i have met 80 million people in the "record business" or the "music business" in my life...a lot of cool folks, a lot of snakes, a lot of in-betweens...Robert Keeley is truly one of the nicest, most genuine people i have ever met. You should know that, aside from getting some really cool gear, any money you spend on his stuff is going to a REALLY good guy. That goes a long way with me.

When Uncle Larry, the biggest authority on the Nobels ODR-1, approves, then it's got to be amazing. Congratulations on the release. Can't wait to get one.
@greyklopstock7155 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I just saw the releases for this, and it made me think "gah, well I wanna see what Tom thinks about this. Cause he knows everything there is to know in terms of nobels odr-1 tone, and he fuckin hates tube screamers. So if he likes it, it's gotta be good." And Robert Keeley just said "hold my beer, we already got him" I know Uncle Larry has highly scrutinized the nobels reissues. It's my favorite overdrive ever, and while i too generally can't stand the ts sound, being able to play around with it sounds like fun. And who knows, there might be some magic in giving the ts a spectrum tone control. I'm wondering if turning it up so the bass and treble get shelving boosts might actually help tame the mid hump
@climbtibet Жыл бұрын
I actually ordered one just now and gonna give it an honest try. I don’t use tube screamers but, if you crank your amp up ah, preferably two amps: one on 10 the other 11 - they sound amazing and that’s the thing. Stage volumes like that are mostly non existent these days. Only problem is learning sign language after you have damaged your hearing 😆

It was great. But I thought Tom was going fall out trying tube screamer

Hi, I don´t know Mr. Keeley in person but watched a bunch off vids like this, how he interacts with the players, the passion he puts when he explain the technical aspects off them, he comes across a passionate guy, generous and most important HUMBLE guy who really knows his stuff, I bought some off his pedals, no one let me down. Just to se his name in a pedal be a modification or an original just catch my attention. He is the creator off the boutique pedal business without the boutique price tag on them. That sets him asside other boutique pedal builders, don´t want to name builders, wee already know who they are.

@@RobertKeeleyTV 7:21 onwards - the comparison of the ODR1 to your pedal - listening through monitors - they're quite similar, the Keeley pedal sounds the same except there are hi mid and presence frequencies that drop away - to my ear it sounds literally like the same amp before and after its been covered with something - just honest feedback dude. Dont tell me you dont hear the difference in that comparison? In the highs / high mids? might be a different taper in the spectrum pot?

If it’s the TPS episode I’m thinking of, they’re not really comparing the ODR-1 and TS as if they’re similar. They throw it up against a BD-2 also just to see the differences between popular ODs. I’m pretty sure they even address the fact that they’re both green but don’t sound the same. Don’t throw them under the bus!
@RobertKeeleyTV Жыл бұрын
that really never was my intention. I mixed a possible misconpception about the color of a pedal with them doing it on a specific show on that topic from a novice perspective of green is scream mentality. Great vid and a great pedal! Playing mine right now. It does seem it was dialled in better in the other vids (ODR-1). I can make it almost identical to the original, but the thing that impresses me most of all is the feel. It has that slight sag when you dig in that some of the other modern versions don’t.

The ts really does sound better than the original 😂. I'm with uncle larry. Ive tried at least 4 TS variants over the years thinking i just didnt understand the pedal. The thing about the Nobels is that there is a layer of distortion below the one most folks hear. If you pick carefully, you can hear when you get past the lower level and are not quite to the upper level. This is the Nobels sweet spot with max headroom and still the useful low lever distortion. Most folks hit the strings to hard to notice this.
