For the majority of these songs he let the crowd sing , he shows respect to fish and his personal story with Marillion , and brings his soothing vocals to the fore front at times . Thank you Steve for helping true Marillion fans still hear these songs , and the amazing material you contribute to the band , respect for standing alone to bring your own personality to the band we all love so much , thanks to you .

Damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. I think Steve Hogarth does a fantastic job here. He's a great singer and he's respectful enough to know these songs belong to Fish, the crowd, and a time gone by. He said as much during an interview. Misplaced Childhood is such an emotional album. Even Fish can't sing it properly anymore. Let it be.

I love it, a bunch of Hogarth v. Fish comments. I'm a prog fanatic from way back. Listened to Marillion in the Fish era, thought the musicians were great, but the lead singer was horrible, so I moved on. It's all a matter of taste. If you loved Fish, you stuck around. Folks like me who thought Fish's tone and delivery were a distraction from the fine music, and who left looking for greener pastures, neither start nor normally comment on Fish threads. Hogarth brought me into the fold. I think he is the greatest singer in all of pop music today, and the music of Marillion is now different and better than the material and performances from the Fish era. I agree with those below who have commented that Hogarth's voice does not really fit the Fish era songs, and I don't think his heart is really into the singing of them, as opposed to the incredible passion he brings to his own songs. He sings the old tunes out of respect for the fans who have been with the band since the Fish era. Stories of new band members refusing to play the tunes penned by their predecessors are legion in rock music. If you are a long-time Marillion fan, be grateful the band still plays the old songs that made you fall in love with them, and thank Hogarth for singing them. I wish I could see Fish through your eyes and hear him through your ears, but I can't. To each his own, and live and let live.

Yesquire0 I always enjoyed Fish more because his voice made Marillion to me the spirtual successor of Genesis (due to to Fish's voice sounding similar to Peter Gabriel's) in the 1980s when they were writing songs like "Illegal Alien" and "In Too Deep". I respect your opinion for not liking him, but I'm also happy you respect the opinions of fans like me that hold him in high regard.

the guy is a great singer and represents Marillion well but the good old Fish was a TREMENDOUS performer with an unusual voice. On what concerns me I rather prefer the songs from the Fish age and find myself unable to criticize any of those songs but I'm able to recognize some great songs like "the great escape"; "easter"; "no one can" as well... SO WHAT MATTERS IS THAT UNLIKELY SON MANY OTHER BANDS MARILLION ARE STILL HERE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS ... LONG LIVE MARILLION!!!
