Wow.... I am so glad I discovered your music this summer at the Hyde Park BST Festival... Playing it non stop at the moment and falling more and more in love with it. I love your voice, Tom and your way of playing the piano, Tim. Very unique! I was in front at the B-Stage and could really feel your energy, Tom. You seemed to take it all in, this love and energy from 70.000 people listening to your music and singing along, many deeply touched, I suppose (at least me and my mate). (And I didn't even know any of that stuff about your history and everything) And I love how open and honest you talk about your lifes and struggles, your friendship and the people we need in our lifes - this is much more interesting than just pretending everything is always wonderful (as I often see in social media - everything needs to be set in scene and just be perfect - but that is not what life is like). So thank you very much again, I am looking forward to discovering the rest of your records (next: the Christmas Album ;-)). And I sincerely hope you will come to Austria sometime - see you in Front Row then ;-))).

Congratulations to a great interview! This is anything but the usual superficial "we promote our new record" kind of interview. Honesty and a lot of courage to openly speak about a lot of dark times. Tom Chaplin revealing that the old keane had become a toxic and judgmental place. And a long talk of the four of them to avoid old times and simply enjoy. Cause & Effect is an amazing comeback of a band I feared had already made its way into the history books withour return. But it is one of their best albums yet.

Tom is incredibly talented and such a brilliant voice. I can't imagine what happens to an ego when you get so much attention like keane did, and it's easy to think it's just the singer who makes those things work. I think it's fair to say his solo stuff is not of the same quality, and that the band contributed in ways that weren't superficially obvious. The same happened to paramore recently (not a great solo album from the singer). Ultimately good artists are agents of truth and the past is what it is.

I'll start out by stating the obvious, this was a very tense interview, it made me watching it feel tense at least. I like the fact that Tim views making music with Tom(Keane) more important than any other side project he has(i.e. Mt. Desolation). I just cannot get on board with that. I mean, he(Tim) can co-write songs with someone he's met in recent years, but he cannot help out someone who was there with him at the very beginning of his journey as a musician. And maybe it's Tom, that needed to step out to do his own thing, I don't know...But I wouldn't blame him at all, since I saw an interview with Richard Hughes stating that if not for an accident, he would be part of Mt. Desolation, so Mt. Desolation(although a different music genre) would be Keane without Tom, that made me sad on Tom's behalf. I say that because the one thing that drew me to Keane in the first place was Tom's voice, and then Tim's songwriting. I do think these two are the soul of Keane, if the other two were to go, it wouldn't make much of a difference, although I would really like Richard to stay, he's a really nice chap, and he was there at the start of it. Tim said he was supportive of Tom, but I didn't get that feeling hearing him talk about Tom's solo project and not being able to name one song in his album certainly solidified that assumption, no wonder Tom said Tim was the one he was most nervous of showing his work to. I liked seeing how supportive Richard was of Tom's work, playing drums in one concert, I believe. Always tweeting stuff in support of Tom, I really liked how their friendship strengthened in Keane's break, at least it looks like that. I'm sorry for going completely OT there. I hope Tom gets to express himself creatively through Keane, so he doesn't have to go off on his own to do another project, but if he does, I'm so there, I loved his solo project. I would actually love to see Tom and Tim write songs together, that would be ideal, since Tim said he can do so with others... It made me sad hearing them talk about the hardships they faced since Keane went on hiatus, but I'm glad they were able to overcome them and make good music again together. One more thing, Tom you need to do something about that hair style of yours, it doesn't suit you at all.

I am very much in agreement with what you wrote. I also don't like Tom's hair

But maybe they still aren't fully happy with they way things ended within the band and how much of a toll being in a band took on them as people (Tom's addiction, Tim's marriage ending). I'm sure that things will work themselves out, and with the benefit of life experience, they won't let things go the same way they did before.
