For those interested in Hoya: I have both of the Hoyas mentioned (krimson queen and krimson princess) and they are both SO easy to care for! Krimson princess is a little bit easier to get in big box stores in my experience. Another good one to look for online is Hoya australis lisa! Little pricier but grows well and propagates super easy

In Finland hoyas are pretty expensive, so that's why I haven't bought one. However almost every plant nursery has hoyas

Good to see you back! Fyi Tineke variegation will turn pink if sun stressed, but also, if you do have it and it's turning pink, you can bring the cream back if you do a peroxide flush (1:3 diluted). I have no idea why :) I did the flush after I overwatered mine, to fight the possible root rot, and the plant turned cream even though it was in the same spot and before it was very sun stressed. Just a fun fact. About pothos - the prettiest one, in my opinion, is glacier. It's quite rare but still inexpensive, it grows like n'joy but the variegation is layered so it is not as sharp. It's a bit like Tineke - you get patches of pure white and "mint" where only one layer of the cells is mutated - quite pretty. I wish you mentioned the variegated English ivy, I know you don't like it but I think if you tried it again you would find its bad fame vastly exaggerated. It's not much more pests prone that any velvet philodendron or alocasia :)
@TamaraMcRill3 жыл бұрын
🤯 Maybe that's why one of my tinekes turned cream! I did use peroxide on it. Totally agree that the glacier is the prettiest.

Tradescantia seems quite underrated in my opinion so im glad you mentioned it! Im surprised that the pink/varigated plant craze didnt lead to their greater popularity despite the fact that theres so many varigated colors of it available, from dark burgundy and lilac to pink and creamy white. My favourite is the zebrina which has an irridescence similar to jewel orchids, its leaves look stunning in sunlight. If you like the tricolor, you might also like the "nanouk" and "lilac" varieties which have similar colors but have larger and plumper leaves compared to tricolor.

They're so beautiful, but somehow I killed the ones I got so far. Don't know what the trick is. They always came in a medium that stayed wet forever, so to prevent rotting, I gave them a repot with a well-draining mix, and THEN they rotted away. I think those delicate roots just didn't take it. I'm so frustrated to watch the tricolor die.

Welcome back I did miss my leisurely Saturday breakfast viewing, but I hope you had a good break. *TRADESCANTIN TRICOLOUR TIPS* I have one of these plants and to make it pink it needs full sun. When I first got it I put it in a hanging basket about 2 meters back from the window and it rotted and lost all the pink, so I propagated it with a cutting in water, about a week later it had roots so very easy to prop. I put it on a north window seal (Australian) so full force sun in the summer and it grows like wildfire, the variegation is first pink and fades to white and if the leaf passes the full sun point will go green. *WHITE FUSION TIPS* I've owned three and only 1 has survived and I've also had friends with similar stories. once all the leaves have crisped bc they prob will cut it all off bar the greenest leaves and in general, they will grow back and be much more resilient. I'm going on two years with my regrown plant and it looks fantastic.

Philodendron Birkins revert to a Rojo Congo, the newer leaves will start coming in blotchy... The variegation can come out really strong with bright light, but I've never seen one go back to the Birkin look once they've reverted. My smaller Philo Brazil , with bright light has turned fully neon yellow and when it gets less light the newer growth comes in with the typical look again. Highly recommend putting a pothos on a totem and watching the leaves get bigger and bigger!!!

Completely agree except I had a Birkin - Rio Congo issue. Bought it at Trader Joe’s a year ago - as a Birkin and saw that it was about to revert. Chopped and separated it. I now have two clear distinct plants - a Rio Congo and a Birkin. I’m only a year into it but I think it worked

@brianaalee12 жыл бұрын
@@erinjoy5625 did it have yellow spots already, or are they a new development? Irregular watering can cause yellow spots on philodendron leaves but so can pests if pests are having a little snack. 🤮 Check the leaves for pests and treat if necessary. Otherwise yellow spotting from watering is normal, many of my philos have them and it doesn't affect them at all.

Oh Kaylee - now you're talking my language! I bought my Tineke at the local Canadian Tire! Easy grower and pretty rewarding. As for variegated Pothos, my Pearls & Jade Pothos isn't as quick a grower as I would like, but it's not finicky. I love Philodendron "Brazil" - beautiful two-tone green, so it grows like crazy. And my White Fusion (also from Canadian Tire so very inexpensive) did so well for so long and then.... Sigh. We had a very very hot and dry summer and so the household humidity was probably much too low for it and it seriously crisped up. It looked so terrible that I gave up and cut off all the grotty leaves. Probably a mistake because it's only managed to push out one leaf in the last few weeks (now that we're in the rainy season). It's a beautiful leaf.... but looks so lonely. I would probably buy this plant again just because it was so beautiful for so long. I really like your analyses of each plant.
@jaywright5143 жыл бұрын
As far as I know there are two types of variegated Ficus elastica, the "Tienke" and "Ruby" both grow in pink/red and the intensity depends on light. My Ruby stays pinkish red for several months and eventually is a pinkish brown, and my Tienke stays red for about 2 months or so. The more intense the light the more intense the red. Also I got a Birkin in March 2019 and think they are a lot like Florida ghost that new growth greens up with time. I am still getting nearly white new leaves that fade to barely lighter green streaks on the main plant and the tip cutting propagation, but only about a third of the pups have the distinctive stripes, the rest have come in as Red Congo. I did keep a reverted pup and even after a year it has not shown any white. I have noticed that direct light makes them green much faster and darker but in too low of light the new leaves start out greener. It's like bright indirect light means they don't worry about how green they are but too bright and they put on green sunscreen.

Hoya Crimson Queen got the crown on its head (outer variegation) while the Crimson Princess got the variegation in the middle of the leaf. Tricolor and Rubra are alt names of the Princess. The Queen is more expensive. Also, the Ctenanthe pilosa "Magic Mosaic" is a good plant. Nice variegation, extremely cheap (got mine for 6 € in a garden centre), are a Calathea but not as fuzzy.

I've noticed Philodendron Burle Marx going up here in the US too! And only over the past couple months. I got a decent sized variegated one for like $70 and a huge plant that's mostly reverted but does have some good variegated stems/leaves here and there for like $30. Got both in the summer, and now I'm seeing similar sized fully variegated plants selling for $150-$200. I wonder if its cuz the variegated Billietiae got popular but most can't afford it? So they're "settling" for the Burle Marx, which honestly has the same pattern of variegation imo.

I have most of the plants on this list, including the white fusion. I’m in Canada, and these are readily available at local greenhouses. You probably won’t see them at the hardware store though. And they aren’t very expensive, probably $20 Canadian. I’ve had mine for a few years, and it’s picky, but I think the medallion is way worse! They grow really quickly, so even if every leaf dies, don’t toss it, it’ll come back. Mines pretty big now, I’m very proud of it 😂

I wouldn’t call my white fusion “hard” but it is SUPER fussy. Sometimes it’ll just drop all its leaves and appear dead. Then it comes back strong and is so beautiful I could cry. Sometimes it’ll decide to put out a bunch of tiny leaves sometimes a bunch of big ones. The plant does better for me if I just leave it alone, admire it from across the room and not water it as much. It must be the medium I have it in but I water it every 3-4 weeks. Also, +1 on the Syngonium Albo!

As a Prayer Planters, calathea White Fusion is easier for me than Fusion White. Yes, you hear it right. White Fusion (or we call it White Tiger) is a cultivar/varieties from calathea Albertii. Meanwhile FW is from calathea Lietzei. Both have almost similar variegation but difference by their stem growth, by their leaf size (FW leaf smaller than WF no matter how long you take care of them) and other things. If you see in the nursery this fusion-like calathea that has larger, elongated leaf, that's probably WF not FW. Both of them are not hardy, like Kaylee said. If you are a beginner and eager to be a PP collector esp calathea sp, both of these are not recommended for you. They are both diva plant, seriously. But it's worth trying to learn to grow these fusions as long as you hv very much interest to learn (by killing them first lol) & you hv big bucks. Love from Malaysia ❤

I think you missed Spathiphyllum Diamond, I see it quite a lot now and it usually only goes for only 10-20 euro. There's also the Variegated Spathiphyllum Sensation which is considerably more difficult to find, but surprisingly affordable considering how good it looks.

White fusions are super cheap in the pnw area of the us at least! I can find them for like $15 usually and I don’t find them the easiest plant in the world but I keep it in my greenhouse w not the best humidity and it does relatively well

Answering your question in regards to the Calathea White Fusion prices in the USA. Most places that I have seen have been selling them between $35-45.00 usd. This is usually for a 4 inch pot. :)

I have a tricolour and the only way to reduce the green and bring out the pink is to cut back the stems growing all green leaves. I cut mine back to only the variegated leaves and it then has that look

That White Fusion.......I had mine literally in a WET bubble. I mean like soaking wet soil and placed it in a glass dome with no air circulation under bright light, and that is the only way I've been able to have one thriving in my care. It goes against all plant care rules, but this guy doesn't play by them apparently 🤣

so something like my Japanese painted fern? The ONLY way to keep it alive is to have it standing constantly in an inch of water. I killed several before giving up all my preconceptions and finally it's growing beautiful. I might try Calathea white fusion now, maybe I'm ready, thanks for the tip! :)

Just found a Birken for $10 at local Walmart 4” pot. Always wanted one, but wasn’t paying what they were asking years ago. See how it does variegation wise🙂.

Here in the U.S the calathea white fusion goes from anywhere between $10 to $50 depending on the size, seller, etc.

I’m sorry I know you’re trying to explain variation but explaining it in reference to the marble queen in the end Joy just doesn’t make any sense to say that the android grows slower because it has more variation and while I totally understand this concept maybe you should use a different reference picture then because from the picture you’re showing it most definitely looks like the marble queen has a lot more variegation than the njoy in the photo you have used

*knock on wood* my white fusion gives me no problem at all, but I put it in a glass cabinet and in a self watering pot with grow lights and ignore it besides making sure it doesn't have pests and filling the water reservoir and it just grows and grows. I am starting to get a little concerned about the leaves coming with more and more white, I think the lights are too bright. Even before moving it to those conditions I had it in my bathroom and it loved being there, but it's a west facing window and when the temperatures started to climb I decided to move it to avoid burning the leaves. I just wish it would flower, I see them in garden centers looking like absolute shit but full of flowers and I wish mine would flower.

I've heard that plants will often flower if very stressed, something like a last chance to spread your genes before death. So those store plants might be flowering for all wrong reasons :(
@beccasaurus903 жыл бұрын
@@horace6851 yeah, I thought of that possibility. that mine just didn't flower because maybe it didn't feel the need to propagate, but houseplants also flower when they have perfect conditions 🤷🏼♀️

So i have a few things to say for once... I bought burle marx and it was a beautiful variegated leaf but it reverted and now it's all green. and I paid $150 (Australian dollars) for it. I cried a lot because it's a lot of money for me and for a reverted plant. So buy it at your own risk. I probably won't try again. Tradescantia is not easy in my opinion... mine keeps growing leggy and loosing leaves... i have a lot of different varieties of tradescantia and the easiest one is sillamontana variegated. I have nanouk that is really slow to grow, blushing bride that lost the pink and just looks weird now... tricolour, don't even get me started. Tradescantia can be tricky, that's all I'll say. One more plant I want to mention, calathea white fusion, I never had it but I have a lot of other varieties of calatheas. I have thai beauty calathea and it's like white fusion but green variegation. It's really easy but it had spider mites when I bought it... it completely died but it came back!!! calatheas can be annoying, the most annoying one in my experience is zebrina... anyways that's it from me :)

Hey Kaylee, love your vids. I thought the Silver Satin Pothos/ Silvery Anne etc were Scindapsus not Pothos....am I wrong? I would like clarification since the care is slightly different. Would love to know...thanks😀

I got my 4" White Fusion at a local nursery in Columbus, Ohio last January for $14.99. Not too bad! I genuinely have no clue how it's still alive. I left it in the nursery pot, which is mostly coir. Maybe that's why?
