My lil Blue oil fern has a snake tongue frond as well. Please consider making a repotting video when you get around to it. There is not much information on the care and propagation of these insanely slow-growing plants!

Whoops, me again. I should wait until the end before commenting. I do have a bunch of begonias, but don't consider myself an expert. So here's the deal. It's a cane begonia. You can let them grow indefinitely, but eventually they begin to fall apart. You can cut them back hard, they root readily. After a few years they start to get lousy looking, so I just start a new one from cuttings. I would probably leave that begonia alone for now if you love the look. I'm afraid repotting will damage that big stem. The other alternative is to cut off that stem and repot the plant plus the cutting . I grow my begonias in soil and let them dry out slightly between waterings. I have kept cuttings in water for a really long time, but that has it's limits. I believe the small roots you have are a result of being continuously wet. As I'm sure you knw, if you put it in soil, you have to keep it quite wet at first and taper off the water.

I’d stake / trellis those begonia, you may get even bigger leaves! That red one is incredible ❤

For the blue oil fern, where it splits at the end or forks, it's called bifurcation; the ends can become bifurcated 😊

The begonia definitely needs a support stick or trellis. A real pot with room for root growth would be nice too 😀🇨🇦

Can't remember the name of that begonia, but when I worked in a greenhouse where we grew them, ours got huge. The one you have is very small by comparison. It will get huge if you just keep doing what you're doing. Potting it up in a slightly bigger pot, like everything, fast draining medium they can easily be over watered, they like bright bright light, not too much direct sun. Propping it up on a stake is a good idea if you want to let it keep growing up. Or prune it back and stick the cuttings in the pot to root or a separate pot. Or water, they root easily enough. If you prune it back it will bush out more...

I reckon that veitchii of yours is actually a veitchii type. I have one from ecuagenera and my leaves come in a dark maroon colour and it stays pretty dark after fully expanding and fades over the course of two months, at which point the next new leaf is already unfurling 😊
@KuyaCraig3 ай бұрын
Without sounding too technical, the cane like begonias should be top cuttings. Just cut at the stem in between the leaves. Put those cuttings directly into a well draining soil and keep moist. They will root in a week or two. Also, if you like those pink begonias, you will more than likely enjoy the Breverimosa Exotica (Red Form), Pink Minx (not sure the scientific name) or the Maurice Amy.

Defiant stake it, it will take off even more if you do. Begonias have small delicate roots which might be why it doesn’t look like it has a lot of roots. You’ll grow to love begonias!

The reddish begonia is ridiculously gorgeous in color and size. I have to chuckle because in the past Kaylee was not a fan of begonias but a few have finally won her over. When it gets so big and tall, use sticks to support their stems to remain upright.

I have Twigs purchased at Amazon and use them in my big Begonia Maculata. I have 5 inside of a 7 inch pot to support their stems, which makes it nice and bushy! You can see my Begonia and what I am talking about in my Short I just posted today 07-26.

The bigger cane begonias I’ve seen the petioles grow thicker on their own to support the plant and really you just have to keep getting a bigger pot or cutting it back. If you put it in a bigger pot and feed her she’ll grow stronger 💪🏻

Hey Kaylee. Begonia are basically fuzzy flowering aroids as far as care. Cain begonias (as that one appears) tend to be more fussy than rhyzometous.

Cane begonia tend to have pretty small root systems relative to their foliage mass. Personally, I'd give the red one another 2-3 inches of media, and leave the variegated one in that pot. Amphioxus is actually a really easy species, and forms a nice little shrub over time.

In my experience, my cats have chewed Dracena, Pothos, and they chewed my Spathiphyllum. Those I don’t remember any real reactions. I would again, don’t take my word for it, and triple check on the peace lily. I can’t tell you that Aglaonema gave my Himalayan constant drooling for roughly 48 hrs. That freaked me out! So I have been reluctant to set out any of my larger aroids. Not to mention that like you, my little fur babies would be munching on the beautiful leaves and destroying them. Grrr lol

My “spaccy” is very like yours. I think it is based on the thinner varieties rather than the “Sensation”, which has a wider leaf structure. Mine is also losing its variegation over winter here in Australia. I’m sure it will come back with 5e warmer weather and more light. I have backed right off in the feeding this winter as it has been unusually cold here and I have lost a few plants by overfeeding. My beautiful large Boston fern lost all its fronds over three days and when I investigated the soil was sour and dank. Really sad. I am trying to rescue it but don’t hold out much hope.

That pink begonia resembles Begonia Beningo Pink. Check the spelling. There are cane begonias that can get up to 6 feet tall if you let them. I think they look a lot better if they are kept short and bushy.
