My rule would be that all boards and keycaps should support international layouts. All keycaps need to come with international kits in the base kits and all pcb and plates need to support multiple layouts (split left shift and iso enter at the minimum).

My universal rule would be keyboard manufacturers especially for GB board should have atleast 2 years warranty for their PCBs and this should be in-stock from them whenever you have to RMA it. After 2 years release the PCB Design file and source code. For me this helps reduce waste and prevents some limited run keyboards being paper weight in the future.

Touch typing gang! When I started in this hobby I gamertyped - WASDEFG cluster was very fast with multiple fingers from years of fps games but my right hand was only using my index finger. When I got my first custom GB board, I forced myself to touch type everything and haven't looked back since.

If I were in charge I would say that everyone has to try a non-MX switch at least once. Too many people get lost in the sauce of the tiny differences in MX switches when there are so many other kinds of great switches out there. Alps, buckling spring, Topre, SMK, Space Invaders, NEC oval switches, and Futaba MA all offer something different from the Cherry MX experience.

dayum, bro got roasted during the thought provoking question portion for upside down spacebar (also YES for upside down spacebars!). I think it's more common for people to be typing without a wrist rest and it's unfeasible to be using a keyboard for hours on end fully hovering, so what you end up doing is a slight hover where your wrist/initial part of the forearms is resting on the surface and your palms are hovering when you type, and an upside down spacebar is just *chef's kiss* when you're typing this way.
@KyrosX273 ай бұрын
Fully agree with you on learning how to touch type. I feel like any sort of regular usage of keyboards would let you be somewhat proficient with touch typing. like, you don't even have to learn how to type a proper method, just learn how to type your way, by touch.
@TheManicGeek3 ай бұрын
Industry policy: get your shit together with QC standards when it comes to stabilized keycaps. After all this time, there's GOT to be a better way to prevent cap warping to the capacity I still see in contemporary keycap sets. +/- 1 mm or so, okay, that's typically not the end of the world as long as it's a uniform deformity... but some of the shit I still see even on GMK keycap sets is inexcusable at any price point. The burden of correcting warped spacebars, shift, and Enter keys shouldn't fall to the consumer, not even once.
@shinkenger22343 ай бұрын
I'm getting there with touch typing. I always get to the point where I make a mistake, either by my heavy hands slipping or I second guess my finger placement, and then I have to look down at my board so I can finish what I was typing.

I think a 50-year-old would be the most likely person to know how to touch type. I’m 51 and got to take a typing class for a semester in high school on a typewriter. Jobs would often require a minimum typing speed. The Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing software came out in 1987 and remained popular well through the 90s.

Learning to touch type and practicing not bottom out while being in an optimal ergonomic position will increase speed and reduce strain at the same time. I totally agree with your policy choice, it'd be mine too...no point in having a sports car if you don't know how to drive it safely at the limit.

Policy: if you post a group buy, you have to disclose a breakdown of the costs. Not pre order nor in stock. For group buy since you're basically helping to fund a project, you should know exactly where your money goes.

2nd question - legitimate retailers shouldn't be allowed to run group-buys and build profit into the prices. Group buys should be for groups of consumers coordinating and ordering together. Retailers should design a product and sell it themselves

Poop question: keycaps, I think they would align in the guts and even a 7u spacebar could be incapsulated on a turd; Provoking question: provoking answer: all Cherry style switches are banned, you have to design new switches instead of color combinations. I think I will get some hate, but having tried even just 3 non Cherry based families all Cherry style kinda feels the same (to be more precise all linears, all small bump tactiles, big bump tactiles, click jacket, and click bars, separated)
@TaehaTypes3 ай бұрын
I don’t think Cherry switch styles should be banned, but I do wish we had more design experimentation. In the real world though I understand why this isn’t the case as it would be very expensive to constantly be playing around with different designs/toolings
@karellen003 ай бұрын
@@TaehaTypes I totally agree, ban is a strong word, but it works as a provocation. It's just that in the last few years I felt there has been a lack of innovation but an explosion of different color combination but otherwise same switch (I can't keep up anymore!). It also feels that everything now has to be Cherry, otherwise you won't be able to find keycaps or keyboards, it's a self reinforcing stuff so nothing else can compete (even Alps compatibility slowly went away). It feels sad that now mechanical keyboards are common, but to find something different for the most part you have to go for vintage keyboards...
