The McMahon family owes Bruno's family a debt that they can never repay because quite likely, without Bruno, there would be no WWE today!

Bruno is a legend, and a man's man. One of the most respected wrestlers of all-time. Even Mike Tyson idolized him! He was almost a God in the Northeast during the 60's/70's.

Bruno tells a story about dining in NYC after a Garden match. Carlo Gambino was there and wanted to meet Bruno. He went on to tell the champion what a fine example he set for Italian-Americans. Everybody loved Bruno. They still do.

Most impressive thing about Bruno truly is his memory.....like a steel trap. Talking about things more than FIFTY YEARS AGO and remembers incredible detail. You just don't get the sense that he's simply making it up (as a lot of wrestlers do).

crassyfrake Deep respect to the wild man The Iron Sheik for coming to Bruno’s aid in that incident. Bruno wasn’t even fighting on the card that day, he was managing the locker room and would’ve been wearing civilian clothes. Epic story!

The history of Pro Wrestling has always fascinated me. My friends and I always had a lot of fun watching the WWWF on TV and going to The Spectrum on Saturdays. Coming across these trailers brought back so many fun memories for me that I had to order The Bruno DVD. I received it in the mail three days later . I enjoyed every minute of this great interview. Entertaining as well as informative. Bruno is a great storyteller. Kayfabe did a wonderful job with this series. Thank you.

I could listen to Bruno all day long. What a class act and real gentleman. When Bruno speaks of the old days I feel like I’m getting the TRUE story. In this interview he could’ve let the interviewer’s claim about Jilly Rizzo actually pulling a gun on Fred Blassie go by without clarification - certainly it makes for a better story. But no: while agreeing that Jilly was mad as hell at Blassie, Bruno points out there was no gun involved and I tend to believe him. I wonder why Bruno didn’t like Antonio Inoki? Of all pro wrestlers I’ve ever known of - and as someone who’s longtime favorite wrestler is Chief Jay Strongbow - there’s NO ONE who comes closer to being a first-class man than BRUNO SAMMARTINO. Rest In Peace, my paisan. You are a credit to Italian-Americans everywhere.

In a tag team match Inoki tried to shoot on him with a submission hold that Brino said Inoki really turned up the pressure. Realizing this Bruno powered out of it, countered with a side headlock that gave Inoki a bloody nose. Inoki never got back in the ring, and let the other three finish it.

Re : Complaining, Old Dinosaurs Whatever ytou think of him, the man sticks by his convictions. He is correct about most of the stuff he talks about. If he was active today, he could beat these alcoholic , steroids freaks. The man was amazing. Some of you folks make comments that show your true mentality. The man met me, when I was 14. He stopped what he was doing and gave me an autograph. He truly cared about his fans. You think people go crazy for Steve Austin, John FCena ? Nothing compared to the reactions Bruno received. The last comment I saw ,was indeed athetic.

Wow ... Just wow. I have no comeback for that. I can't think of a single source on the interwebz that could dispute your logic. So, yes. Bruno Sammartino won the WWWF title from Buddy Rogers at the St. Johns Arena in Steubenville, Ohio in front of perhaps 400 fans, and not Madison Square Garden, which I've always foolishly believed.

He was talking to my 13 year old son and asked him if he had a sister, and then asked "Is she a teenager? (she is 15) I'd really enjoy talking to her if you can get her on", then asked her name and if she has a KZbin channel and said "I think Im ur neighbor, where did u say u guys live again?" My son told my wife and I, and I tried to talk to him but hes blocked us.

He's not saying Thesz didn't still have it. He's saying that by this time Thesz could not take him in a legitimate shoot. Sammartino is in his 20's in the 1960's holding the worlds bench press record and weighing 285 lbs. In the end Bruno went along with the script and let Thesz win the match, but in reality Sammartino would have torn Lou a new asshole. Remember Sammartino was a legitimate wrestler. Not as gifted as Thesz but the age and strength would have made all the difference.

This is just a guess. As far as I know, when Bruno wrestled in the JWA, he faced Inoki in a tag match. Inoki, being a student of Karl Gotch, tried to shoot on him and Bruno overpowered him.

Inoki tried to shoot on him in a tag match. Bruno said that he recognized the submission hold right away and when Inoki turned up the pressure he powered out of it, Sammartino then put a side headlock on Inoki that bloodied Inoki's nose. Inoki never got back in the ring. He let the other three wrestlers finish the match.

You are looking at revenge matches in Madison Square Garden. These are matches held after 3 or 4 months of draws, count outs, and disqualifications. This is the way they did it then. This culminated in an ass kicking by Sammartino punching and kicking the shit out of this rule breaker. After this match the heel would leave the territory and not return for 2-3 years where they would start the series all over again. If you want to see Sammartino wrestle look at him against Volkoff, Giant Baba, Ivan Koloff, or Spiros Arion. There is Sammartino the grappler.

MrMferg240 i'm glad your sticking up for Bruno.. like I said I respect Bruno . I thought his matches in st. Louis were very good, against Harley race, big bill miller, rip hawk, and two awesome bouts with dick Murdock.. but Bruno, was not the wrestler , lou thesz was...he was a hooker, and shooter, that was train by the best... but like sam muchnick said , he would have no problem putting the n.w.a belt on Bruno... but Bruno, didn't want to wrestle a 250-300 matches a year that the nwa champion did.. as far as Bruno vs inoki , no contest Bruno, would crush him... allways glad to chat with real wrestling fans

larry floyd and I have tons of respect for thesz, I know he trained military soldiers and was a great wrestler. but Bruno was a different animal then anyone lou would have faced in a real fight.i'm not just talking power either. Bruno took the best shots on the chin from sonny listen who was one of the hardest hitting pro boxers ever and they didn't even phase Bruno.matter of fact listons trainers tried to persuade Bruno from wrestling and go into boxing because they were so impressed with his ability to take those shots and keep coming.

+The Shredder Lulz no. That's like saying Mark Henry could take out Brock Lesnar in a real fight. Bruno was tough and knew how to throw down, but Lou was a legit hooker and knew how to hurt people with minimal effort. Plus Lou himself was not exactly a weakling either.
