I still maintain that this is the version that they should have released. I absolutely adore it in this Dm key. It just sounds so much more natural to Sting, and I also prefer the piccolo snare and picking mandolin as opposed to the keyboard. The original studio version in Am sounds kind of boring now. I love it.

Yeah, it is. Both Sting and Andy were actually sponsored by Hamer around the Zenyatta/ Ghost-period, but on tapes and pictures I have, it doesn't seem they were used much by them, except for promo-pictures and such. You can see Sting playing around with this bass on "The Police around the world"-video (Soundcheck: "Canary in a coalmine"-rif). It has a distinct "octaved" sound. Sting also had a four-stringed Hamer.

@Petar_Nikolov6 жыл бұрын
Never before heard that GREAT version! Maybe it is the previous version of the original take... As it is mentioned in Wikipedia: "...in fact, Sting wanted to record the song without Summers entirely. Having written the song on a synthesizer, he wanted for it to use synthesizer instead of guitar, and to play the synthesizer part himself. Summers thought the synthesizer part should be replaced by guitar, and after considerable argument, they compromised by recording the part on both instruments, with a mix such that the synthesizer drowned out much of Summers's guitar"

GREAT footage, thank you! SONG OF THE DAY Spirits in the Material World- 🎸By The Police. Released 40 years ago, in 1981- This was released as a single in 1981. This song reached No. 12 in 🇬🇧 the UK; and No. 11 in the 🇺🇸 USA! The song was written by Sting. It is also the opening track for 🎸 their 1981 album “Ghost in the Machine”. (I always did love the name of that album)! “Spirits In The Material World” Lyrics/🎶Poetry There is no political solution To our troubled evolution Have no faith in constitution There is no bloody revolution We are spirits in the material world Are spirits in the material world Are spirits in the material world Are spirits in the material world Our so called leaders speak With words they try to jail you They subjugate the meek But it's the rhetoric of failure We are spirits in the material world Are spirits in the material world Are spirits in the material world Are spirits in the material world Where does the answer lie? Living from day to day If it's something we can't buy There must be another way We are spirits in the material world Are spirits in the material world Are spirits in the material world... kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHmylqmOaamffc0 (Loving this Music Video Memory)! The fractures within the band are evident even in this video which was shot around the time Stingo had believed as chief songwriter it was now time to go it alone...look at Stewart, he barely looks at him during the complete video. I still believe they are the best musical talent of their era and it was a shame they split but it's nice to unearth different versions of their most successful tracks like this one.
