The album on which this song appears (Hopes and Fears) was released 22 years ago in 2002, when you were 49. I was 14 at the time and the album helped me alot back then. We live in an incredible time - where songs from decades ago (certainly those older than this!) can reach new ears and make new changes in the world - and these are all at our fingertips to discover...

A couple of years ago a friend of mine I knew well back in my teens died suddenly. He was a father, and in fact his partner found out a week or so after he passed that she was pregnant. It's both tragic and beautiful at the same time. He seemed to be really settling into his life. He was a total rockstar, like a Yorkshire Jack Black, musically talented and charismatic. His folks chose this to play at his funeral and I hadn't cried for the duration, right until the chorus. It's a great song, and even if he wasn't a fan of Keane I'm sure he'd have approved. He knew a good song. Miss you Jake, thinking of you today.

This song came out when my son was diagnosed with autism and he always wondered why he was treated different at school with other pupils making fun off him, laughing at him, he felt alone and would hide in the toilets all the time not interacting with anyone. I dont blame the pupils for they didn't understand either and the were infants. But it did leave a unforgettable impression on his mind, he is a person without any physical disabilities, but an invisible disability. How many people grew up with it and were classed as trouble makers.

3:22 at this point, he gathered himself up just enough courage to give society one more chance, he walked out of the safety of the shadows he calls "home". Scared but hopeful, he looked them straight in the eye, but like how it was once before they shunned him back to the only place he felt safe. As the walls crumbled upon him, it was all too much, he ended it. The light beckons him with open arms, and at this moment, he is finally safe.
@AvalbusRagnell6 жыл бұрын

This is probably the only time I can actually comply with this declaration because, uh... ...THE LEAD VOCALS and their frequency. They're so calm with the way they sound that it's actually disconcerting to listen to, since Tom's shouting also sounds utterly manipulative.

I used to watch this video on the music channels on tv when i was about 6 years old. It was probably the first time in my life where music had an incredibly profound effect on me. The combination of the music and the video mesmerised and left me weeping as a child and my mother frequently recalls those moments to me to this day. Ever since then I have been fascinated by the sad beauty found in music and its ability to move me emotionally. Incredible song and video.

I see that a lot of people is saying their interpretations of the song, I think that is great that a song can have different interpretations but in words of rice-oxley bedshaped is about when you think you have been left behind by an old friend or a lover and about hoping that you'll be reunited one day

When I was like 5, my mum showed me this video and I used to be scared of the video since the clay models freaked me out , especially when the kids turn into the bats. 4 years on , I rediscovered this song , and I learnt how amazing this song is , the power and emotion used. I figured that all this time my mum was simply showing me a powerful song. I didn't know till now.

The dichotomy of his voice and word's with uplifting instruments is a lost art. Even those that got it, and were brilliant at articulating the empty lost bewilderment of modren life can't replicate it. There is a darkness in all of us, the greatest success you will have in life, is keeping it under lock and key.

my cousin went through a very dangerous phase in his life, he heavily addicted to pills and marijuana, he was mad and literally violent at times among other things. People in his family and town despised him he was left on his own. It was painful to see a bright young lad turning into an absolute nut. Today he seems like he is past his troubled state and is incredibly well off all his bad habits, this video reminded me of him and i almost cried the last time i saw this.
