Why I Love My Birkin: There's something about the way the leaves come in super light and then fade to a dark green that makes it look like it's glowing from the inside out. Especially the way the striping kinda fades last. I like to keep mine about waist level so I can appreciate it from above.
@lindseysgreencanvas3 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I keep it on a dresser next to the window, I love the way the sun backlights the variegation. But I did wait till I found a huge specimen for $20, 3 nice sized plants in the 6 in pot. And it came with a beautiful ceramic pot that made it even more worth it

The “special” thing about Gabby’s is that they were cultivated by Gabriella’s plants over years to make the extremely high variegation stable. Since it’s only truly a Gabby when sold from Gabriella’s plants, I think there’s this exclusively factor some people are attracted to. Gabriella’s sells them for a high price, and when they’re released, to my understanding, they get sold out so fast, that it’s so hard to get your hands on. So when someone resells them, they can sell them for even higher because they’re so hard to get, and resellers are usually expected to have proof that it’s from Gabriella’s plants. I’ve seen people post pictures of their highly variegated brazil/rio/cream splash and claim it’s basically a Gabby and then get dog-piled because it’s only a Gabby if it’s from Gabriella’s plants because they cultivated it to apparently be more stable. Yet some people think it just is a high variegate and anyone could grow a gabby and Gabriella’s just gave it a name and sold them as that first and claimed it as theirs. Personally, I think they’re beautiful but jot worth the price at all. I’d rather take my chances trying to sun stress a brazil/rio/cream splash.
@johnjhill33 жыл бұрын
I LOVE Gabriella's!!! I've gotten six or more babies from them, most which I have never seen elsewhere. They have a Kalanchoe that could star in a Monster Movie, with spiky leaves and runners stretching out with babies ready to root wherever they land!
@zaksaintm28023 жыл бұрын
this is a very good explanation. THE BIGGEST difference in these and cream/silver splash phil. are that they are solely from Gabriella Plants, and their variegation is said to be completely stable, in that it WILL NOT revert to a brazil look, while each leaf does have a different coloration because ... nature ... these will keep brighter variegation and you can keep them in a bit lower light without worrying that they will revert.
@nancyma13323 жыл бұрын
yup! that's it. The variegation should be stable. They are also expensive since they are SUCH SLOW growers I have 2 gabbys and wow... so so slow.
@allthingstealee3 жыл бұрын
@@nancyma1332 I didn’t know that! That makes me feel better about not buying one 😅
@kanke21473 жыл бұрын
100% agree with everything you said. I think what Gabriella's selling for a Gabby is adequate, given the time and effort and how stable they are, plus the exclusivity factor. I also agree with you on that personally I just won't pay for that much money for something so similar to a cream splash. If you couldn't tell the difference until you set them side-by-side then it just doesn't worth the price inflation for me

The Mint Monstera deserves some clarity… I agree with everything about people selling TONS of regular monstera albo (especially on Ebay) as “Mint Monstera” when it very much isn’t - and buyers need to be aware of that. However, there is a true Mint Monstera NOID. The plant was discovered (I think in the 70s) by an OG collector - Barry Schwartz. It’s very much stable and different than any other variegated monstera I’ve owned. The leaves are thick and waxy which makes it super hardy and probably my easiest to grow monstera. It also grows faster than other variegates. It doesn’t burn as easily and often throws out fully white leaves that you think mean it’s reverting but a few months later this faint green veining comes in as the final chloroplast layer hardens. Its a NOID which has a leaf structure more like a small form monstera (previously named Borsigiana) and doesn’t have the ruffle but also has a short internode length and the leaves get large faster. It also has a deeper fenestration from what I can tell. The patterned, veiny characteristic “mint” looks almost like it was color pencil shaded on and it doesn’t revert. It’s incredible and I think if you owned one you’d change your mind! Sexually attracted for sure! Haha That said, there are large form monstera sports that randomly have the same “minty” chimera variegation which aren’t stable and have a completely different leaf shape and grow pattern. But the Mint NOID is genuinely super rare. I’ve discussed with a few of the more seasoned plant classification sticklers and they unanimously agree it’s a true varietal. However, what does suck is “mint” has become such a buzzword (“sport” is starting to be the same) and is really used to superficially drive up price. If you’re looking for one of these always ask for photos of the mother plant and try to find out where it was originally sourced. :)

This is off topic for your video and I'm not expecting you to make a video for me or go into great detail unless you want too!!! I have a greenhouse and im working on converting to leca just bought 50 pounds worth for my 200+ philodendrons, monstera, anthuriums, aroids! I see your warehouse, lights, plants, cambro's ect. what nutrients do you feed your leca thriving inventory!! amazon references please and how often do you switch between just r/o water filling and then fertilizer feeding. I'm fairly certain your using micro nutrients for hydroponics but I don't know where to start!! also references for the pots you use in your system clear right? 4 -6 inch? fill cambro's with one and half inches - 2 inches of water when it runs low? or keep it constant one and a half -2 inches full all the time? do you let your plants drain the water before refilling? Also what methods do you use for bug bombs? mites aphids and thrips! I have a bunch of organic and non organic pesticides/ remedy's but one of your latest video's you talked about bombing!!! Hell yeah!!! im on that level now with over 500 nepenthes, ferns, bromeliads, drosera + the aroids!! it takes way to long to hand spray that shit!!! I just bought some bombs haven't used them yet but they are named Beethoven TR Miticide, Pyrethrum TR Fogger and Pylon Insecticide! HAVE you ever had experience with these? what do you use? and have you ever used them on anything other than aroids? Has anyone ever bug bombed ferns / nepenthes / bromeliads / heliamphora / drosera / tradscantia / calathea / succulents / orcids / hoya's and had sucess without harming there plants!!!?
