Studio Seigasha was one of the top studios when it came to handling action back in Dragon Ball Z, thanks to animators like Naoki Tate and Masahiro Shimanuki. However, today let's take a look at another Seigasha veteran Kazuya Hisada!

Hey I’m not sure if you’ve covered a topic like this yet but you should totally look at some of the vintage promo art for dragon ball. Sadly a relatively unknown promo artist Jun’ya “Furujun” Furusawa passed away recently and some of his work has become iconic in the dragon ball fandom. It would be so cool if you did a video covering various promo art and maybe even try to figure out who did some of it. Some of these guys didn’t get enough credit IMO!

Really glad you covered this episode. It is one of my absolute favorites and you nailed the description as to why. The whole thing is portrayed very uniquely and the fight actually looks like it's on another level than anything else that's come before (unlike fights in the android of Buu sagas that tell us they are more powerful but actually look less impressive). The opening scene with Goku exploding off of one foot is super memorable and I love the slow-moving shot with the invisible fighters gradually destroying the environment as the camera pans to the right. This is how you communicate power and and a sense of awe and excitement to the viewer. Keep it up!

After watching Dragon Ball Kai in 2019 (way late compared to others :( ) and seeing the sequence of Goku and Frieza initial fight after Goku dashing towards him, I'm impressed by Hisada's input. It's a shame that the part with stills and black background was removed in order to fit to the original episode runtime of Kai, but I noticed one of the DB KZbinrs posting a clip of this shot from Z and I love it. Nice video as always! :)

Studio Seigasha is the animation team to pick if you want scenes of hyper speed choreography, intense impact clashes, destruction (smoke, debris, explosions). I remember being so wowed by the atomic bomb explosion in episode 87 when Frieza fired that ki blast Goku. The battle against Raditz is well choreographed and nicely animated and drawn pretty good even for an earlier Z episode. The Galick Kamehameha beam struggle is awesome. Piccolo dueling w/ 2nd form Frieza was spectacular. The Piccolo Light Grenade attack on Imperfect Cell was a nice scene. They really shine when it comes to action scenes. I wish they could've done the Cell and Gohan beam struggle episode.

An excellent draftsman and animator, but rarely, some of his drawings were strange. But today I don't know what I would give for animators of this genre ... apart from Takahashi and Shida, by now TOEI uses people taken from the street ... and Yamamuro now can't take it anymore...
@forgottenrelics1197
@forgottenrelics1197 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, his artwork was a little unrefined at times compared to others but it's typically fine. Although I Disagree about Toei lol, Toei has plenty of great animators such as Yuichi Karasawa, Futoshi Higashide, Ryo Onishi the list goes on. And there's plenty of Dragon Ball veterans that still work there like Hisada himself.
@MrAlwaystekken
@MrAlwaystekken 3 жыл бұрын
@@forgottenrelics1197 There will also be great animators, but there are no great animations xD the TV series is worthless and the movies are rarely decent ... Shintani, Tate, Onishi are horrifying ... I regret the old yamamuro, and then Satoo, and finally the immense Keisuke Masunaga TT^TT

@Speed4Runs
@Speed4Runs 3 жыл бұрын
This is what I feel like it's a good fight animation. It's like now they just focus on moving each cloth detail to make the whole animation look impressive, as long as fluidity etc., but here all that stuff is so negligible as I can feel how fast and powerful they were. It's another reason why I don't find the new Broly movie any impressive
@forgottenrelics1197
@forgottenrelics1197 3 жыл бұрын
This way of animating, wide spacing, and a focus on keyframes is more so to make up for the fact that's it's limited. Hisadas approach in movies and in his later work features much more animation naturally, likewise taking the completely opposite approach is totally fine and is still great animation! There's something interesting about both.
@Speed4Runs
@Speed4Runs 3 жыл бұрын
@@forgottenrelics1197 it would be interesting to have a mix of both tbh, like some parts with non-limited animations and some with this intensity... Sometimes the later stuff is so fast that it's hard to follow 😅
@forgottenrelics1197
@forgottenrelics1197 3 жыл бұрын
@@Speed4Runs Oh I totally get where you're coming from, overly fast battles can sometimes wow audiences while also doing the opposite at times in not giving enough time for the audience to soak in what's happened. @@forgottenrelics1197 Ohh I remember I watched a video of yours that analyzed this scene, I like how you in fact highlighted good things of both versions (btw yeah I preferred the old element of surprise in the double kick :p) ^^ also I'm new to this "area" and so this website is new to me, but I am surprised about its technical side, I love its working simplicity, thanks for the link c: Honestly, I'm epileptic and some scenes like the ones where the "dimension" broke to a new environment in the Broly movie made me feel sick, and yet, I've heard that many of the old scenes were "censured" due to the lighting. To be fair, these really enhanced the fight (like how Goku generates a light spark when he dashes in this video, before the terrain deformation), but they (to me) are much less harmful than those colorful fast scenes - I really don't get why the style changed so much - perhaps it's due to the absence of need to make up for the fluid animation as you said before? That could be it, but then, when animation is truly bad, why don't they use these effects? :/ Anyways I love your videos! One more thing, I love your voice :d
