I figured out the easy and best way to throw a cast net after watching a lot of videos and got some throwing cast net instructions from a few guides. The result is the easy way to throw a cast net whether you throw a small cast net or a 6-foot cast net. Watch for the critical discussion of where to position your hands on the net. Learn this and save a bundle - never buy bait again!

In addition, a wading staff will help you keep your balance as you walk on the shoreline or wade.

Glad you got it figured out. If you want to become even more effective, now try disregarding your loading process. Go to the bare minimum which is grabbing the net only mid-way without holding the horn. It is pretty much unnecessary on a small net. Just do one grab of the lead line (one section) and loop over your hand holding the net. After that do as you are doing. Basically load and throw it like the instructions that come with the net. The thing that people aren't able to grasp is the part that you provide excellent instruction for which is the release. The mechanics is what foils most people and causes them to try the 100 different styles that are on youtube. Then they randomly do it once correctly and it clicks. The thought it is the loading is what caused the good throw, but it actually is the mechanics that causes the net to open (for a smaller net). With the basic mechanics, all the different loading methods will work. The reason why stripping the loading to the bare minimum is the ability to reload quickly and be able to throw again rapidly which is important when using a smaller circumference net as well as chasing fast moving targets like Mullet. This is also important for cast netting on kayaks and tight quarters. Your video is one of a very few that actually will help people "get it". Good job.

I have thrown a cast net for many years, using the line in mouth method. Last week, I wanted to catch some live bait, but the water looked absolutely nasty. I said that it was time to learn a new method. After looking at many videos and trying each style, I came to your page and found your instructions. First time, a perfect throw, second time, a perfect throw. Great instructions, I found my new style. Thanks

I've been following this channel for more than two years now, its arguably the best kayak fishing channel on the Tube. I follow a lot of channels but this one is like a Live Magazine. Most of the things you cover seem to follow that type of content and have that kind of informative nature. You've covered just about everything that we kayakers go thru& some things we've never known or thought of, which has saved me lots of headaches, not to mention the cash I've saved. I even made a video inspired by one of your anchor safety videos ....with your idea I've gotten a ton of views and plenty of questions and feedback. ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGncmZJ9pdhmnZo ) I'd never had this much attention on my channel until then. Please keep these videos coming to us Sir. I wished I still lived in the Dover Delaware - Aberdeen Maryland area I'd love to wet a line with ya' and kick that kayak jargin in person. Houston Texas

I've been trying to get this cast net thing down for quite a while. When I couldn't get a good throw on the 6foot net I thought it'd be a good idea to try a 4' net which I quickly found out didn't make a difference, it's all in the "spin" as you describe. I also use my net in the surf which required me to get a little heavier net. Which also didn't change the fact that it's all in the proper hand to hand set up (very important) and the technique of the throw. Thanks for sharing this breakdown. It's has greatly improved my throw, and I've shared it to a few of my buddies.

+BloodSweatnBassOutside Thanks! As somebody new to brackish water fishing when I moved to the coast in 2013, it was a long haul to finally figure this out. I feel your pain! Who wants to pay 5 bucks a dozen for mullet when you can net 'em!
@BloodSweatnBass
@BloodSweatnBass 8 жыл бұрын
+Kayak Hacks Fishing I've just moved near Galveston, TX and the mullet are a few bucks more, so I've never actually used live bait only dead and artificial baits. Also when I started to practice the cast net throw I did it on grass which turned out to be a bad idea in my case because the lawn had lots of little branches which I was told would weaken the net over time . I guess because I would pull them threw the net holes. But anyways just thought another reader could learn from that.

Great video, I've looked at buying that very same net. Do you find that the colors on it camouflage the net so that it spooks fish less often as advertised? I am not convinced from just reading the package.
@KayakhacksFishing
@KayakhacksFishing 8 жыл бұрын
+Kayak Chris Nah... this is close combat. No need for the camo since the net is on them before they can scatter much. However, I did find the colors useful in making sure I gripped the net in the exact same place to establish the "muscle memory." Kind of like a golf swing... need to do it the same way each time once you figure out the right way! I got the camo since it was the only thing in stock and I needed the larger net.

I bought a 10 foot 14 1/2 pound net for my small 13 year old son. This method won't work on such a heavy net without wearing your arm out. The casting video I posted will work for larger nets without getting your upper body soaked and saves you from a sore back from repeated frequent throws. My son learned the method in about 5 minutes and now throws a 10 foot heavy net like a champ. Check it out if you have a large net. Catch more dinner plate sized fish.

@zash008
@zash008 7 жыл бұрын
+mark turner possibly but the large net I bought has lead inside the bottom perimeter rope and ALSO lead weights incasing the perimeter rope thus making this net pretty heavy. That being said, if I plan on throwing the net alot then this method wouldn't work because it'll tire the back and arms out too quickly. The heavy nets are best thrown when splitting the weight between the to arms and throwing that way or in short order the person tossing would tire out to quickly
@KayakhacksFishing
@KayakhacksFishing 7 жыл бұрын
I agree with Michael's comment. However, from talking to guides, they tell me all you need to do is take two folds instead of one and then throw the same way. It would be worth a try, but there are probably techniques better tailored for big nets. For my purposes of just getting bait for a single fishing trip, the 6 footer is big enough :-)
