Thank you so much . I have a large jar of natural dark honey that a friend of my sister canned for me last year, but I don't eat it . So when I recently came across some videos on the many benefits of dark, raw honey, I decided to try using it only to find the bottom half of the jar of honey had started solidifying into sugar . I tried microwaving some of it, poured it back into the jar and stirred it in to melt what had solidified, but to no avail . I definitely wasn't going to throw it away, but I didn't know how to restore it to it's original smooth consistency . I'll start on it later on today . Thanks for this tip !

Try using water below 115° Fahrenheit (45° celsius), otherwise the honey will lose most of its healthy enzymes (which have antibacterial properties). Lukewarm water will do the trick just as well as hot water, without destroying these enzymes.

I Have a 5 lb jar that I had in the fridge and it is totally crystallized so I was thinking of microwaving it, but the jar is too large so your method might be better! Now I need to find small honey bottles to move the liquid honey to! I like it on microwaved halves of sweet potatoes with cinnamon and butter

Unfortunately the jar will often take most of the heat into itself causing cracking or fracture. Ceramic and glass are especially vulnerable.. this method is a lot safer imo

Just to clarify, when you said jar, did you mean a glass jar? Glass jars can take the heat. Will this work for my honey in a plastic jar? I fear if I leave plastic in hot water for 20 mins that it will start to soften or melt the plastic container.

@daniellasalguero70332 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it can since it technically is just sugar. It's the same as a lollipop or regular granulated sugar. I'm pretty sure that you can decrystalize it. The only thing is that you can't use extremely high temperature because the honey loses its enzyme properties. And I don't think it changes flavor, maybe just texture
@boatman6865 Жыл бұрын
37 degrees C is the max temperature as any more will destroy the enzymes

Don't put them in the microwave, especially no plastic bottles. The honey will get hot enough to melt the plastic (and release who knows what kind of chemicals into the honey, from the plastic).

No, no, no. Most store-bought honey is now in government mandated "eco-friendly" plastic jars that will warp in boiling hot water so they never stand up straight again. You should cut the bottle open and scrape the honey into a glass jar for heating and storage afterwards.
