Thanks a lot for showing this to me. That made my day. It's exactly what I wanted to do in 2003. Not only this 50 km. I thought of starting from Mahiyanganaya. I came down all the Mahaweli Ganga from Horton Plains (by walk) to Mahiyanganaya and tried to find someone with a boat to hire. Unfortunately, there was no one to find. Even local authorities couldn't help us. So we walked on to Polonnaruwa and Somawathie. Staying a night in the police bungalow. Elephants were roaming around at night. And lots of mosquitoes there. There was no guide to find to take us through the riverbanks. No mobile phone, no online maps to show the trodden pathes. So we had to hike through the wilderness to Megaswewa, Sooriyapura, and the bridge from where you started your adventurous kayaking. In 2003, the northern part after the bridge wasn't much safe, so we had to make a detour to Mutur and took a boat to the end of the Mahaweli Ganga. My best memories were with all the lovely and friendly farmers and fishersmen I met alongside he Ganga.

Shennelle you always manage to surprise me with completely new facts about sri lanka. I never knew this area even existed as it looks almost unspoiled. I hope there is no new developments with this government as money is not everything
