One of the best hikes in western NC - so underrated! But that means more solitude to enjoy. (I didn't do the Mt. Hardy part). Anyone who decides to hike this should be aware of confusing trail junctions, as it's a wilderness area and there are no blazes. Bring a compass, map or GPS so you don't get lost. Most of the Blue Ridge Parkway outside of Asheville in NC is still closed due to damage from Helene, and that includes the Rough Butt Bald overlook where the MST starts this hike. I'm thinking it may reopen by spring. I hope! I want to do this hike again soon.
