSO HAVING A KILLSWITCH ON THE TROLLING MOTOR IMO IS USELESS
