4:11 .. It looks Fantastic!! .. Love the paint job! ,, It reminds me of the mid 1960's Super Sport cars from GM, before they were "Muscle Cars" .. just lean machines, that got the job done in spades!! :) Ace of Spades!! :)

This is the first of your videos that I have seen. They have popped up from time to time, but I have yet to have the opportunity to actually watch them. I am a regular viewer of Keith and Steve. To make a long post less so, I am impressed by the 4H and your attention to its restoration.

I am extremely impressed with your Model 4H. I'm a subscriber of Keith Rucker and as you may know he recently acquired a Model 3H. He also rebuilt many of the shafts and splines on his Cincinnati Boring machine, similar to what you had to do on the 4H. I'm going to watch for a K&T Model 4H for sale too. Thank you.

Fascinating review of the remedial work done on a great mill. We had some very new CNC machines and some very old machines that were taken care of and still held a tight tolerance. The work on the mill is a good investment, as long as you can get work for it, really nicely done. How many times have you hit your head on the overhanging tool spindle ? Good post, thank you 👍
@VanoverMachineAndRepair Жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. I haven’t hit my head yet, but I’m sure it will happen.

20:00 IDK!!!?? :) .. most people would have sourced a stock rubber "boot" of an off road shock absorber, to fit!! :) .. Great job! .. I've worked on brass and copper, plumbing fittings at great lengths .. I cannot imagine combining that with the accuracy needed for a milling machine part!! :)

When i was an apprentice back in the 60's here in England there were 2 mills in the apprentice school that were very similar to this one except they were Cincinnati's. They had the vertical heads making them very versatile and were my favourite mills to use. Was this design style common when they were first built ?

Just a suggestion, But i would make a half shaft instead of hanging that bar so far out. especially having long hair! there is also the very minute possibility that when spinning fast enough the centrifical force will cause it to bend and whip. I know it seems far fetched being such a large bar but i can already see the end oscillating in the video. Excellent restoration and beautiful machine!
@VanoverMachineAndRepair Жыл бұрын
Good suggestion bar was long for another project but yes ideally one of every size is ideal. In time
