After hearing you on Art of Manliness I have been consuming any and all info about hybrid athletes that I can. I hope to hit a 6 plate deadlift and a decent turn for a half marathon this summer. Thank you for the guidance and clear information!

You say to eat back 90% of calories burned from cardio, which I think is accurate. But do you reckon this is enough to build muscle? In your opinion, for someone starting out running 15k every day and going gym to build muscle, that eating back 90% of cardio calories is sufficient to building optimal muscle? Or maybe eating back 100% would be a better idea as that way, some days might be a surplus due to the estimated calories burned not being 100% accurate? Basically, building muscle whilst endurance training, is it better to eat at maintenance or slight surplus? THANKS!!!!

Hey Fergus! How do you determine when you're in a maintenence, muscle building or deficit phase?

When you mention 10000 steps for the baseline calories, do you mean it on top of steps accumulated during running workouts? I love your videos, they are infromative and entertaining at the same time. You are an inspiration, keep it up!

Yes - separate to step count from focused cardio work.

Great video! When you say you eat back 90% of cardio, do you do this within a particular period of time after the activity or just throughout the day?
@ferguscrawley952 жыл бұрын
Generally just throughout the day!

Love your KZbin videos and your podcast on the art of manliness I thought was so amazing. Quick question I had: I run about 15k every day, training for marathon, and you say in your videos you eat back 85% of the calories, which I think is pretty good number. But is this for maintenance? As surely eating back 95 or just 100% of the calories burned from aerobic activity makes more sense to not lose any weight/fat/muscle? Thanks!

Superb as always Fergus. Yourself, Nick Bare, Alex Viada and Ross Edgley are true pioneers in the hybrid space. I would also throw Kris Gethin in there too, so glad I watched the Man of Iron series and opened the KZbin algorithm to you guys. In answering the question about preworkout I think you nail one of critical pillars in regards to Hybrid training which is the need for razor focus in sessions given the inevitable elimination of “junk” volume/mileage. Any further plans for a book on hybrid training? Hope you enjoyed the game last Saturday, my wife (and her family) are from the midlands and I’m from Glasgow. We live in Midwest America these days and were exchanging some healthy banter during the game 😂👍.

I noticed in previous videos as well as this one that you tend to consume either a small amount of carbs or strength train in a fasted state. Are you concerned about any additional potential for muscle breakdown due to not eating a bolus of protein beforehand?
