First episode of what I hope becomes a web series, in which I will attempt to visit fellow kayakers around the world in their local paddling spots. For this one, I visited Daniel Mendoza in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, and we went exploring in the Sumidero Canyon in Chiapas.
Along for the adventure were local friend and triathlete Danny Guillen and Mayan Seas owner and designer Rafael Mier.
Daniel Mendoza:
@seakayak_mexico - / seakayak_mexico
Danny Guillen:

Jorge R Gonzalez Photography gracias!

Incredible scenery man! Kinda reminded me of that paddle scene from Lord of the Rings, with those massive statues towering over the water LOL. Great capture of video and cant wait to see more from Mexico. You are always welcome to come to Sweden for some paddling in the great wilderness and the western archipelago. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, that was awesome and insane at the same time! How many miles and hours did you paddle to get to camp? Nice! What were the temps? The air and water? 900ft deep? I can't even imagine.
@KayakHipster
@KayakHipster 7 жыл бұрын
Dachdog it was a short distance, around 11-12 miles. We took a long time though because of headwind in the start of the canyon, and then we stopped all the time to take photos. It was astonishing. Air temps were hot, especially when the sun hit you. Water temps were pleasant. If we had capsized it would have been completely fine. The only problem was the possibility of crocs...

hola!!!! can you tell me where you put in? where you camped? and how long was the trip? did you need special permits? we are planning this trip in 2 weeks but there's not a lot of info for paddlers.....also, is it possible to do an out and back trip - is the water flat enough? thank you !!

How was you guys trip? I’m considering doing the same, but I’m reading that you can’t camp? How was kayaking? Looks beautiful down there. I’m wanting to kayak camp as well.
@cassiebare
@cassiebare 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeffsmithfpv hey ! First there’s no place to camp and often the locals will not allow it. There are also crocodiles that you do not want to be camping with. The actual kayaking area is about 7 km there and then 7 back.
