I did this exact method with a black piece of PVC and found my turbo housing was leaking. They put the wrong gasket in when it was rebuilt by the previous owner. I got everything from RiffRaff to rebuild it and added a bunch of extras. I love my 7.3 now.

I have been told that the pinch style connectors can adapt to heat while the hose clamps can get too tight and damage the nipples they’re attached to.

I out that the ebp sensor was leaking badly. Replaced it as well as the pig tail. Now I also know that the boot from the inter cooler to the turbo had a small tear on it. I slid it further down to avoid the small 1/2 inch tear. Probably leaking from there.
@KCTURBOS5 ай бұрын
Moving it up likely helped, but if there is a tear in your boot, then you should replace it to play it safe.

I made one of these for around $10-$15. I used a 3" rubber boot and a 3" pvc end cap, both found at your local hardware store. Then i just drilled a hole in the cap and screwed in a tire valve stem. And use a tire inflator with gauge to monitor pressure.

i thought there is NO way air can get past the piston rings because diesel rings a much tighter ring clearance because they really need super tight seal for igniting the diesel.....But my diesel did the same thing and was wondering OH NO i killed my rings some how.....glad to know its normal.
@KCTURBOS Жыл бұрын
Nah air can indeed get past the piston rings. Thats why a crank case ventilation is needed, to vent that excess gas.

So this detector is for a 4" inlet and we have a smaller size that fits a 2.75" inlet. If your turbo has either of those sizes, then it will work

How do I explain this to a mechanic, they don’t seem to understand this
@KCTURBOS Жыл бұрын
I honestly wish we had a good answer for you... We run into this problem almost every day! it seems like the longer someone has been a mechanic, the more stubborn they are to take suggestions. We had a truck come into our shop from a customer who took it to 3 different Mechanics, and all 3 told him its a bad turbo. We did a very simple boost leak test and there was a HUGE hole in his intercooler. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJa5gHWNpNijnsksi=YeFhx0fNCK0sPNPz

can i do this at the intake elbow
@KCTURBOS5 ай бұрын
Yes, it would work there. But if there is a leak where the boot meets the turbo inlet, its fine because the intake does not need to be air tight.

Do you have to remove/plug the red line to do a boost leak test?
@jamesb1988 Жыл бұрын
You can just plug the little red lines boot onto the end of your intercoolers pipes clamp bolt, it fits perfectly. As far as the green hose that plugs into black air filter pipe, just pop that out and cover the end with a piece of tape.

Um is it just me or the intake valves are not all sealed.
@Gonecheenin Жыл бұрын
That's what I was trying to figure out as well. Took me a minute to think it through. If the intake valve is open, the exhaust valve will keep the air in the cylinder. If the intake valve is closed, then it will keep the air out of the cylinder.

Smoke ... test with smoke .
@KCTURBOS2 жыл бұрын
In our experience, the most common leaks are only found under pressure. Most smoke tests are not pressurized. In order to accurately test for leaks, you have to apply "boost" equal to that your turbo will be putting out.
